alexander and the terrible, horrible,
no good, very bad day 10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.
K–3 October 22, 2013 | TheaterWorksUSA.com
Have you ever had a really rotten day? Alexander has... He wakes up with gum in his
hair, he trips on a skateboard, and then he accidentally drops his sweater in the sink—all
before breakfast! Alexander can already tell—it’s going to be a terrible, horrible, no good,
very bad day!
Alexander’s day continues to go downhill as he gets smushed in the car on the way to
school, his teacher doesn’t like his drawing of an invisible castle, and Paul doesn’t want
to be his friend anymore. There’s no dessert for lunch, there’s lima beans for dinner,
and even worse: there’s kissing on television! It’s enough to make you want to move to
Australia!
Laugh and sing along with Alexander’s misadventures in this hilarious musical, featuring book and lyrics by Judith Viorst, author of the best-selling classic book. Discover
along with Alexander that sometimes, everyone has a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad
day.
All programs last approximately 60 minutes; teaching materials available.
Tickets are $6.50, with every 18th ticket free of charge.

henry & mudge
10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.
PreK–3 December 6, 2013 | TheaterWorksUSA.com
Moving from the city to a new house in the country can be tough. Just ask Henry, who
can’t find a playmate in his new neighborhood! Luckily, he’s got Mudge, a great big,
182-pound canine buddy, with whom he can share all kinds of adventures!
Henry discovers that having a pet is a big responsibility—they need to be fed, they
need to be taken out for walks, and of course they need lots of love and playtime! And
when the dog is as big as Mudge is, they also need good training. Henry teaches his new
friend to sit, heel, and shake his hand, but rolling over is one trick Henry just can’t seem
to teach Mudge, no matter how hard he tries.
When Henry’s cousin Annie comes for a visit, Mudge is so charmed by her that he
finally rolls over at her command! Henry thinks Mudge must love Annie more than him,
because the dog only does the trick for her. Very upset, Henry runs away into the cold
dark woods to find adventures on his own. Mudge follow’s the boy’s scent into the forest—he really does love Henry and doesn’t want to be without him.
Will the two friends be reunited? Find out in this Theatreworks musical, based on
the best-selling series of books by Cynthia Rylant.
All programs last approximately 60 minutes; teaching materials available.
Tickets are $6.50, with every 18th ticket free of charge.

charlotte’s web
10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.
K–5 February 25, 2014 | TheaterWorksUSA.com
Theatreworks’ production of Charlotte’s Web is based on E.B. White’s loving story of
the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte.
Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, a fine writer
and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman—she will create a “miracle.”
Spinning the words “Some Pig” in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only
makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever. This treasured tale,
featuring mad-cap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the
true meaning of friendship.
All programs last approximately 60 minutes; teaching materials available.
Tickets are $6.50, with every 18th ticket free of charge.

peter pan
10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.
K–5 April 10, 2014
Peter Pan is an adapted version of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale created by John Caird and
Trevor Nunn. This touring production explores the journey of a group of children in
turn-of-the-century London who use their imaginations to reenact the
story of Peter Pan. This story empowers children to create their own
world of make-believe. As the children fly to Neverland and escape
the evil Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, they recognize the importance
of friendship as well as the value of being part of a family. This production encourages children to let their imaginations take “flight” and to create their
own adventures using household objects as props and puppets as characters.

Last year the BCPA was home to 534 different events and activities. That’s almost three
performances, rehearsals, meetings, classes, dances and/or pancake breakfasts every
two days. For these activities, BCPA patrons came from 16,000 households, 527 Illinois
communities, 39 states, and two foreign countries, contributing more than $5 million to
our local economy. Audiences saw six sold out shows on the BCPA’s Mainstage series last
year—a record number surpassing the number of sold-out events presented in the BCPA’s
previous six seasons combined! What’s more, the BCPA also enriched the lives of almost
10,000 area K–12 students with the Student Spotlight Series and a variety of other arts
education programs.
And, thanks to you, this year will be even better.
