Qualitative Findings:
Surveyor “General Impressions”
Anything about the tailgate that concerns you?
• The lack of security in our lots (Lots 1, 1A) versus the
main lot (Lot H)
• PD and security were not enforcing guidelines in lots
5 and 6 (e.g., drinking games, amplified sound)
• Map of venue was not being handed out uniformly
(e.g., Lot 5A did have any guidelines, Lot 5B and 6
were handing them out)
• CSC staff appeared more proactive, but less effective,
than PPD at educating fans openly playing drinking
games
• e.g., observed 2 pairs of PPD officers pass within feet of
active beer pong game
In what ways does event staff/law enforcement
appear to be taking precautions in tailgate areas?
• It looks like they provided extra security in Lot H.
• Some CSC are actively informing fans in Lot H about
no drinking game rule, mainly for Beer Pong games;
PPD was actively circling lots, making themselves
more visible.
Other Comments/Feedback?
– Policies should be consistently enforced
– Picnic in the Park had a free giant beer pong themedgame. Mixed messaging propagating behavior that is
otherwise discouraged?
• Other games were popular: ping pong, foosball, volleyball
– Picnic in the Park did not have any easily accessible
free water options, despite it being a very hot day.
• When information booth was asked where free tap water
could be found, they did not know.
– Unclear when tailgating was over. Generally it is 6
hours after opening, which would have been 5pm in
this case. However at 6pm surveyors observed no
education or enforcement of the end of alcohol
consumption.
