PNC
The PNC Foundation recognizes that learning in a child's early years is essential for their
long-term success, and is pleased to return as a second-year on-air sponsor of Sesame
Street. With principal funding provided by The PNC Financial Services Group (pnc.com),
the PNC Foundation supports early childhood education through PNC Grow Up Great and
PNC Crezca con Éxito, a comprehensive bilingual, corporate-based school readiness
program.
Through the 10-year, $100 million initiative, which focuses on underserved children, PNC
provides the leadership, advocacy, funding, tools and volunteers to help educate parents,
caregivers and communities on how to prepare young children for school and life. Research
shows that equal access to quality preschool programs can result in long-term benefits for
our children, society, workforce and economy.
Since its launch in 2004, PNC Grow Up Great has partnered with Sesame Workshop to help
increase awareness of the value of quality early childhood education. In the process,
Sesame Workshop created bilingual, multiple media “Happy, Healthy Ready for School” kits
for the program. More than 650,000 kits have been distributed for free. The kits provide
helpful tips and fun activities for children and families to turn everyday moments into
learning opportunities.
In 2008, with major support from the PNC Foundation, Sesame Workshop launched “One
World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure.” The planetarium show with Elmo, Big Bird and Hu
Hu Zhu was designed to introduce children to the wonders of astronomy. As children
explore the sun, moon and stars, they are also learning how people all over the world are
connected and share many similar interests.
Working with Sesame Workshop, PNC Grow Up Great continues to expand its school
readiness initiative by addressing relevant issues in early education. The private-public
collaboration between the two organizations was singled out by the White House in its fall
2009 call for increased emphasis for science and math education. In addition, Grow Up
Great is introducing innovative initiatives in science, math and the arts to new markets
served by PNC.
The PNC Foundation has distributed $25 million in grants to early childhood education
centers and other programs that support early childhood education as part of Grow Up
Great. Through PNC arts and science grants, teachers receive professional development
training and children gain opportunities they may not otherwise have to broaden their
experience and knowledge.
In 2009, PNC launched Grow Up Great with Science, an initiative which supports 14
regional science centers and non-profit organizations to enhance early science education.
The funding enables the organizations to help teachers create classroom activities for
children and to extend free visits to the centers’ interactive exhibits to families. PNC has
also supported many arts and cultural institutions to create programming for preschoolers.
Studies have shown that an arts-rich environment helps children succeed in school and
improves cognitive learning skills.
PNC employees have volunteered more than 142,000 hours since the initiative’s launch to
help young children succeed in school and life. PNC encourages employee involvement
through a progressive policy that permits 40 hours a year of paid time off to volunteer.
PNC leverages the influence of its executives with the corporate community, policymakers
and other key influencers to elevate public/private discussions about the importance of
access to quality early childhood education. PNC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
James E. Rohr serves as honorary chair of the Pennsylvania Early Learning Investment
Commission along with Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell. Made up of business
leaders from across the state, the commission seeks support for public investment in early
learning. For his many efforts in support of early childhood education, Sesame Workshop
honored Jim Rohr and PNC with its Corporate Leadership Award in 2007.
In addition, PNC Grow Up Great has assembled an Advisory Council of early childhood
experts from academia, medical professions and not-for-profit leaders who provide issue
expertise and guidance for the program. Along with Sesame Workshop, PNC works in
partnership with Family Communications, Inc., producer of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,
and Head Start, as well as local organizations across its multi-state region.

EARTH’S BEST®
Earth’s Best was founded on the belief that babies should begin their lives eating
wholesome, pure foods harvested by organic farming practices that help to enrich the
earth's soil and water supplies for future generations to come. That belief still holds true
today as Earth’s Best celebrates 25 years of nurturing babies the purest way.
At its inception Earth’s Best consisted of only six jarred food varieties. Over time, the
brand has grown to include a complete line of organic infant foods all made without the use
of potentially harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides including infant formulas with
DHA and ARA, cereals, over 60 jar varieties in single and unique flavor combinations for all
stages of a baby’s life, plus teething biscuits and juice. The brand’s more recent
introductions include Earth’s Best Sesame Street toddler foods, baby body care products
made with organic ingredients, earth-friendly Chlorine Free Diapers and Wipes and a line
of all-natural home cleaning products. With such an extensive product line, Earth’s Best
helps ensure that we nurture babies from head to toe with products that are not only
“better for baby,” but better for the environment.
Earth’s Best Supports the “Healthy Habits for Life™” Initiative - 2005
With a strong belief that organic foods are best for children of all ages, Earth's Best
introduced a line of Sesame Street organic toddler products in partnership with Sesame
Workshop and their “Healthy Habits for Life” initiative, providing a great start to a
lifetime of good health. This campaign utilizes a coalition of partners and an advisory
board of health, nutrition, fitness and education experts to develop and distribute multimedia, age-appropriate information targeted to preschoolers and their caregivers,
empowering them with knowledge and positive attitudes about their bodies, while providing
tools to encourage a great start to a lifetime of good health. The Earth's Best Sesame
Street line launched with breakfast cereals and snacks and later expanded to include
organic soups, whole grain pasta meals and frozen foods. All Earth's Best Sesame Street
products are specially formulated for toddlers with iron, zinc and six B vitamins.
Earth’s Best further supports the “Healthy Habits for Life” program in-store via
packaging, point of sale materials, pallet programs, in-store demos, as well as a specific
destination of product and nutritional information at www.earthsbest.com.
All Earth’s
Best Sesame Street packaging contains fun, educational activities for children and proudly
displays the “Healthy Habits for Life” icon. Brochures are distributed with activities for
children and tips for parents on how to encourage healthy eating habits for their children
and the entire family. The Earth’s Best website promotes further the benefits of living a
healthy life style and making the right food choices. Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit
education organization behind Sesame Street, puts the proceeds it receives from sales of
its products right back into Sesame Street and its other project for children at home and
around the world.

eating into your family’s daily life visit www.earthsbest.com.

The Good Egg Project
As part of the Good Egg Project, America’s egg farmers are proud to sponsor Sesame
Street and its mission to educate children. The Good Egg Project is an effort by
America’s egg farmers and the American Egg Board to educate people about modern egg
farming, encourage participation from families in their communities and help the hungry by
donating eggs to America’s food banks. The Good Egg Project also aims to educate families
about how eggs get from the farm to their breakfast tables along with the many health
benefits of eating eggs.
In an effort to fight hunger, America’s egg farmers are asking people to take the Good
Egg Project pledge to “Eat good. Do good everyday.” In addition to the millions of eggs
America’s egg farmers donate to the hungry annually, for every pledge made, America’s
egg farmers will also donate one egg to Feeding America, up to one million eggs!
The Incredible Edible Egg
For generations, America’s egg farmers have been committed to caring for animals and
providing nutritious and affordable eggs to consumers. Eggs are all-natural and, at an
average of just 13 cents a piece, eggs are one of the most affordable sources of highquality protein and deliver a big nutrient bang for the buck. The high-quality protein in the
incredible edible egg provides the mind and body energy families need to start their day
off right.
Visit www.GoodEggProject.org to learn more about modern egg farming and how to give
back to the community and live more healthfully. Families can also visit
www.incredibleegg.org for kid-friendly recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
