WHAT IS PROJECT HUNGER?
Project Hunger is an annual food drive challenge engaging high school participation across St. Mary’s Food Bank
Alliance’s service area. Area high schools compete against each other in collecting food and funds. Awards are
given based on most meals per capita. The food collected will benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance and the hungry
families in Arizona.
HOW DO STUDENTS PARTICIPATE?
Staff advisors from high school clubs or student organizations can register their high school food drive at
www.FirstFoodBank.org/PROJECTHUNGER or via email addressed to [email protected].
Student organizations within a high school can combine efforts to reach their school challenge goals. Uniting of all
student efforts to raise the most food and funds possible provides hunger relief for so many in their community.
WHERE DOES THE FOOD GO?
Right back into the local community! St. Mary’s partners with more than 300 agencies in our service area. These
partners distribute emergency food boxes, as well as hosting mobile pantries. The donated canned food is used to
make up these boxes to meet specific USDA nutritional requirements. 1 in 4 children, 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 7
Arizonans who make up Arizona’s food insecure population will benefit from your donations.

FOOD DRIVE CHECKLIST
1. Register your food drive at one of the following:
a. www.FirstFoodBank.org/PROJECTHUNGER
b. Via email to [email protected]
c. Via phone at 602-343-3173 or 602-343-3159
i. Provide all information asked for to ensure timely food bank follow-up, appropriate
box delivery and donation pick-up.
2. Get your food drive boxes
a. Pick them up at the Kick-Off Event!
b. If three or less food drive boxes are needed, we request that schools pick-up the boxes and
return them to the food bank. This saves significant staff and transportation dollars, which can
then be used to purchase additional food for those in need.
c. Verify how our driver can access your donor location with a 24ft. box truck.
i. Please contact our food drive hotline 602-343-3173 and we will work with our
Transportation/Logistics team to help you determine or reschedule an alternate
transport method.
3. Food Drive Logistics
a. Do not overload food drive boxes - 3/4 full is optimal. We can always deliver more boxes if
they are getting full.
b. Keep in touch with our staff if there are any concerns or changes during the food drive.
4. Schedule a pick-up of your donated items
a. Contact the food drive team if your pick-up day hasn’t already been scheduled.
i. Reconsider if it’s possible for you to now bring in the donation rather than use a large
truck.
b. Confirm the pick-up and box count 1 to 2 days before the scheduled food drive pick-up date.
i. It is very difficult to schedule or reschedule last minute drop-offs or pick-ups, so we ask
that all food drive requests be received in our food drive office by 2 p.m. two days
before the scheduled delivery or pick-up.
5. Pick-up Logistics
a. Ensure the food drive boxes are staged in a centralized location accessible to our drivers in
order to facilitate pick-up of donation. Please ensure that there is elevator access for the pickup of food drive items if they will be staged above or below the ground floor.
b. If you will be using pallets for the food drive, please locate the pallets on a floor surface that
won’t be damaged by our equipment. (2 wheelers, hand jacks, etc.)
c. If you choose to drop off your full food drive boxes please contact Brittne @602-343-3173 to
schedule a drop off time.
