INTRODUCTION
At Bennett’s Creek Nursery, we strive to provide a full line of beautiful fall
and spring blooming, hardy camellias. All plants are propagated on their own
roots and container grown. Production techniques maximize branching, color,
and bud set. Your customers will appreciate the exceptional combination of
handsome evergreen foliage and colorful cool season blooms.
Our Spring Garden Series consists of japonicas and hybrids chosen for a
reliable combination of hardiness and exceptional flower qualities. As the
name implies, they flower during late winter and early spring. They perform
best in partial shade and protected from harsh winter winds. They prefer a
moist, yet well drained, slightly acid loam soil, rich in organic matter. On
average, this grouping of camellias is hardy throughout Zone 7 under these
conditions after proper acclimation. The April Series subgrouping within this
series is among the most hardy to Zone 6B under proper conditions (some
wind and sun protection). “April” refers to the anticipated bloom period in
their northern most range.
Our Fall Garden Series is a wide selection of sasanquas, hiemalis, and vernalis.
They perform best in full sun to partial shade and are frequently utilized
as screens or hedges. Contrary to popular belief, they are slightly less cold
hardy than their japonica cousins (Zone 7B through 9). Yet, their autumn
flowers are a welcome addition to any landscape when so few woodies are
in bloom.
Our Winter Garden Series is a selection of Dr. William Ackerman and Dr.
Clifford Park’s hardy fall blooming hybrids. They crossed exceptionally
cold hardy Camellia oleifera strains with various sasanquas. The result is a
hardier selection of fall bloomers for gardeners located as far north as Zone
6B. As is true with so many species of plants, these hybrids grow tougher
with age in regards to cold resistance. Established plants show less winter
injury than newly planted ones after arctic outbreaks. Spring planting is
recommended in colder climate zones.
As always, your questions and comments are welcome. At Bennett’s Creek
Nursery, your satisfaction is our goal. And we appreciate the opportunity to
serve you.

HOW TO MAKE GREEN TEA
Pick tender young growth (shoots with 2-3 leaves leaves are recommended). Allow any water on leaves to
dry in shade a few hours if needed.
Bruise leaves to begin the fermentation process by rolling several shoots between your hands until the leaves
darken and become crinkled, but not broken into pieces. Repeat until all leaves are bruised.
Allow leaves to ferment for 2-3 days by placing a thin layer of leaves on a tray. Store in a shady location.
Dry leaves in an oven set at 250°F for 20 minutes.
Store in an airtight container until ready to use.
(Many factors can affect the taste of tea leaves such as the variety, time of season,
climate, the soil, and even the environment. Try different conditions or even blend
batches with other flavors and find something perfect for you and your taste.)
