Every chest X-ray or chest CT performed at King’s Daughters is reviewed by a cross-sectional committee. Abnormal results (where spots or lung nodules are found) are referred to the lung health nurse navigator for follow up. A nurse practitioner is at the center full-time to assess patients and, together with a pulmonologist, treat each patient. Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic Pulmonary hypertension can be difficult to diagnose because symptoms can be mistaken for other conditions. The Center for Lung Health provides evaluation, diagnosis, education and treatment of this complicated disease. Patients are seen by physician referral. Pulmonary Function Tests Pulmonary function tests are performed with a physician order for the purpose of: • Diagnosing certain types of lung disease, especially asthma, bronchitis and emphysema • Finding the cause of shortness of breath • Measuring whether exposure to contaminants has affected lung function Pulmonary function tests also can be performed to evaluate the effectiveness of medication and measure progress of treatment. REHABILITATION SERVICES The outpatient rehabilitation program at King’s Daughters helps patients regain strength, adapt to changes in their abilities, and live the fullest, most productive lives possible. The program offers four treatment specialties: • Audiology and Speech Therapy • Occupational Therapy • Occupational Therapy • Speech Pathology Our rehabilitation program offers services for all ages, from pediatrics through mature adults. Services include: • Hearing aid program serving all ages, including programmable and digital aids • Hearing aid repair and maintenance • Auditory processing assessment • Newborn hearing assessment and follow up • Otoacoustic emissions, ABR and ENG testing Testing and services are provided at King’s Daughters Ashland and select Family Care Centers. Programs include sports medicine, neuralgic diseases, orthopedics, pediatrics, work injury, lymphedema and arthritis pain care. However, long-term sleep problems have long-term consequences. To address this growing problem, King’s Daughters launched the region’s first Sleep Medicine program in 1985. Since then, we’ve helped thousands of patients with safe, effective treatment for sleep disorders ranging from apnea to insomnia and narcolepsy. Sleep studies are performed in private, comfortable, home-like rooms, usually between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. We can adapt testing times to allow shift workers to be examined during their normal sleep times. Preventive services, such as screening tests, counseling services, and preventive medicines, are tests or treatments that your doctor or others provide to prevent illnesses before they cause you symptoms or problems.
