Can-Am Maverick 1000R X rs Features and Benefits
101-hp (75 kW) Rotax 1000R V-Twin engine
The new 976cc, 101-hp (75 kW) (15kW – Euro 2 approved for EC models) Rotax 1000R
V-Twin engine is the most powerful side-by-side engine in the industry**. This liquidcooled, single-overhead-cam power plant features four valves per cylinder and is fed by
a 54mm Bosch‡ throttle body and two VDO Seimens® fuel injectors. The sophisticated
electronic fuel injection system automatically keeps the engine's performance at its peak,
regardless of temperature or altitude. Dual exhaust ensures that distinctive sound you'd
expect from a high-performance side-by-side vehicle. The end result is a highperformance side-by-side vehicle capable of producing the most power, acceleration and
best power-to-weight while at the same time maintaining excellent fuel efficiency.
High-flow Dynamics
When an engine breathes easier, it can produce more horsepower. So we optimised air
intake, combustion and exhaust flow to improve engine efficiency. The result is the 101hp (75 kW) (15kW – Euro 2 approved for EC models) Rotax 1000R. This was ac hieved
in conjunction with in creasing the flow volu me of the intake plenum and independent
intake runners that allow the tuning of each cylinder for optimal performance. A high-flow
head to optimise the combustion chamber, thanks to larger intake and exhaust valves
and an increased compression ratio (12.0:1), and high-flow dual exhaust all contribute to
the more-powerful and efficient engine.
Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC)
The electronic throttle-by-wire iTC sy stem offers a s mooth throttle delivery even if the
driver’s foot is bouncing due to the rough terrain. The iTC system — whic h features a
rider selectable twin-mode toggle switch for throttle control— can detect unwanted
bounces and then filter the input, resulting in more throttle accuracy, especially at low
speed. Drivers can choose between a progressive mode (standard) and a Sport mode,
which offers linear throttle control. This system also reduces the number of moving parts
in the vehicle; requires no mainten ance; has no cables to adjust, lubricate, or repl ace;
and the system has an increased life span.
Dual Exhaust
The dual exhaust uses tuned manifold lengths and resonator chamber to create more
flow, optimising performance and sou nd. Industry first catalytic converter and closedloop system ensure optimal combustion from an emission standpoint, meeting new EPA/
CARB standards for 2014 models.
3
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with Zylon-reinforced belt
The updated CVT system showcases a n ew belt reinforced with Z ylon, a material with
1.6 time higher tensile strength and with increased belt rigidity in compression compared
to a regular belt, keeping it cooler. A dual CVT exhaust design also ensures cooler belt
temperatures, even in extreme conditions. A redesigned drive pulley w ith increased
diameter will provide ex tra durability. Standard with engin e braking to help slo w you
when going downhill.
37.8 L fuel tank
The Maverick side-by-side has the largest f uel tank of sport side-by-side at 38 lit ers.
That is 14 % more than its nearest competitor in the segment, providing extended range
while exploring the outdoors.
Double A-arm front suspension
The double A-arm front suspension front suspension features 14 in. (356 mm) of travel
for a capable and precise ride.
Torsional Trailing A-Arms (TTA) independent rear suspension
The innovative TTA rear suspension on the Maverick 1000R side-by-side is engineered
to be co mpact, lightweight, efficient and deliver the performance sport enthusiasts
demand. This is a compact version of a five-link suspension for no b ump steer and the
lowest scrub for optimised bump absorption and tyre-to-ground contact. It also has less
rear unsprung weight than other sport side-by-side. The system features a double A-arm
setup where each A-arm ac ts as two links a nd uses a toe-control link as the fifth link.
The result is a more condensed and lighter package with less pivot points and spherical
ball joints making it more durable b ecause it re duces free play and wear, and is more
resistant to undercarriage damage. Engineers designed the TTA to allow for optimal
geometric weight transfer to enhance the tyre-to-ground contact, while at the same time
increasing its bump absorption, traction and, ultimately, overall control of the
suspension. Offers 14 in. (356mm) of travel.
FOX‡ Podium X Performance 2.5 piggyback shocks
Developed in collaboration with FOX, the high-grade FOX 2.5 Podium Performance
shocks make their first appearance on a factory-built side-by-side vehicle. The rebuildable shocks sit a t all four corners and are fully adjustable for Dual-Speed
Compression and rebound. The 2.5 Podium shocks offer a high-volume 6-inch (15 cm)
piggyback oil reservoir and specially formulated oil for improved flow and heat
dissipation. Proven technologies such as upper and lowe r spherical bearing mounts,
velocity-sensitive damping c ontrol and a h igh-flow piston, optimise performance in
varying terrain. They are des igned to be extremely durable with a h ard-anodised 2.5inch (6.35 cm) alu minium body, forged aluminium piggyback body cap and a 5/ 8-inch
(1.5 cm) hard chrome-plated, heat-treated shaft. To maintain s upreme control, the FOX
shocks’ extension velocity after compression can be f ine-tuned to optimise vehicle
control.
Mid-engine layout
The Rotax power plant sits low and close to the centre of the wheelbase, which not only
improves the Maverick side-by-side’s weight distribution a nd mass centralisation, but
also means it’s quicker to reac t to direction changes. The mid-engine configuration
results in a low centre of gravity and, along w ith the rest of the chassis components,
4
improves handling while cornering. Add in a 84.3-inch (214 cm) wheelbase and 64-inch
(162,5 cm) width, and the result is a n imble Maverick that is as predictable and
confidence inspiring as it is powerful and dynamic.
High frame rigidity
The Maverick 1000R side-by-side is o utfitted with a ne w frame that’s offers more
engineered rigidity compared to its closest competition. With more tors ional rigidity, a
frame can improve handling by allowing the vehicle’s suspension to work p roperly and
with increased precision.
13-inch (33 cm) of ground clearance
The Maverick has 13 inches (33 cm) of total ground clearance for optimum performance
in challenging terrain. The suspension and frame were engineered to produce a vehicle
that can tackle rugged terrain in predictable fashion while also remaining precise in
aggressive cornering.
Front and rear dual 214-mm ventilated disc brakes
The four-wheel disc braking system on the Maverick 1000R side-by-side consists of front
214mm hydraulic disc brakes with twin-piston caliper and 214mm re ar hydraulic disc
with a single-piston caliper for great stopping power.
12-inch (30.5 cm) Aluminium Beadlock Wheels
12-inch (30.5 cm) aluminium centre-less, computer-optimised true beadlock wheels. This
mechanical fastener makes it nearly impos sible for the tyre to break its bead from the
wheel during heavy acceleration or cornering.
27-inch (60.6cm) Maxxis‡ Bighorn‡ 2.0 Tyres (EC approved)
The non-directional, six-ply Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 radial tyres (EC approved on EC models)
offer an extremely durable carcass, yet are lightweight in design to reduce unsprung
weight. This tyre provides a smooth ride, predictable feel over a variety of surfaces while
at the same time o ffering sturdy lugs and a capable tread pattern to le t you drive with
confidence.
Visco-Lok‡ Front Differential
Exclusive to BRP, Visco-Lok is a progressively and automatically locking front differential
system, once 4x4 mode is sele cted. The system intelligently transfers power from a
slipping front wheel to the opp osing wheel with traction. Visco-Lok has no butt ons to
push or levers to pull. Plus, there’s no wheel hop or driveline wind-up so the system is
totally transparent to the driver and extremely easy to steer. Visco-Lok gives progressive
lock-up with no rev or speed limiter.
Driver and passenger advanced ergonomics
The Can-Am Maverick 1000R side-by-side features a s pacious cockpit specifically
designed to cater to the needs of drivers of various sizes and do so with a fit-and-finish
that leads the indu stry. Design to provide easier ingre ss / egress , more cockpit space
and legroom, for optimal comfort when riding. Driver-focused ergonomics means
adjustable comfort, easy-to-reach controls, integrated safety features and unmatc hed
versatility. A side-by-side also needs to create a similar experience for the passenger by
creating a space that makes them feel one with the vehicle.
Removable free-standing seats
5
