TITHE REPORT IN APPRECIATION TO:
April 15th, 2013.
Dear Michael McDonald and partners of
On behalf of HFH Mexico, I would like to thank you very much for the total grant of
$100,000.00 given to this organization in the CY2012.
As you know, $5,000.00 of that generous ammount were used to support some families
that were looking for a very specific solution in oder to improve their health: a Patsari Stove.
Now, we are happy to share with you testimonies and photos of 19 families that are
enjoying a new life because they own a Habitat house.
I am sure many faces are familiar, this is because some of these families were benefited
with a Patsari Stove.
We encourage you to keep supporting our mission. We have many families that are waiting
for a better future!.
Thank you very much!.

“Mexcala, Tlapa de Comonfort, Guerrero.
My name is Leopoldina Bolaños Avelino and for many years I lived in a humble house made of wood
reeds and other materials. My kids were in danger because we experimented difficult situations every
time we had rain or winds: our belongings went dirty or wet, even my cornfield because we did not
have resources to build a decent roof or at least good walls. Have good walls and a good roof was like
a dream; one day Mr. Fidel Garcia leader of the Mexcala Community talked to 15 families because he
knew about the Habitat for Humanity program and the opportunity to own a house. We all approved
and this was the solution for all of us. I began to support my fellows, went to meetings and we had the
joy to meet Elvira Flores Barriga, we thank her because we could not own a house without her
support. As I told her, to build a house made of walls was just a dream and now that I have a Habitat
house our life has completely changed.
I am full of joy because we also have a Patsari Stove and I am able to feed my kids properly.
We will always grateful to Habitat for Humanity because I have a healthier and better life.
Sincerely,
Leopoldina Bolaños Avelino.

“My name is Felipa Cuéllar Mendoza. I was living in a very difficult situation because my house
was made of wood reeds. My family was suffering a lot every rainy season, during hurricane´s times
and we also had insects like scorpions.
We had this opportunity because our leader Fidel García Basurto told us about a solution: to own a house
just if we go to workshops and join a housing program. One day we met Elvira Flores Barriga and she told
us about how to promote confidence between the families willing to work in self-construction methodology.
I went to different meetings and workshops and I own now a Habitat house. My life has changed because I
have a good house with two bedrooms and made of good material.
I also have a Patsari Stove , a bathroom and better doors and windows. My kids are secure and we do
not worry about the weather conditions.
We are very grateful to Habitat. I have a healthy home and a decent house.

“Mexcala, Tlapa, Guerrero.
This is my place, where I live. I am Alberto García Galeana and we used to live in a very simple and
fragile house made of wood reeds and a roof made of black cardboard sheets. Here rains a lot, all our
belongings are wet every time. We were really worried, with no solution or anything to do and solve
this situation. One day Fidel Garcia Basurto came and 15 families had a meeting in order to met
Elvira Flores Barriga; she suggested the options to own a decent and healthy house, she also
explained how to work with no discrimination. I thank Habitat for changing my life.
I have 4 different spaces with 2 rooms and a kitchen with my Patsari Stove.
We are really happy because we have a decent space where to rest. We are not scared to lose our
house or belongings.
We live very happy. Thank you habitat for Humanity, I own a healthy and decent house.

Habitat for Humanity:
I´ve formed my family for 33 years and always wanted to build an adequate house for my family but
I in all those years I could not build it because I had a lack of resources. I am just a farmer and the
money I earn is to feed my family. One day I heard about a housing program that gives non profit
credits and they were looking for families to help. I asked information, attended all the meetings and
I gave all the necessary papers and requirements to join the group.
Since then, I have been experimented joy and happiness because I own an adequate and decent
house. This program also supported us with a Patsari Stove.
We thank Habitat for taking care of my family´s health.
Thank you, “Habitat for Humanity”.

“Mexcala, Tlapa de Comonfort, Guerrero.
I am Carmen Solano Maldonado. My house was very humble made of wood reeds and cardboard
sheets, we did not have rooms and it was terrible to sleep or rest there because everything was
cold, humid and even worse if we had rains. My little kids were always crying and sick, we did not
have enough space for everyone, we were in a situation of economic crisis.
Fidel García Basurto, our communitarian leader told us about the opportunity to own a house
through the Habitat methodology and in the end possess healthy houses.
We met the Habitat coordinator, she presented different options to solve our problems. I own a
home where my kids can grow in a safe manner, always with respect and honesty.
I thank Habitat, I really love my house; we have bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen with a Patsari
Stove.
We are very happy!
Thanks Habitat for Humanity.

I want to thank all your attentions. Please receive sincere greetings from the León García Family.
We are grateful to you for make our dream come true: build a real house made of cement and bricks. This is
a confortable house.
My little village is humble and we do not have our own resources to build a house like this. We walk between 2
to 3 hours to go for work. We lived in a house made of cardboard and wood and no flooring.
We heard about Habitat and we decided to ask for information and help. It was not easy but we thak God for
giving us this blessing. We achieved the goal and we are grateful to Habitat.
We really thank you for making my dream come true. We are very happy.
Thank you Habitat for Humanity!

I want to thank you very much for giving us a house . This was my dream but we did not have conditions
and resources to build one. For this reason when Habitat came to our community I asked for help and
now, I am a homeowner. This program is a blessing and my daughters are grateful to all of you.
We have a better home. Thanks!
Thanks Habitat for Humanity,

The García Basurto family is one of the founding families of the
Mexcala Community.
Mr. Francisco García (Francisca´s husband) died while the house
was under construction. He was 57 years old.
He was very excited about the idea of owning a house and he
asked to Habitat to build just two bedrooms in order to have a
bigger space in the living and dinning area for his grandkids and
other visits. They had 7 kids but just 2 of them ( Florinda and
Urbelina) live with Francisca .

“Habitat for Humanity :
Before joining the Habitat program, my dream was building a house for our children, but even though
my husband tried, we could not build a house because what he earns, is just enough to eat, clothing
and footwear for our kids.
Everything changed when we learned many things from Habitat. We began attending meetings and
finally decided to join the program because for us it was a great opportunity to make our dream come
true. The program gave us support and was an opportunity that we could not miss and decided to
request for a non profit credit.
We formed a group in the community and little by little we started to build houses. We were really happy
to see that this was a reality. When we finished all the houses, we made a party and every member
was very happy and excited because our dreams made come true.
I do not have words to express my gratitude. I thank to Elvira, Habitat, the Federal Government and all
of you. Without your help we could not build a house like this.
Thank you Habitat!

“ Habitat for Humanity:
When I formed my family four years ago, only had a small wooden house and thought save to start
building rooms, one by one. One day my husband found a program that gives non profit credit for
housing. We went to the Habitat office and asked for information and Elvira Flores Barriga told us
about the mission and methodology. We decided to ask for support, requirements, etc. Give all
documents took a while and during that time we had doubts, we thought that Habitat was a lie, like
many programs but Habitat really changes lives and we live very comfortably.
We are happy to own a house like this and a Patsari Stove. This is the healthiest option for our
family.
Thank you Habitat for Humanity for giving us health, safety, protection..
We will be always grateful.
Sincerely,
Francisca García León”.
Francisca´s husband, Fidel is the leader of the Mexcala community.
Fidel knew the work of Habitat because some friends were building their house in another
community and they asked his help in some activities.
This young couple decided to talk to the people and decided to form a group interested on get a
Habitat house.
Fidel spoke clearly and asked for responsible, committed and hard worker families. Only a few
remained because they did not believe in Habitat and once they began the construction´s
process of the houses, Fidel told to the future homeowners that they will be able to paint the front
of their houses using Nopal Cactus Paint.
Now that the houses are built, many of those families that did not trust in Habitat are looking the
way to form a new group.
Fidel and his wife are very happy for owning a home and make their dream come true. They will
continue supporting the Habitat´s mission. It´s a way to show gratitude for all this organization has
done for his family and the community.

“When we got married we did not have a house and used to live with my husband´s family. I stopped
working when I knew I was pregnant, and finally we decided to rent a room in order to have our own
space.
We saved and bought a piece of land but we knew that building a house it was going to take so much
time, money and effort. My husband had the idea to look for the American dream and get more
resources but one day one person told us about a housing program, he said that a friend of us named
Ricardo was building a Habitat house. We look for him, asked how he get support and finally he took
us to the Habitat office, met Elvira and she gave us a very detailed explanation, we decided to ask for
a non profit credit but at that time we were not approved because the homeowners of Huamuxtitlan
community were not paying the mortgage so future homeowners of this community should wait for a
while.
We waited a year until we were officially members of Habitat. We were really happy when the
construction started and when we finished or house, was a total relief because all our worries were
gone.
I am very happy to see that my little Tonatzin is happy living here, in a decent and pretty house.
I will be always grateful to God an Habitat for giving us this house.
