From the Principal’s Desk
The mission of Saint Andrew
School is to proclaim the Good
News of Jesus Christ in order
to empower students to live the
message of the Gospel, to foster a community of practiced
faith and to promote a
generous spirit that brings
forth service to others. The
faculty and staff work together
to create a loving atmosphere
that fosters and maintains the
spiritual, social and academic
needs of students, and to instill
a lifetime appreciation for
learning in all members of our
school community.

It’s been a while since I’ve written. Our wonderful faculty has been
writing this column for me recently. I’m getting a bit spoiled not writing
every week. I must say that I thoroughly enjoy reading about their experiences and I truly understand why our students are such excellent writers.
However, I will add that I think I might be getting rusty. I need to exercise
my creativity and storytelling skills
So much has occurred since the beginning of school. The students
provide so many wonderful moments that make all of our jobs worthwhile.
Teachers email me charming anecdotes to share. Once I stop giggling from
reading their messages, I record them to include.
Each year various high schools come to our school during the seventh and eighth grade lunch/recess period. They make presentations to the
students in the Marian Room when it’s the seventh and eighth graders time
to go outside. Surprisingly, the talks are well attended. One day during
morning prayers and announcements, I mentioned that Holy Ghost Prep was
here to speak to our boys. Apparently I failed to include that it was only for
seventh and eighth grade boys. At around 1:30 p.m., the boys in Mrs.
Brown’s first grade class asked her when Holy Ghost was coming to speak
to them! Now that’s what I call recruiting!
The preschool is a treasure of inspiration. You just never know what
the children will say. One little boy said to his teacher, “I love when the
Hope (read Pope) comes.” To which she responded, “That’s so nice.” He
replied, “Yea, when the Hope came I got to stay home lots of days!”
One of my favorite stories of all time happened a few weeks ago. I
was visiting the preschool and a group of boys were sitting in the hallway
waiting for their classmates to finish using the facilities. One little guy saw
me and stood up. With the widest eyes he said to me, “How did you get out
of the television?” At first I was befuddled, and then I realized that he saw
me every day on our telecast. He thought I lived in the television! Once I
composed myself, I told him that I was magic. When I was leaving, he
asked me if I was going back into the television. I told him I’d be back in
the television in time for afternoon prayers and announcements. Out of the
mouths of babes!
