the undergraduate members moved into our
fantastic new facility. Seven of the nine alumni
board members were in attendance to help
facilitate the process.

REORGANIZATION PLAN
The chapter has been in reorganization status
since November of last year. A committee of
Delta Upsilon International Fraternity (DUIF)
staff members is working actively with the
alumni and undergraduates to revamp much
of our programming and operating procedures.
The chapter will continue to operate in that
manner until such time as DUIF feels it
is capable of operating successfully on its
own. Until that time, the chapter house will
be alcohol-free for all members and guests,
including alumni.
CONSTRUCTION
While the bulk of the construction is complete,
there are a number of items that will be
completed this fall. Most notably, that includes
some finish work related to the first floor
bedrooms, the alumni room, the lounge
(brother room), and the exterior landscaping.
FUNDRAISING
We are currently less than $65,000 away from
our goal of $3 million. Now is the time to make
a final push to achieve that objective. Thank
you to all of the donors listed on pages 2-3. If
you have not made a pledge yet, we urge you

HOUSE DIRECTOR
Martin Cram was recently named the fulltime director of chapter programming and
facility management. He will work as the
onsite coordinator of chapter educational
programming, student advisement and facility
management. Martin has a bachelor’s degree
in family studies and human services from
Kansas State University and a master’s degree
in college student personnel administration
from the University of Central Missouri. He
has previous experience as a residence hall

SECURITY PROGRAM
The new facility will have a variety of new security
features, including fingerprint access and video
monitors. We have also contracted with off-duty
police officers to provide additional security on
weekends, football games, etc.
PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
We have contracted with Community Association
Management to provide a comprehensive property
management solution for the chapter. Services
include cleaning of common areas in the chapter
house,
assistance
with
move-in/move-out
procedures, security deposit assessments, etc.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER HOUSING
All associate members, primarily freshmen, will be
required to live in the residence halls for at least one
semester. Longer term, we expect that to be for a
period of one full year. After that, members will be
expected to live in the house through their junior year.
We believe this model will be beneficial to both the
new members and those living in the chapter house.
We have a great new facility and are putting
programs in place to make sure the chapter is
positioned for long-term success. We hope you
can drop by for a tour of the chapter house at an
upcoming home football game, and we look forward
to the official dedication in the spring.

Chuck Hatley ’80 Finds Importance
in Giving Back to Missouri Chapter
Chapter Advisor Supports Capital Campaign, Volunteers Time
O
ne of the defining undergraduate moments for Chuck
Hatley ’80 was moving out of his freshman dorm and
into Delta Upsilon. “It was what I was looking for,” Chuck
says. “Great guys, great social experience, with a unified
purpose. It really enhanced my college experience.”
From there on out, he fondly recalls many great times,
ranging from football game days to DU social events.
One memory in particular was with Randy Farmer ’79.
He was in many of Chuck’s classes and even helped
spark his interest in dental school. “He was a good leader
and well respected by all of the brothers,” Chuck says.
Alongside Randy, all men of DU and the organization
truly prepared him for life after the University of Missouri.
Chuck and his wife, Robyn.
“Living with a diverse group of guys and learning to balance academics with social events
were so important in the maturation process,” Chuck says. “To this day, I use skills in my
practice I developed in learning to get along with everyone.”
Because of his wonderful experience fostered at the Missouri Chapter, he now serves as
the chapter advisor, and thoroughly enjoys his time spent with DU brothers. “My favorite
part of chapter advisor is getting to personally know the members,” Chuck says. “I look
and listen, and realize things aren’t all that different from when I was in college.”
Chuck also feels passionate about supporting the Building Our Next 100 Years
campaign. “The previous structure had long been overdue for a replacement,” Chuck
says. “I think it’s important for the new guys to have the best living environment possible
so they can have the positive experiences I had as a member of DU.” He encourages
all alumni to contribute something to the campaign—whether it is through a donation or
by volunteering your time. “Even a visit to the house to meet and encourage younger
brothers is beneficial. They are all solid young men with a bright future.”
Chuck and his wife, Robyn, live in Columbia, Mo. They have four daughters: Jennifer,

Delta Upsilon Continues the Tradition of Success
MISSOURI CHAPTER NAMED TOP
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Nine undergraduate members attended the Delta
Upsilon International Fraternity (DUIF) Leadership
Institute July 30 to August 2 in Atlanta, Ga. Three
alumni members were also in attendance. The
Missouri Alumni Association was recognized as
the top alumni organization for the past year.

We continue to work with DUIF and the alumni
board toward completion of our reorganization
plan. This fall, we will be one of several DU
chapters who pilot the new eight-week associate
member program.
RECRUITMENT
Our summer recruitment program resulted in
the signing of 33 new associate members. The

PARENT ORIENTATION
The semi-annual new parent orientation was held
at the Mizzou Student Center on August 21. The
associate member pinning ceremony was held at
the conclusion of the meeting and guests were
then invited to tour and have lunch at the new
chapter house.
FALL EVENTS
This fall has been packed with activities!
Homecoming was on October 10. We were
partnered with Tri Delta and Kappa Sigma for
this year’s activities. Additionally, initiation was on
Sunday, October 18. We enjoyed seeing familiar
faces at both of these events.

Fall Tour Schedule
Announced
T
o accommodate anticipated interest in
visiting the new chapter house, a series
of tours has been scheduled in conjunction
with each home football game. Specifically,
tours will be conducted by alumni volunteers
and undergraduate chapter members
for any interested alumni, parents, and
guests beginning two hours before and
after each home football game. Given the
tight construction schedule, and University
restrictions on chapter house access and
usage, these functions will be initially limited
to tours and will be strictly alcohol free. We
hope to expand our event planning at the
chapter house in the future once we have
our operating plan better established.

Plans for an official dedication/grand
opening are currently underway for a
weekend during the spring 2016 semester.
