to his incredible story as a WWII soldier fighting in the forests of his family’s ancient homeland. The Mushroom Picker chronicles an astonishing journey in a multi-media production hailed
by the Smithsonian Institute as “Extraordinary. Impossible to forget.”

Back by popular demand, it’s an interactive art installation of YOUR ART. We’ll provide live
music, hooks on the walls, and glasses. You bring that bottle leftover from Nordic Fest, and a
piece of your own art to hang on the wall - or just come and enjoy, as the exhibit creates itself
with each new artwork.

of fiction (plot, dialogue, character, conflict, place) and explore
the line between fiction and memoir in a series of readings, inclass exercises, and friendly small-group discussions. Ultimately,
we will craft our own short stories, workshop them in our friendly
small-group setting, and read them aloud on the final night of the

About Upstart Crow Theatreworks
The idea for Upstart Crow Theatreworks was hatched in the fall of 2002 after staging a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with a cast of Decorah-area children. Seven years and 17 productions later, Upstart Crow offerings still have as their foundation a respect for the creative impulse within each of us, and an understanding that
the skills practiced in theatre are the same as those useful in the life: good listening, an understanding of ourselves, compassion for others, and a healthy sense of play!
Productions: The classical, contemporary, and original plays staged by Upstart Crow are chosen with an eye and
ear tuned to good literature, “language plays” that are accessible, yet challenging and interesting to performers
and audiences of all ages.
Classes: Designed to encourage teamwork, creative thinking and spontaneity, Upstart Crow classes are a great way
for students of all ages to learn through play.

for CU/Boulder and Luther College, among others. After ten years as a managing Core Artist/Education Director for the
Commonweal Theatre Co, Kristen founded Upstart Crow Theatreworks in Decorah, where she now makes her home with
her son Simon.
