our third annual Holiday Gala on
December 13 at the Eau Gallie
Yacht Club. This was indeed our
best Gala ever! Thank you to our
members and friends who attended this fabulous evening of great
entertainment, food, and networking. There was an impressive photo feature of the Gala on
the social page in Florida Today
on December 22. A special thank

this initial scholarship, we received a challenge from two very
special ABWA members to award
a SECOND SBMEF Scholarship!!
These two members started this
challenge with their individual
contributions of $600 from Marty
Young, and $100 from our newest Oceanside member, Lyn Regas!!! This means that we only
require another $300 to achieve
awarding two $1,000 scholarship
awards this ABWA year. So I challenge all of our members and
friends to help us reach the milestone of just a few additional
dollars to get this second scholarship funded!!

Michael Everett
Mike Everett had always lived a charmed
life. Born in Vancouver, Canada and raised in
California, Everett left U.C. Santa Barbara five
quarters shy of earning a Bachelor's degree
in communications to pursue an interesting
invitation, the opportunity to try his luck as a
fashion model in Milan, Italy. Within weeks of
his arrival, he was chosen for worldwide campaigns with Gianni Versace and Enrico Coveri.
He later married, had two kids and moved to
Paris to live happily ever after, except that life
didn't go happily ever after.
Mike's career stalled in Paris. After depleting their funds and eventually selling all possessions, Mike and his family returned to
Miami on November 20, 2000. The entire net
worth of this family of four was whatever
would fit in the two suitcases they carried
with them. Broke, overweight, scared and
depressed, this is where Michael Everett's
story really begins.
On the advice of a friend, Mike took a job
in the mortgage industry as a loan officer. By
reinventing himself as a husband, father and
now sales professional, he was able to lift
himself out of a hole, and for the first time,
faced down true adversity and learned to
become a giver. Three years later, by November 20, 2003, he and his family owned two
homes, two cars, and two cats. As for those
same two suitcases, the family now takes
them out each year to raise a toast on November 20.
Michael Everett's message is both simple
and universal: It is through our times of struggle and adversity that we really learn who we
are, and what our true value is. As the economy has deteriorated both domestically and
globally, his desire to share the lessons of
reinvention have grown with the need for
them to be heard. He also asserts, however,
that within every crisis, there is opportunity.
For those who are willing to ask themselves
the tough questions and commit to doing the
right work, this "down" time could actually be
the best time of all to reinvent and emerge
better, smarter and happier!

Achieving a Healthy
Work/Life Balance
Ever since her sixteenth birthday, Ellen
worked. She spent most of her time in retail,
learning the ropes and figuring out how to
use her personality, talents and abilities to
perform and exceed expectations. She believes she was put on this earth to serve people.
In 2005 the idea crossed her mind that
she could create a business that would help
people create new businesses. She wasn’t
looking to become a tycoon CEO of many
companies, but desired to see others succeed. Her greatest satisfaction has been
watching these companies continue to grow
and succeed.
Ellen spent many years in the Leadership
and Development division of a large corporation, assisting store managers and human
resource managers perfect their skills and
grow their businesses further than they ever
expected. Many of her colleagues are now in
powerful positions because of the insight that
she shared, and the action plans that they
developed together.
In these times of ambiguous economy,
wide spread doubt and depression, and consistent doom and gloom news stories, people
need to hear that "It’s going to be okay".
When you create your independence and an
action plan that propels you into the next
adventure of your life, the rewards that await
you are priceless!
Ellen Little, President of Business Resolutions, is a re-invention expert. She will share
with you tips and techniques, the fuel to
change any part of your life. As a Business
Coach for many organizations, she will share
common practices that take an individual's
performance from satisfactory to sublime!

Oceanside Charter Chapter is again offering a $1000 scholarship to be awarded to a
deserving woman in May 2012. Please help
us spread the word to family members,
friends and business associates. In order to
be eligible for consideration, candidates
must be women who:
1. are citizens of the United States and
Brevard County, Florida;
2. will be college First or Second Year level
in August 2012;
3. are attending or have been accepted at
a licensed, accredited vocational-technical
school or community college authorized to
confer associate degrees;
4. have selected Business as her major;
5. have achieved a cumulative grade point
average (GPA) of 2.5 or better on a 4.0
scale.

Terri Friedlander
Born on Long Island, Terri has always
been surrounded by the water and loves the
beach, lighthouses and all things nautical.
She enjoyed many relaxing days on the Great
South Bay and even more frantic days in the
business world of the other nearby island,
Manhattan.
Terri has dabbled with a notable list of job
titles in her career. Yet, with all business
cards proudly dispersed, she has a passion
for inscribing words on the screen, and is a
published author. Her most recent writing
endeavor, Chasing Her Destiny, is currently
available at amazon.com and barnesand
noble.com, and will soon be in bookstores.
Whether writing manuals, novels, corporate
newsletters, human interest stories or creative lesson plans, Terri lives to write. But her
true happiness comes from being the mom
of her amazing daughter, who provides her
with love and inspiration every single day.
Terri is an avid reader of everything, including fiction and the daily newspaper. When
she finally shuts down her computer, she can
be found loving life in Melbourne with her
husband, Dan. Together, they enjoy a slice of
paradise by being out on the water boating,
but still find time to help out in the community. As Director of the Academy of International Business at Cocoa Beach High School,
Terri is fiercely proud of her students, and
offers them guidance and direction as Future
Business Leaders of America.
Terri has been lucky enough to see and
discover much of the United States and the
world. Traveling multiple times to Europe,
South America, Australia and Hong Kong, has
given her wonderful, life-changing experiences to share and to feed her imagination.
Chasing Her Destiny is Terri’s third contemporary novel which is loosely based on
her own desires to leave the fast lane of New
York City and start a family. It is dedicated to
all the brave birth mothers in the world and
to the innocent victims of the September 11th
terrorist attacks.
