Chapter Notes
Greetings Patriots, Ladies, and Friends:
Our celebration of the 284th birthday of Gen. George Washington was lots of fun! I really enjoyed meeting and spending time
with everyone who attended and meeting the members of your
families, you are all truly blessed! The tasty treats were over
the top this year, BIG thank you to all who contributed to it. It
was a real treat to experience the evening among friends, and
Gen. Washington & CDR Garrett see how friendly and relaxed everyone was around one another.
I want to thank Pastor Mark Collins of Yorktown Baptist Church. His portrayal of Gen.
George Washington was incredible to see and hear. From the prayer, to his story depiction, to the presentation of a hand stitched “Badge of Military Merit” that he presented to
the Chapter, and his interaction with everyone there. I know I will treasure the pictures of
he and I together, I know you all will too! How about our Guest Speaker, Col. Hope
Rampy! WOW….how great was she and so inspiring and full of energy! It was an honor
to have her there! Lecia Duke and her amazing chocolate creations….there was a line just
to get a taste of what she made for us. Julia Magness…fantastic live music she and her
band performed for us, and how about that “special” happy birthday she sang to Gen.
Washington….HOT HOT HOT! All this happening at one of the most beautiful ballrooms
in Austin at The Austin Club it’s no wonder why we have become the envy of all MOPH
Chapter’s across Texas and the Country.
Congratulations to our MOPH Patriot of the Year Ted Acheson, and our LAMOPH Lady
of the Year Julie Brown! Very well deserved awards for two hard working folks doing
great things for all of us.
As always Yours in Patriotism,
SCOTT GARRETT, Commander
Commander Scott Garrett and
his wife, LAMOPH President,
Carrie Garrett..
Thank you for such a wonderful evening.

Happy Spring Ladies,
Let me begin by saying that it was such a pleasure to
see everyone who could attend the annual George
Washington’s Birthday Dinner. General George
Washington himself attended and our guest speaker,
Colonel Hope Rampy, was an absolute inspiration.
I hope everyone had a wonderful time!
Not only did we have wonderful food & entertainment at the Dinner, but we also had the pleasure of introducing Julie Brown
as the 2015-2016 LAMOPH Lady of the Year. Not only is she always an
invaluable help, but her beautiful smile and spirit make each of our events
that much brighter. Congratulations Julie! Thanks again for all you do.
Don’t forget, election time is around the corner. If you are interested in
serving, or know someone who is, please let us know.
Keep an eye on the calendar as well. We invite everyone to attend the
meetings in March & April. We’ll be selling raffle tickets for the beautiful
Purple Heart afghan knitted by Regina Martinez. Don’t miss your chance to
take home this lovely piece.
Our spring picnic and officer installation is coming up in May as well. Rose
Weeden and her family have graciously offered to host the celebration. We
always have a beautiful time at the Weedens’, so I hope to see many of you
there.
In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful spring and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Yours in Patriotism,
CARRIE GARRETT, President

ADJUTANTS CALL
Adjutant Milt Carr
showing Gen Washington
our Charter
George Washington’s Birthday Dinner Party: On February 26th in the
Austin Club, was by far the best attended ever, and it more than lived up to its
advance billing, as attested in other reports and photos elsewhere in this issue. Not otherwise mentioned however, one attractive feature of the evening
was a continuous running of our Power
Point pictorial file of the chapter’s membership. The slide show takes 45 minutes to cycle through 182 slides,
that’s how many of the chapter’s patriots for which we have at least one photo. Since the chapter has about
550 members, that means over 365 of you patriots out there have been left out of the slide show and we want
to add you to it. If you will mail one or more photos (preferably of you in some type of uniform during the
war in which you were wounded) to me, Adjutant, Milt Carr, 5701 Painted Valley Dr, Austin, TX 78759, I
will be happy to scan them for the Power Point file and promptly return your originals to you. If you have
photos in digital format, I will be happy to receive those, preferably as .jpg files, in e-mail attachments to a
message to [email protected]. I’m looking forward to adding your photo to the chapter’s file.
Coming Next Month—Chapter Annual Elections: The April meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday,
April 23rd at the “Hero’s Night Out” location, 1150 S Bell Blvd, in Cedar Park; and the election of chapter
officers will be part of the meeting’s agenda. This announcement is to conform with the By-Laws (Article
IV, Sec. 3, par a) requiring that “Election of chapter officers shall be held in April…and notice of such election must be mailed to all active members in good standing at least two weeks prior to said meeting.” Oftentimes, PATRIOT BULLETIN mailings do not attempt to meet that two week in advance requirement, so to
be safe we are making that official notice a month ahead of time. That’s not the real reason though. That was
just an introduction to get you thinking about the chapter’s annual call for volunteers. If you are willing to
serve, now is the time to say so. Recently joined new members especially, please know you are needed and
welcome to join the team. Please consider this your invitation to serve. Contact any current chapter officer
(see phone listing) if you are ready and willing to take on the responsibility of chapter office.
About MOPH’s ROTC Leadership Awards: The time for this year’s awards ceremonies is fast approaching and Chapter 1919’s ROTC Awards Chairman, Fred Lord, has some words inviting your participation
elsewhere in this issue. MOPH has 26 years of history with this. A MOPH Leadership Medal for ROTC and
Junior ROTC units was officially authorized by the Department of Defense in 1990. That next year, in 1991
MOPH awarded the first 60 medals to nine ROTC and 51 Junior ROTC programs, and the numbers have
grown rapidly ever since. Now in 2016, for this chapter alone (among approx. 500 chapters nationwide),
Fred has on his contact list eight University level ROTC units and 24 Junior ROTC units in area High
Schools.
2016 Department of Texas Convention Announcement: The Department Convention is now set for June
6-11, 2016, to be held in the “Omni Houston Hotel at Westside,” 13210 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079,
hosted by Katy Chapter 723. The convention is not just for officers, anyone among the MOPH and LAMOPH (ladies auxiliary meets separately) membership is welcome and encouraged participate. There is no
better way to learn about our organization and meet the patriots and ladies representing the other 30 chapters
in Texas. If this is something you would be interested in (Registration is $15) contact your Adjutant for a
registration form.

Dear Patriots;
It is fast approaching spring and it will be time for your
1919 chapter MOPH to present our Junior and Senior
ROTC awards. If you have not had the privilege to present these awards to Americas finest young men and
women then you have really missed something. We present awards to 20 HIGH Schools and 3 Universities.
Your chapter will need volunteers to present these awards
Trustee Fred Lord with the General Washington
when the time comes. Later during the spring when the schools develop their award night schedule I will notify every one of the date and time of the presentation. The schools will already have
the award medal and certificates. Also, if you have graduated from one of these schools then
consider going Back to present the award. That should be fun, not only for you but for the cadet.
Also if you notice that a high school has just established a new Junior ROTC program and they
are not on the list then please let me know so I can add them to the list. Any questions please
contact
Fred Lord at 512-456-7141 or email [email protected]
A BIG THANK YOU to the
Sons of the Revolution
Who presented the Colors. Always a pleasure to
have them.

WAY I KNOW NO OTHER MEN. I HAVE NEVER GIVEN ANYONE SUCH TRUST. THEY WERE
WILLING TO GUARD SOMETHING MORE PRECIOUS THAN MY LIFE. THEY WOULD HAVE CARRIED MY REPUTATION, THE MEMORY OF ME. IT WAS PART OF THE BARGAIN WE ALL MADE,
THE REASON WE WERE SO WILLING TO DIE FOR ONE ANOTHER.
I CANNOT SAY WHERE WE ARE HEADED. OURS ARE NOT PERFECT FRIENDSHIPS; THOSE ARE
THE PROVINCE OF LEGEND AND MYTH. A FEW OF MY COMRADE’S DRIFT FAR FROM ME
NOW, SENDING BACK ONLY OCCASIONAL WORD. I KNOW THAT ONE DAY EVEN THESE
COULD FALL TO SILENCE. SOME OF THE MEN WILL STAY CLOSE, A COUPLE, PERHAPS, ALWAYS AT HAND.
AS LONG AS I HAVE MEMORY, I WILL THINK OF THEM ALL, EVERY DAY. I AM SURE THAT
WHEN I LEAVE THIS WORLD, MY LAST THOUGHT WILL BE OF MY FAMILY AND MY COMRADES…SUCH GOOD MEN.”
