stewardship
phrase,
“Stewardship
without
mission is unnecessary and
mission without stewardship
is impossible.” Stewardship
and
mission
are
inseparable. The funding of
the
Great
Commission
needs
to
come
from
believers. The money which
God entrusts to us has
many purposes, and the
funding of mission work is of
first importance. Through
the giving of our money, we
demonstrate our obedience
to Jesus’ command to reach
out to all people. Paul wrote
that, through our giving, we
“test the sincerity of [our]
love by comparing it with the
earnestness of others” (2
Corinthians 8:8).
Money and the Great
Commission
Jesus’ parting command
was: “Therefore go and
make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey
everything
I
have
commanded you.” (Matthew
28:19-20). Jesus was very
direct and explicit with His
mandate.
There is no
question as to where or with
whom we are to share the
Gospel. The love that God
gives to us is to be shared
by us with all people
everywhere. He has given
us our marching orders,
and, in His strength, we can
give ourselves fully to His
work.
For
nonbelievers
and
those who lack spiritual
maturity, the giving of
money is done begrudgingly
out of a sense of obligation.
By the grace of God, our
attitude toward giving is a
“want to” rather than a “got
to” give. We view giving as
a
privilege
and
an
opportunity to spread the
Gospel through our money.
Our giving expresses our
gratitude for who God is and
all that He has done for us
through His Son. Through
faith, we hold onto our
money loosely and then are
privileged to experience the
Because God has chosen
to use us as His tools to
bring salvation to all people,
we must use our lives and
gifts to spread the Good
News. Paul wrote, “We are
therefore
Christ’s
ambassadors, as though
God were making His
appeal through us” (2
Corinthians 5:20). One of
the tools that God gives us
to use in our mission of
reaching out to others with
the Gospel is our money.
According
to
an
old

joy of giving as we give God
our first and best.
As
Christians we understand that
God has a claim on all that
we have, so we willingly and
cheerfully give our money to
help all people hear of God’s
love. Money is an important
tool for God’s mission.
Through our faithful giving,
we are able to leverage our
witnessing to all people.

A newsletter to help you grow as a steward
Worshiping God through
Giving
We worship God through
our worship services as we
pray, sing, and give Him praise.
We can live lives that give Him
honor and glory; however, in
some ways, the money that we
give to God is one of the most
special ways that we can
worship Him. It is difficult to
give money because there are
many things that can be
purchased with our money to
make our lives easier and more
comfortable. The giving of our
money is a testimony of our
praise and gratitude to God. Is
there anything more worshipful
than honoring God with our
money?
Testing your Knowledge
of Scripture
What parable could the
following picture refer to?
If you said the Parable of
the Two Builders, you were
right. “Therefore everyone who
hears these words of Mine and
puts them into practice is like a
wise man who built his house
on a rock. The rain came down,
the streams rose, and the winds
blew and beat against that
house; yet it did not fall,
because it had its foundation on
the rock. But everyone who
hears these words of Mine and
does not put them into practice
is like a foolish man who built
his house on sand. The rain
came down, the streams rose,
and the winds blew and beat
against that house, and it fell
with a great crash” (Matthew
7:24-27).
The wise builder selects a
site on a rock. Then he will not
need to worry about heavy rains
or strong winds. A house built
upon rock has a foundation that
lasts.
A foolish builder
constructs his house as though
he is pitching a tent.
Through this parable, Jesus
is telling us that a person who
hears His words and puts them
into practice is like the wise
builder. It is foolish to hear the
words of Jesus and not obey
them. Such a person may be
compared to a builder who
builds his house on the sand
without a foundation. Jesus
wants us to hear His words
and obey them.
The Pump Needs to be
Primed
If you’ve ever been on a
farm, you may be familiar with
old-fashioned water pumps.
When pumps have been out
of use for a time, they can
often be pumped fruitlessly.
The problem can be solved by
priming the pump with water,
which expands the cork,
bringing up water, rather than
just air.
Life can be compared to
that pump.
In order to
receive, one may need to give
first.
We have to put
something into life to get
something out of it.
Paul
stated
this
principle
in
Galatians 6:7: “A man reaps
what he sows.” Rewards and
successes in life are earned;
they result from hard work and
time.
This principle of priming the
pump, of sowing and reaping,
applies to our giving as well.
It is true that God provides for
all. Jesus Himself said, “He
[God] causes His sun to rise
on the evil and the good, and
sends rain on the righteous
and
the
unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45).
However, He also promised a
special blessing on those who
are generous in their giving:
“A generous man will prosper;
he who refreshes others will
himself
be
refreshed” (Proverbs 11:25).
As redeemed children of
God, our main motivation for
giving is our desire to respond
with grateful hearts to Him for
His marvelous gifts to us,
especially the gift of His Son,
Jesus, Who brought us
forgiveness of sins and life
eternal. We will desire to
give, not for reward, but to
honor Him with our lives and
our time, our talents and our
treasures. We will find that
we cannot out-give God.
Speaking through the prophet
Malachi, God challenged,
“‘Bring the whole tithe into the
storehouse, that there may be
food in My house. Test Me in
this,’ says the Lord Almighty,
‘and see if I will not throw
open the floodgates of heaven
and pour out so much
blessing that you will not have
room enough for it’” (Malachi
3:10).
Accept God’s challenge:
put Him to the test. Prime the
pump.
Your Final Message
Most people want to put off
thinking about and preparing
for the time when the Lord will
take them to His eternal
home.
You should be
prepared because only God
knows
each
person’s
timetable. Whether you are
given a short or long life, you
can have a final opportunity,
through a will or trust, to share
a message of your love for
Christ and a gift to continue
your
faithful
stewardship.
Your last will and testament
can proclaim your love of
the Lord and provide an
encouragement
to
your
families and friends to grow in
their faith.
Through a
Christian Preamble, which is
the way you can
begin a will or
trust, you have
your
last
opportunity
to
witness to your
loved ones.
If your will or
trust gives a final
testimony of your
trust in the Lord, it
will be a real
source of encouragement to
those you leave behind. It will
comfort your family and
friends to know that you
believed and trusted in the
promise that Jesus gave in
John 11:25-26, “I am the
resurrection and the life. He
who believes in Me will live,
even though he dies; and
whoever lives and believes in
Me will never die. If your
Christian preamble is in a will,
your message will go beyond
your family and friends,
because a will is filed in
probate court which is public
record.
A will or trust is also a
wonderful time to put your
love for the Lord into action
with a gift for the Lord’s work
through your church.
For
many Christians, this may be
the biggest gift they make. A
bequest in your will gives the
message
of
Christ’s
importance to
you. A gift for
the Lord’s work
acknowledges
God’s
ownership
of
your life and
things and that
you are simply
returning them
to God Who provided them for
your use. As J. Gregory Pope
said, “Planning an enduring
gift
that
supports
and
perpetuates
the
Gospel
message is a significant—
sometimes final—witness of a
faithful and maturing disciple
in response to the grace of a
loving God.”
May God grant us all an
abundant measure of His
grace so our final messages
will bring glory to Him.

PRESCHOOL AIDE OPENING AT ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN
SCHOOL...The Board of Education is hiring a Preschool aide
for part time work (12:30 p.m—5:30 p.m.) The aide must have
at least a high school diploma and be able to pass a background
check, have a certificate of CPR & First Aid for infant, child &
adult, and be willing to complete universal precautions, mandatory reporting, and 10 hours of class within the first year of employment. If you are interested in this position, please call Mrs.

LOVE OFFERING for the remainder of the year will be devoted
to “Church Restoration” projects. Bd. of Stewardship .
YOUNG AT HEART CLUB will meet for a noon meal after the
late service in the church basement “fellowship hall”, Sun., June
19th. “Kentucky Fried Chicken” will be furnished with those in
attendance bringing the side dishes. Join us for a great meal

There were 9 members and Pastor Kenny present.
Vice President Bernice Johnsen opened the meeting with a reading, ”You Know Me Inside Out”.
Pastor’s devotion was based on Psalm 139 and Romans 5:8.

The minutes and treasurer’s report were approved.
Circle Reports:
Anna Circle – Making Quilts. More volunteers needed.
Elizabeth Circle continues the Prayer Chain.
Mary Martha Circle will meet at Carolyn Stuhr’s.
Corresponding Secretary sent 4 Get well cards.
There was no old or new business.
June hostesses will be Bernice Johnsen & Frances Ramedan.
The July meeting will be at Latham Park.
We sang the hymns “A Hymn of Glory Let us Sing” and “We
Thank Thee Jesus, Dearest Friend”.

Approved! Thank you for all who have been praying that our work
and residency permits would be renewed. It is always a time of
stress gathering all the required paperwork along with all the appropriate stamps of approval and submitting it on time.
A Beginning… One of the goals for Tim, Moses and Splash is to
teach literacy in several of the Khwe villages. One day a week is
scheduled for literacy work. Splash is a natural teacher and comes
alive in front of a group of people. One middle aged man who had
never gone to school was reading at the end of the day. On the
next visit to that village, before the session began, Tim was listening as that same man was reading from our translation of Genesis,
practicing his new skill.
At Last! We thank all of you who have been praying for the rains to
come here. They finally did arrive several months later than normal. For those who planted their fields, the crops look good. However, many people did not prepare their fields or plant because it
looked like the rains would not come. Please pray that good will be
available and accessible during the coming winter and dry season.
Since moving to our new house, we’ve had disastrous attempts at
gardening. If it wasn’t the ever present nematodes infecting and
destroying plants it was the local fauna eating everything. Tim has
cleared a spot and built a 15x15 foot structure and covered it with
shade net, made some raised beds to minimize the effects of the
nematodes. The shade net keeps out the plundering animals and
gives some protection from the strong sunshine. We have been
enjoying sweet corn, peas, carrots, squash, tomatoes and greens.
We give thanks for successful gardening & pray that it will continue.
Donations Needed for Mercy Meals
Please consider a donation to Mercy Meals of
Siouxland. Mercy Meals of Siouxland needs an additional $10,000.00 in donations each year to replace
the grant awarded by the Iowa District West LWML
in 2014. We used the last money from the grant
in April 2016. If you would like to donate, please make
your check payable to Mercy Meals of Siouxland/Faith
Lutheran Church and mail it to Mercy Meals of
Siouxland, Faith Lutheran Church, 3101 Hamilton
Boulevard, Sioux City, Iowa 51104. Thank you for your

CANOEING THE NIOBRARA RIVER-VALENTINE, NEAUGUST 3-6 - St Paul's Youth and family members are
welcome to come along. We will be meeting up with Trinity
Lutheran Church from Garden City, KS, along with a couple
of other LCMS churchs from Colby, Ks and a couple of Nebraska congregations to enjoy canoeing, Kayaking and tubing down the Niobrara River. We will meet up with these
groups on August 3rd to enjoy 3 of camping, Canoeing and
activities. We will enjoy Christian fellowship at Smith
Falls State Park. Come enjoy campfire devotions and sing
a longs, great food, fellowship and games along with two
great days on the river. This will be a great time for
meeting new Christian friends and enjoying time with other friends and family.
Please set aside the dates and watch upcoming bulletins
for more information. We will leave Sioux City around
1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3rd and be back early
Saturday afternoon.
Please Pray for our Youth. - 7 youth and 2 Adults will be
attending the LCMS National Youth Gathering. We will be
leaving Friday, July 15th and returning Thursday, July
21st. The Youth Gathering is from July 16th through the
20th. We will be joining approximately 30,000 other
LCMS youth in New Orleans, LA to praise the Lord and
grow in our personal relationship with our Savior.

11. St. Paul’s Youth will be attending this fun event and
are inviting families and members to join us on June 11th.
RISEFEST 2016—June 17 & 18 in Sheldon, IA Tickets are
$35 (children 10 and under free, now thru May 31st.

Join us at Sun Valley Golf Course, 18 holes,
cart, prizes, steak dinner & fun—$60.00
per player. If you would be willing to
sponsor a hole, the cost is $100 for the
hole. This buys you a sign at the tee box of
the hole. This Tournament is made possible by the
wonderful participation of people like you. For over 10
yrs. we’ve enjoyed the support of congregations and
individuals who support Christian education. We’d like

The annual Friends of Christ Mystery Tour
is set for Friday, July 22nd, with coffee and rolls served
at 7 a.m. The bus leaves at 7:30 a.m. from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and should return around 6:30 p.m. The
cost is only $35 per person, which includes a chartered
bus, coffee and rolls, lunch, snacks, and all fees for the
day. Please reserve your spot by calling Joyce at 2766375 or sending your check to her at 1712 So. Clinton,
Sioux City, IA 51106 by Sun., July 17th. You will also
need to bring a picture ID with you on this trip. Reserve your spot early for this fun day with LCMS members and friends from area churches!
