YOURSAY ACTION PLAN
Page 6
Following the ‘Yoursay’ Workplace Culture Survey in 2011, each facility within the
SWSLHD developed an action plan to focus on three recommendations identified
by staff within their respective facilities. Bankstown Lidcombe Hospital identified
three areas which included communication, developing a positive relationship with
staff and senior managers in the workplace and the work environment specifically
looking at approval processes for routine decisions.
Specific actions were developed for each of the three areas by the Executive, and
a Working Party has now been developed to provide wider consultation. Strategies
that you may already be aware of include the implementation of Studer
Communication with Purpose, displaying hospital newsletters in wards and
departments throughout the hospital and the distribution of the delegations manual
via email to all Bankstown Lidcombe employees.
Staff are encouraged to provide feedback or suggestions to their manager or
members of the YourSay Working Party.
Members include Scott McGrath (HR Manager), Kerry Parsons (Community
Participation Coordinator), Jo Stroud (NUM Ward 2A), Rachel Tran (Outpatient
Service Manager), Phillip Emder (HOD Paediatrics) and Jenny Jacka (HOD
Physiotherapy).
NSW HEALTH CODE OF CONDUCT
The revised NSW Health Code of Conduct has been issued by the Ministry of
Health. The Code of Conduct applies to all employers, contractors, volunteers,
students, researchers and persons undertaking or delivering training or education in
the hospital.

Surgical and Procedural Care in South West Sydney
A Planning process has been undertaken for surgical and procedural care in South
West Sydney. Three planning forums held in 2011 and 2012 identified a range of
service development directions that SWSLHD should pursue. These directions have
been outlined in the Consultation Draft planning document — Surgical and
Procedural Care in South West Sydney — Service Development Directions to 2021.
Over the next three months, Carol Farmer, A/General Manager, in conjunction with
David Blomberg, Director of Surgery and David Gilbert, Director of Anesthetics will
work with facility to assist in this consultation process. Carol Farmer will be reporting
on progress at monthly GMs meetings

BANKSTOWN LIDCOMBE HOSTS ENDOSCOPY WORKSHOP
VOLUME X, ISSUE X
Page 8
On Tuesday 1 May 2012, Bankstown Lidcombe Hospital hosted a one day
Endoscopy workshop (Barrx Academia) Attendees included Endoscopists from
around Australia and New Zealand.
The workshop provided an informative session around current management
options for Barretts Oesophagus. Patients with Barrett’s Oesophagus have an
increased risk of developing oesophageal cancer. Even with aggressive
therapy, the 5 year survival rate is only 17%, according to the American Cancer
Society. Furthermore, the incidence of oesophageal cancer is rising faster than
breast cancer, prostate cancer and melanoma.
The workshop also provided practical and interactive sessions, whereby
participants were able to operate on animal oesophagus’. Thanks to
sponsorship by Device Technologies and Pentax Australia, the workshop was
able to run a live video link of procedure cases being performed within the
theatre.
