Update from the Board
Happy New Year from our
Chesdin Clubhouse Manager
2013 went by at sonic speed! As you read in the annual
member letter, looking back it was still an incredibly busy
year at the Club.
Well friends, the holidays are
behind us and we’re getting ready
to embrace 2014. It seems that the
only thing we can count on in life is
change and we have certainly had
our share of changes at Chesdin!
2014 is already full of activities and we are excited about the
opportunities. Our budget forecast, while still lean and
extremely practical, projects 2014 to be an improvement.
Many of you see the very visible results of committee work
such as Golf, Greens, House, Pool, Tennis, etc., but we can
assure you that one of the hardest working and challenged
committees is our Finance Committee. This group of
dedicated individuals puts hours and hours of detail work
throughout the year into ensuring that we continue on a
sound financial footing. Please give them a big “Thank You”!
I’m glad to announce that it’s definitely looking up and I
expect lots of good things for the New Year.
As you’ve probably heard, we will hold our very first Board
Election for the Chesdin Clubhouse. Ballots have already been
mailed. If you’re a stockholding member, you are eligible to
vote. Don’t miss this opportunity to make your opinion
known. Nominate a candidate or at the least, cast your vote.
The first Annual Stockholders’ Meeting will elect the new
board on January 16th. Be a part of the Chesdin history.
The Board and Search Committee are fully engaged in plans
for replacing our General Manager. We are grateful to Rich
for his dedication and long hours during his 5-1/2 years here
and share his happiness for his exciting opportunity. Many
things have changed our club environment since his arrival –
from the recession to Chesdin – and we are taking some
time to evaluate what skills we really need to prepare for
our long-term future. Your input is welcome so please let a
Board member know your thoughts.
During the cold winter month of January, take advantage of
the warmth of the club and spend time getting to know your
neighbors and friends. January is a great time to invite your
friends to join you for dinner. If you live in the Chesdin Landing
s not belong to the
neighborhood, invite a neighbor who does
club. There are many benefits to living in the neighborhood
and belonging to the club. Our Clubhouse Memberships are
affordable; a great way to socialize with neighbors, enjoy a
quiet family meal or just get away for some gal/guy time at
the clubhouse. Folks who live here know what a trek it can be
to a restaurant away from the neighborhood! Enjoy the
privilege of Chesdin.
In the interim, our dedicated and talented staff is stepping
up to ensure things roll on. Our Department Heads are
.
experienced
professionals and that is why things run
smoothly on a daily basis. They will be reporting to the Board
Executive Committee until a General Manager is in place.
This month we’ve invited Chef Bobby Davis from
Meadowbrook to give us a taste of fine dining. Look for details
in the upcoming e-blasts. Burger Night is back. Ladies will also
appreciate the Wednesday Night Wine Down and the men
typically cater to Thirsty Thursday.
The Board has scheduled a “town hall” meeting for
Thursday, January 30 at 6 P.M. at Meadowbrook so that we
can update you on our status and answer questions from
members. We hope to see you there!
Who’s Who at Meadowbrook and Chesdin
And don’t forget the Friday Night Buffet. We’ve created a
tradition and more families enjoy the buffet every week. It’s
really a great opportunity to wind down and reconnect with
your family and friends after the work week.

He was a Division III All-American in
golf at Longwood College, where he
graduated in 1982.
Two years later he accepted a position
at Brandermill Country Club and for a
decade served as a Golf Assistant
under Tommy Wine.
Tim admitted he did have other interests
besides Golf. Ask him any day how the
Pittsburgh Steelers are doing this year.
Tim White, PGA, Chesdin Pro Shop
What do you know about Chesdin’s
PGA Golf Pro, Tim White?
Richmond native, Tim White started
playing golf at the age of 14. He
enjoyed hitting balls at the old
Manchester High School field, using an
old right-handed club given to him by
his uncle, who also gave him his early
informal training.
“I picked it up naturally right away,”
Tim said.
Tim’s first “official” round of golf was
played at the Pocoshock Golf Course,
the site of the present day Providence
Golf Club, and it was also where he
began his golf career as a teenager.
Tim’s first Head Golf Professional
position was at Birkdale Golf Club in
1996. Three years later he went to
work for Golf South who bought the
Chesdin course in 1999.
The Lake Chesdin Golfers Club had
humble beginnings, started
singlehandedly by Tim, who pitched a
tent in the area that is now the #10
tee. Sitting in his “booth” armed with a
cash register and a smile, Tim
welcomed new golfers to Chesdin.
“They gave me a table and a cooler
with snacks and sodas. Sometimes I’d
sit in my car and wait for golfers to
show up!” he revealed.
Tim has won many titles during his golf
career. In 1987 he won the Virginia
State Open. In 2010 and 2011 he was
the Mid Atlantic PGA Senior Player of
the Year. He played in the 2011 Senior
PGA Championship at Valhalla Country
Club in Kentucky and the 2012 Senior
PGA Championship in Benton Harbour,
Michigan.
courses Chesdin remains his favorite.
“I’ll put our greens up against
anybody’s,” he said. (The course) “It’s
challenging – no two holes are the
same and has the best greens in the
area if not Virginia!”
Tom McKnight, Senior PGA Tour Player,
agreed during a Hooters Tournament.
“Lake Chesdin has the best greens we
play all year.”
Chesdin hosted a Hooters Tour Event
for five years.
During his Senior PGA experience Tim
has played with PGA stars, Bobby
Wadkins, Fred Funk, Keith Clearwater,
Tom Byrum, Tom Pernice, Willie Wood,
David Frost and Bill Glasson.
In 2001, Tim set the course record at
Chesdin with a 62.
During the summer months Tim gives
lessons to young golfers who attend his
junior golf clinic. He also gives lessons
to all levels throughout the year.
“I don’t give them a complete overhaul,
but help them to focus on their
strengths,” Tim says.
Tim has been married to his wife
Virginia for 14 years and they are the
proud owners of two golden retrievers,
Alie and Makena. He also likes to fish

Do you know all the members at Meadowbrook and Chesdin? With the recent growth of our
~Laurel
Rothenberger
Club, we have added many new members to our Club family.
In an
effort to allow us to get to
know one another a little better, we are including a newsletter feature that will introduce
individuals to the membership. If you would like to be featured, or if you know others that
may be interested please let us know. Contact John Hall ([email protected]).
While in high school, Tim was active in
all sports, but was most fond of golf,
which he played all four years.
