THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS!
As I am writing this, we are approaching Thanksgiving, but about a month away is
Christmas! Does anyone else think we’ve gotten here fast this year? I’d like to share a couple of
thoughts related to these holidays and offer my sincere prayers for you to have a wonderful time
at both these special days.
Many years ago, Matthew Henry, a well-known Bible scholar, was once robbed of his
wallet. Knowing that it was his duty to give thanks in everything, he meditated on this incident and
recorded in his diary the following:
“Let me be thankful, first, because he never robbed me before; second, because although he took
my purse, he did not take my life; third, because although he took all I possessed, it was not
much; and fourth, because it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed.” Matthew Henry (16621714).
May the Lord give each of us that kind of spiritual maturity regardless of what we face in
this old world!
Recently a man shared about a time he was teaching youth in Sunday School and felt a
little frustrated that they were not paying better attention as he taught about Christmas. He got
their attention when he said that the wise men made a trip to see baby Jesus and they came from
Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas! Suddenly they were right with him, correcting him that the wise
men did not come from these states!!
Regardless of what you are teaching—literally in a class, or through your life, speech
and attitude—someone really is watching and paying attention whether you realize it or not!
What message will you give about Jesus during His upcoming birthday celebration?
May the Lord bless you with awareness of many reasons to be thankful and to rejoice
and celebrate the birth of our Savior with a positive witness before all who are watching and
listening!
I’m so glad to be your DOM,
Glenn

Luke 2:11-14
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the
Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in
swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
