CONTESTS IN OUR SCHOOL
At the end of February, students of our school have taken part in
„Fox”-English language competition. It’s a national contest for all
Polish students. The questions concern English culture, grammar and
vocabulary. A few questions are about the required reading. It was a
good opportunity for us to check our English. We could also compete
in the international mathematic competition called “Kangaroo”. We
hope we’ll be successful.

What games has the world been waiting for?
Grand Theft Auto V – Grand Theft Auto + SAN ANDREAS (the biggest virtual world in history) + 3 Protagonist? It sounds like a very good game, especially when we talk about the ROCKSTAR production.
See you in SAN ANDREAS. J Premiere: 17th September 2013
Battlefield 4 – The third part of Battlefield was the best First Person Shooter. Now Battlefield comes
back. The first trailer of BF4 looks great. Better graphics (I don’t now how, but it is better), much nonlinear single player mode, better AI, much better damage model. This is Forcebite 3! Will DICE come up
to expectations? Premiere: October or November 2013
Watch_Dogs – Hacking, shooting, fighting, driving, Chicago and revange. The recipe for a nice, interesting and original game? Yes, that’s how I think. This is a very good recipe for a big sandbox game.
Premiere: December 2013
Sprinter Cell: Black List – Sam Fisher returned to fight, but now in the expanded form. It’s your decision, what agent you are and what you do to reach your target. Are you a spy, a silent assassin or a
hard fighter? Premiere: August 2013
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – A pirate, who is a silent assassin? Interesting.
What about Caribbean and ships battle? Sounds good, too. But for me, that will be spin-off. I think, the
part number is unnecessary.
Why? Because in this series a new number means new realities? Not this time. I suppose, it will be an
interesting game, because it has an extra plan for the gameplay. Premiere: 29th October 2013

Easter – how do we celebrate it in Poland?
Before the beginning of the Holy Week we can buy pussy-willows ,which are taken to church to be blessed on Palm Sunday.
In the Holy Week we always buy layer cakes that are usually filled with fruit,
chocolate or marzipan. Our traditional cake we called "mazurek" is sold only during Easter. People in Poland always make a lot of wonderful dyed or hand-painted
Easter eggs known as "pisanki".
On Holy Thursday we take part in the mass, which commemorates Jesus Christ's
Last Supper.
On Good Friday no one is allowed to eat meat because it is a fast.
Easter Eve is the day when the Christians prepare baskets full of eggs, sausage,
bread, cakes and go to the church to get the food blessed.
On Easter Sunday we celebrate the Christ Resurrection. We always eat breakfast
with our family. After feast we go to the church on the mass. We spend that day
with our family or friends.
On Easter Monday we have got a tradition, which we call "śmigus dyngus" or Wet
Monday. During this day we pour water on each other.
I like Easter time a lot.

On 11, 12 and 13 we were having 3 days of retreat. This means, that instead of
going to school we had "lessons" in the church. This year, we were visited by the
polish priest living in the Ukraine.
During these 3 days we were talking about our faith, listening about work and
life in Ukraine and preparing to the sacrament of confirmation.
Each "lesson" lasted from 1 to 2 hours. After it, we were watching a film about
Saint Filippo Neri. Film was very long and described almost whole life of Filippo
after his arrival to Rome, until his death. After the film everyone was very sad
(especially 2nd and 3rd classes who were supossed to write a review based on this
film). Some of us (mostly girls) were making baskets and easter eggs for kermis
(and were exucessed from writing the film review and were very happy about it).
2 years ago we started the annual kermis on Christmas and Easter. We get up early in the morning on Sunday and go to church. We are placing tables in front of
church on the way to the front door. When someone wants to walk inside he
passes our stands. We are selling Christmas or Easter ornaments. Everyone pays
as much as he or she wants. All the money are spend on charity.

Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier
The Final Frontier is the
fifteenth album by British
heavy metal band - Iron
Maiden.
I think that this album is
one of the most unique albums of this band.
The lycris are catchy and
choruses guarantee to get
stuck in your head.
You can find a lof of wonderful songs for example :
"Coming Home" , "El Dorado" and even longer track
(When The Wild Wind Blows).
The solos of some of the songs are really amazing.
After listening to "The Final Frontier" it should be noted, that
they put a lot of work into this album.
If you listen this kind of music you absolutely have to listen to
this CD.

Delirium by Lauren Oliver
I would like to present a book that I have read recently.
“Delirium” is a book written by an American writer, Lauren Oliver. It’s the first part of a trilogy.
The main character of the book is Lena Haloway, a
young American girl who lives in Portland, but the world,
that she lives in is very different from ours. It’s the
world of the future. The government and all powerful
people of the area think that love and being in love is
bad and harmful. So, they decide it will be better for
people not to experience love and emotions. Most people understand love as a disease and they find a medicine to cure the ones in love.
Everyone who is 18 years old, must have a brain operation. As a result people don’t feel love and emotions
anymore.
Young people are usually afraid of the operation, but Lena can’t wait it. She was told that her
mother died because of love, when she was a little girl. (It was a suicide.) Lena’s mother was
operated three times but she still could feel love and emotions. Lena doesn’t want to die like
her mother, so she is waiting impatiently for the operation and the moment when she will be
“healthy”. Her best friend Hana is her opposite. She thinks that living without meeting friends,
love and music which is banned, is monotonous and boring. A lot of other young people don’t
agree to live under control. They want to be free and enjoy life.
One day Hana takes Lena to a music concert, although all the performances and all the gatherings are forbidden. Lena is amazed. It’s different from everything that she has ever experienced. In the meantime Lena meets a boy – Alex (boys and girls meetings are forbidden, before the operation they can’t even talk) and she falls in love. They meet secretly and day by
day they are closer. One day they find out that Lena’s mother is alive and there’s a different
world without all those prohibitions. They plan to run away from Portland but Lena’s family
realizes that she is “sick” (She’s in love with Alex). The girl is really unhappy and it seems
there’s no hope for her. How does the story finish? Will Alex and Lena run away together? If
you want to know you have to read the book! I recommend it highly!

The Shining
This film was made in 1980 by Stanley Kubrick . It was
based on Stephen King’s novel “The Shining”. The main
hero Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) moves in with his
wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and his son Danny (Danny
Lloyd) to a hotel in mountains where he gets a job as
winter caretaker. Jack wants to write his own book in
silence and peace. But soon something strange and evil
will happen in this hotel. They are not alone. This is a
must for those of you who like horrors. It’s one of the
best horror films ever made !

Wiktoria Grabny
We are very proud that the graduate of our school has become a
well-known model. For Maddie has no boundaries or barriers. She
is very determined to succeed. Madeleine "Maddie" Kulicka, was
born on January 12, 1994. This beautiful girl under the sign of the
Capricorn believes that the most important thing is to wear comfortable clothes and try not to copy anyone. So Maddie dressed
differently every day. She loves her mom for her patience, understanding and love. On the 18. birthday she wishes to get a tattoo.
She loves swimming, dancing, writing, and travelling. But above
all, she loves her job.
A summury of Maddie’s flourishing career:
- she was discovered by the fashion industry
-Maddie’s portal TheOnes2Watch.com marked as worth mentioning
- she signed a contract with the Elite agency in New York City
