God so loved the world that he gave his only Son.
— John 3:16a
LIFE IN THE TRINITY
The name of the Trinity is, without a doubt, the most familiar sacred name to us. We
speak it every time we make the sign of the cross, and it forms the heart of our Creed. Trinity
Sunday is a good day, however, to stop and reflect on the unique role of each of the three persons
we name so often in the Trinity and in our own lives. When we celebrate the Eucharist on Sunday, we come together as
the Body of Christ through our baptism, and through the power of the Holy Spirit we offer the whole prayer of the Mass
to God the Father. This presence of the Trinity does not stop when we leave church on Sunday. We are—always and
everywhere—members of the Body, and every thing we do as members of that Body is empowered by the Holy Spirit,
all of it offered to the glory of our loving Father.
Take a moment each day this week to reflect on how the persons of the Trinity were present to you during the day,
and how other people came to see the presence of the Trinity in your witness to the Good News.

Mexico Mission Trip
Update
Our youth group is taking
24 participants to Tijuana,
Mexico for a mission trip June 28 to July 6th. We will
be helping out at an orphanage, shelter and feeding
the hungry. Please pray for us.
Our Maria’s Mexican Tacos Fundraiser brought in
$1300 to help with our transportation costs. Thanks
so much to Maria and all of the patrons that dined
there that day.
Thank you also to the Knights who generously gave
us the opportunity to operate the Home Show
parking. We earned $800 towards our transportation
costs. We are so blessed to have such generous
parishioners and ministries.

"REFLECTIONS OF THE PERFECTIONS OF GOD"
When my family or friends visit from Ireland one of the places I love to
share is Virginia City, Nevada. It's an old mining town that gave its name
to an old Errol Flynn western movie "Virginia City. St. Mary's in the Mountains is
one of the most beautiful Catholic Churches in the world. As you drive over the
mountains from Carson City, it's 157 foot steeple dominates the skyline
giving Glory to God. This beautiful brick Church was blessed on October
23, 1870 and formally dedicated after a fire on September 16, 1877. Fr.
Bouchard, S.J. gave the opening sermon in which he paid tribute to the
tireless energy and zeal of Fr. Patrick Manogue. "Fr. Manogue has built himself a
monument which I hope might be as enduring as the mountains which surround it."
Father Patrick Manogue was born in Kilkenny, Ireland. As a young man he
joined the gold rush in 1854 in the Mother Lode. With the money he made from
mining, he entered the seminary in Paris and was ordained in 1861. That following
summer he was sent by Bishop O'Connell, Bishop of Grass Valley to the territory of
Nevada. For twenty years he ministered in Nevada but especially Virginia City. In
those days, he was a giant of a man, 6' 3" and 250 pounds. My friend Thomas, the
bartender from Cork, Ireland, who works at the Delta Saloon (famous for its suicide
table) can tell you many stories about Fr. Patrick Manogue. Fr. Patrick use to go around the saloons
and collect the miners wages that their wives and families badly needed before they lost or drank it
all . . . . . . .Fr. Patrick never lost a fight.
On January 16, 1881, Fr. Patrick Manogue was consecrated Co-Adjutor Bishop of Grass
Valley. He later became the first Bishop of Sacramento. "For more than twenty years I have been
roaming over the vast and arid plains of Nevada . . . .the mountain shepherd in the midst of wild
scenery, is rarely unhappy in his pastoral duties . . . . . The beauties of nature are dim reflections of
the perfections of God . . . .". (Commencement address by Bishop Manogue to the graduating class
of St. Mary's College, 1883.)
St. Mary's in the Mountain is a spiritual journey worth taking. A visit to Virginia City Cemetery
is a stark reminder that miners seldom lived beyond thirty years. A visit to the saloons and the clubs
show us that temptation is never far away.
God Bless,
Fr. Mike

La Santísima Trinidad
15 de junio de 2014
Tanto amó Dios al mundo,
que le entregó a su Hijo único.
— Juan 3:16a
