Um die Entwicklungs- und Forschungsaktivitäten strategisch umzusetzen,
hat das Unternehmen beschlossen, einen Innovationsassistenten für ein
2-jähriges Projekt im Rahmen des oö. Förderprogramms „InnovationsassistentInnen/ -beraterInnen für KMU“ anzustellen. Unterstützung bekam
Innovationsassistent Roman Lugmayr M.Sc, Jungabsolvent der FH Wels
(Studiengang Bio- und Umwelttechnik) durch den erfahrenen externen Berater Mag. Paul Voithofer (www.voithofer.com).
Ein wesentlicher Teil des Projekts umfasste die Überprüfung verschiedener
Anlagen um den Rotteprozess und das Endprodukt zu verbessern. So wurden kleine Kompostanlagen bis hin zu großen mechanisch-biologischen
Abfallbehandlungsanlagen (MBA‘s) in Großbritannien, Slowenien, Polen,
Tunesien, Südtirol und Österreich überprüft. Durch regelmäßiges Reinigen
der Belüftungsrinnen und –düsen konnte die Belüftungseffizienz um bis zu
100% gesteigert werden. Allein durch die verbesserten Betriebszeiten von
Ventilatoren sowie saubere Belüftungsrinnen konnte eine MBA mit 50.000
Jahrestonnen die Energiekosten um bis zu 27% reduzieren. Zudem konnten
bis zu 60% der CO2-äquivalenten Emissionen vermieden werden.

des Deponievolumens mit der Belüftungstechnik verbessert. Weiters wurde ein österreichweiter Feldversuch auf verschiedenen Flächen mit Kompost-Tee durchgeführt, wozu auch eine eigene Teemaschine entwickelt
wurde. Eine klare Verbesserung der Produktqualität und die Einsparung
von Chemieeinsatz zählten zu den erfreulichen Ergebnissen.
Der Coach, Paul Voithofer, begeistert: „Das InnovationsassistentInnen-Programm ermöglichte es Compost Systems besondere strategische Themen
anzugehen, die sich nicht unbedingt in wenigen Monaten rechnen können.
Die Erfolge zeigen, dass dieser Mut wirklich belohnt wurde! Auch Roman
Lugmayr hat vom Projekt sehr profitiert!“
Zukünftig wird Roman Lugmayr weitere Forschungsprojekte leiten, damit
eine kontinuierliche Verbesserung gewährleistet ist und neue Erkenntnisse in dem Bereich gewonnen werden. Dieser dazu abschließend: „Es freut
mich, dass ich in diesem spannenden und abwechslungsreichen Innovationsprojekt einen positiven Beitrag zum Umweltschutz leisten konnte.“
Die Compost Systems GmbH mit Sitz in Wels ist ein international
ausgerichtetes Ingenieurbüro mit weitreichendem Know-how in

To strategically implement research and development activities, the company decided to employ an Innovation Assistant for a two-year project within the framework of the Upper Austrian programme „Innovation Assistants
and Advisors for SMEs“. Innovation Assistant Roman Lugmayr M.Sc, a
recent graduate of the FH Wels (degree programme Bio- and Environmental
Technology) received guidance from experienced external consultant Mag.

An essential part of the project involved a review of various plants to improve the rotting process and the end product. Everything from small composting plants to large mechanical-biological waste treatment plants (MBAs)
were examined in the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Poland, Tunisia, South
Tyrol and Austria. With regular cleaning of the ventilation channels and
nozzles, the aeration efficiency could be increased by up to 100%. Simply
through improved operating times of fans as well as clean ventilation channels, an MBA processing 50,000 tons per year was able to reduce energy
costs by up to 27%. In addition, up to 60% of the CO2 equivalent emissions
could be avoided.

field test was carried out on different surfaces with compost tea, for which
a special tea machine was developed. A clear improvement of product
quality and the reduction of the use of chemicals were among the positive
results.
Coach Paul Voithofer enthused, „The Innovation Assistant programme allowed Compost Systems to tackle specific strategic issues that would not
necessarily be expected in just a few months. The successes show that the
courage this project took was really worthwhile! Even Roman Lugmayr has
benefited greatly from the project.“
In the future, Roman Lugmayr will conduct further research projects so that
continuous improvement is ensured and new insights can be attained in
this field. As he concluded, „I am pleased that I was able to make a positive
contribution to environmental protection in this exciting and diverse innovation project.“
