How To Con vert a Towel Rail
How To Con vert To E lectric
 After unpacking your new rail, fit the blanking plug and air vent correctly
in the top of the ladder rail.
 Turn the towel rail upside down allowing you access to the two tapings
at the bottom. Make sure these tapings are clean and free of debris.
 Using a funnel empty the required amount of Arley Thermo Oil
(as shown in the Loco information grid) into the towel warmer
Water
Level
 With the funnel still in place slowly fill the towel rail with the required
amount of tap water. After each litre, tilt the towel rail to the left & right,
as this will help remove any trapped air.
 As the water begins to rise you want to fill up to approximately half of
the bottom bar, as shown in Fig1. This is to allow for expansion when
the towel rail is in operation.
 Now the towel rail is filled, insert the electric element and the blanking
plug into the desired side.
 The towel rail is now ready for fitting and connecting to a fused spur
electric supply*.

What is E urop ean Stan dard E N 9 9 7 : 2 0 0 3
The current European Standard relating to WC’s is BS EN 997:2003 (WC pans and WC suites
with integral trap). This standard has the status of a British Standard.
EN997:2003 outlines the requirements for WC’s from the perspective of construction and
performance, emphasising functional criteria. Two classes of WC are identified within the
standard. Class 1 covers suites for sale in mainland Europe, and a number of the tests are
different from the UK requirements. Class 2 covers WC’s sold in the UK.
Specific flush volumes are listed for the two classes of WC and are summarised as follows:
• Class 1 - A nominal flush volume of four, five, six, seven or nine litres.
• Class 2 - A maximum flush volume of six litres for single flush WC’s. A maximum flush volume
of six litres and a reduced flush no greater than two-thirds of this volume for dual-flush WCs.
Horizontal outlet (HO), what does it mean? What are the features and benefits?
Horizontal Outlet describes the angle (horizontal) at which the outlet pipe leaves the back of
the WC pan. It enables easier fixing of plastic outlet pipes and is adaptable/more flexible as the
pipe work can be positioned in a variety of different ways, depending on the space available, the
location of the soil stack and the position of the WC in relation to the external wall. This gives
the builder and the customer greater choice in where to put the toilet.
P trap s an d S trap s - w hat does it mean ? What’ s the dif f eren ce?
P and S simply describe the shape of the trap. In general, an ‘S’ trap goes out through the floor
and a ‘P’ trap through the back wall.
What is IO (internal overflow) and how does it work?
Overflow pipes were traditionally positioned so that any water leaking from a cistern could
escape by dripping onto the floor or outside the building. This was a requirement under UK
Water Byelaws to prevent waste of water: the principle was that a dripping overflow pipe was
more likely to be noticed and the problem rectified. Internal Overflow is a system that allows any
overflowing water from the cistern to be discharged into the toilet bowl. It is now allowed under
Water Regulations January 2001.
