Advent Season
During the Advent
Season, the school will
participate in a school
wide Virtual Advent
Prayer. This will take
place each morning over
the PA System with out
Student Council and Leadership Team as prayer
leaders. An Advent PowerPoint Presentation - to be
used in each classroom - has been created to guide
our morning prayers and Advent activities each week.
We have booked an Advent Liturgy during Week #3 to
gather as a school faith community in the gym prior to
our break for Christmas. We are grateful for this
opportunity to help spiritually prepare for Christmas
and to focus the students' attention on the true
meaning of Christmas.
Thank you to Mrs. Ianni, Mrs. Silva, our awesome
Student Council and our Staff for their wonderful faith
leadership each week!

Christmas Holidays
Christmas Break will be from December
19th, 2015 - January 3rd, 2016. May
the JOY of Christmas, the magic of the
season and our celebration of the birth
of Jesus be yours.
Continued blessings as we
celebrate a Happy New Year 2016. On behalf of the
entire staff at Holy Spirit School we would like to take
this opportunity to wish you and your families a very
reflective and rejuvenating Holy Christmas. We hope
that you have plenty of time to connect as a family and
to truly enjoy this very special season.

Dec 3: School Family Advent Mass 6;30 PM at St. Ambrose
Church - Jr. Choir and Kindergarten’s to Sing - Refreshments
in Hall following Mass - thanks School Council!
Dec 10: Primary Christmas Concert 1:10 PM
Dec 14 : Junior Music Performance in the Gym at 1:10 PM
Dec 15: School Christmas Turkey Luncheon - lunch provided
for ALL students - Cost $2.00 - we are eco-friendly - please
bring plate, utensils and a drink - thanks School Council!
Dec 16: Prologue Christmas Show - Guest Performers (no
cost - FDK and Primary in AM and Jr./Intermediate in PM)
Dec 18: Joy Day (Ballroom Dance)
The Staff of Holy Spirit School agrees that while gifts are very
appreciated, a handwritten note or Christmas card from
their students is something that we all cherish just as much,
if not more. Jesus gave the gift of Himself and continues to
each day. Through our actions and words we can show the
true meaning of the season. Therefore, we respectfully
suggest that gifts not be purchased for staff. Instead,
please make a donation to Santa’s Workshop in support of
Family and Children’s Services!
ATTENDANCE/SAFE ARRIVAL
It is very important that if your child
is ill, has a medical appointment or
will be late for any reason, that you
contact the school with the
necessary information: Full name,
grade, room number, teacher and reason your
child(ren) will be away.
Our school answering machine is in service 24
hours a day. Please note that we must receive a
call before 9:10 from a parent/guardian or
caregiver as per safe school policy. Our number is
519-621-8973.
Bus Delays & Cancellations
Under certain conditions such as inclement weather,
it may be necessary to close the school, send
students home early and/or cancel school board bus
and taxi transportation services.

Reminder that all students must
wear proper footwear in the school at
all times should have indoor and
outdoor foot wear. Students should
bring extra clothes especially socks
in the colder or wet days.

DRESSING FOR THE WEATHER
Cold Weather - Outside Recess
The colder weather has arrived. The
safety of students will always be the
first consideration to go out or stay
indoors for recess. When the wind chill
is -20 or lower, we will keep students inside for
recess. When the wind chill is -15 to -19, lunch
recess outside will be shortened. We refer to the
Environment Canada website when making the
decision regarding outdoor play.
Absent - Going on a Family Trip
Please call the office to note your
child’s attendance absence if you are
going on a holiday or for a prolonged
absence from school. Request an
“Intent to Be Absent Form.” Thanks!

When Your Child is not feeling well ...
Please ensure that your child comes to
school every day with the appropriate
clothing and footwear for outdoors play.
Please do not send your child to school
after telling them they can call home if they feel
better. Please ensure your children are well enough
to come to school, as all children will benefit from
going outside for recess and lunch breaks.

we hope to
receive our
Spirit Wear before Christmas Break. Clothing
Items will be sent home with our students when it
arrives unless you call the school to indicate
otherwise (i.e. you planned for it to be a
Christmas Gift).

Please take a moment to visit the
lost and found box at our school
before the Christmas break.
There are all kinds of goodies in
the box that have been gathered
through the first term.

United Way Campaign - 2015
Hats Off to our AWESOME Staff
who raised $220.00 in our annual
United Way Campaign. Through a
staff chili lunch, we were able to raise just
over $220.00 for the United Way. Way to Go
Flames! Thank you for your contributions to
this worthwhile cause.
Santa’s Workshop Collection:
Family and Children Services … Thanks!
This year we will be collecting items that are to be donated
as part of an emergency fund held by Family & Children’s
Services. These items are used as a last minute resource for
families in emergency situations within the community. As
a school community we will collect items starting until Dec.
16th. Thank you so much for your support of others in our
community. Items that are needed (from babies to adults):

Socks for all ages

Diapers, baby wipes, formula **huge need**

Winter clothing for babies and children and
youth (hats, mitts, scarves, boots, jackets)

Clothing for babies and children

A new unwrapped toy (all ages)

