SAINT JOAN OF ARC CATHOLIC CHURCH
OMAHA, NEBRASKA
Pastor’s Corner
This Lent beginning on Thursday, Feb. 18th, we
will offer “the Light is on” every Thursday during Lent
from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, followed by Benediction. On
Friday evenings, we will offer the Stations of the
Cross. Please be encouraged to attend these Lenten
rites in preparation for the Holy Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter). Since we will have the opportunity
for confession every Thursday and before 5:00 pm on Saturdays,
there will be no communal celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation as we had during Advent.
Jennifer Muckey has been hired to replace Jennifer Sheridan as
the Religious Education Coordinator. Jennifer will begin her work in
May. In the interim, the Leiningers will coordinate the program after
Mrs. Sheridan completes her work with Confirmation retreat in early
February. Thanks to Mrs. Sheridan for her efforts, and welcome to
Jennifer Muckey for taking on this new ministry.
Thanks go out to an anonymous donor, a couple, not SJA parishioners, who came to the rectory and gave me a check for $1000 to
use for the new dishwasher. This couple heard the announcement that
the second collection is being used to offset this expense, and they just
wanted to help. Thank you for being good stewards of your treasure!
It is understood that the Church is a sacred space that requires our
respect and reverence. This has always been the case. However, this
communal space is used for more than private worship. There are occasions when the school children need to practice for Mass ministry
whether it be reading, bringing up the gifts, etc. There are other occasions when events such as funeral vigils and wedding rehearsals
take place in the church. Mutual respect is expected on everyone’s
part as we strive to become better disciples of the Lord.
Have a good week,
Fr. Greg
Lenten Mini-Retreat, Saturday, February 27th
The SJA Ladies Guild will be sponsoring “Lent—Opening the Door to Mercy,” a miniretreat on Saturday, Feb 27th, from 8:30 am until noon. Sr. Jeanne O’Rourke RSM,
the Spiritual Guide at Mercy High School, will be the facilitator. The retreat will
begin with Mass at 8:30 am, followed by input, reflection, and sharing. This event
is open to all parishioners - middle and high school students are also welcome.
Cost is a good will offering to the Sisters of Mercy. Make plans now to attend.

Mass Intentions
St. Joan of Arc School Highlights
The students of Saint Joan of Arc will begin their Lenten journey this
Wednesday. It is a wonderful reminder to these students when they see
each other with the ashes in the shape of a cross on each other’s foreheads. The school will help the students understand the importance of
prayer, sacrifice, and almsgiving during the Lenten season. All classrooms will be encouraged to spend more time in prayer and the students
are making choices as to what they will “sacrifice” during Lent.
The students will again receive individual Rice Bowls. These bowls
should be kept at home during this Lenten Season and placed where the
student will see it on a regular basis. Our hope is that the Rice Bowl will
be a daily reminder to them that almsgiving is a very important part of
Lent.
Encourage your child to put part of his allowance or money earned from
babysitting or shoveling snow in the Rice Bowl. Offering up a small
amount of money weekly is a wonderful way to learn more about stewardship. Students will return the Rice Bowls March 21st through March 23rd
Kindergarten Round Up is scheduled for February 25, 2016, @ 6:00 p.m.
Any student who reaches 5 years of age by July 31st, 2016 is eligible.
Please pass the word about Saint Joan of Arc.

loved and accepted for the unique creation God made them to be. Class sessions
offered are as follows:

9:00-11:30 am 3-4 year old children— $105/mo.
