Expanding Graduate Medical Education in Tampa Bay
We continue to invest in Florida’s healthcare through training the next generation
of clinicians to help meet the growing physician shortages. Our Graduate Medical
Education (GME) offerings expanded with the opening of the Internal Medicine
Residency at Brandon Regional Hospital. We successfully recruited Program Directors
from several prestigious university programs including the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio State,
and the University of Kentucky to help support this growth.
Brandon Regional Hospital’s Internal Medicine
residents receive their white coats in late June
2015 to kick off the program’s opening. More
than 889 applications were received for the 20
slots available in the program’s first year.
For 2016, we received approval to add three additional programs including one at
Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. This will bring our total to 23 programs, training
334 physicians in needed specialties.

ER environment, and the All Children’s
Specialty Physician neonatologists
are now staffing the NICUs at Brandon and Medical Center
of Trinity. Brandon’s Pediatric Service continues to grow and
features a pediatric ER, a 15-bed pediatric unit and an 8-bed
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Pediatric general surgeons
from All Children’s Specialty Physicians support this program as
do pediatric specialists in anesthesia, cardiology, critical care
intensivist, neurology and pulmonary medicine.
We couple collaborative care with advanced technology to offer
patients the latest neurological treatments, from epilepsy and brain
tumors to stroke. All of our hospitals are designated Stroke Centers
with Northside Hospital earning Comprehensive Stroke Center

Hospital certainly provides this. I had my annual mammogram at
Englewood Community Hospital. The staff was friendly, professional and
efficient. They did a great job making me feel comfortable while providing
excellent care. We are fortunate to have these services available in our

ABOVE: Oak Hill Hospital is now in the second year of the
GME Residency Program with 20 active residents. In the
third year we will have 15 positions granted for a total of
35 active residents on campus, adding great value to the
hospital staff as they gain knowledge and experience in
their chosen field.
LEFT: Construction is now in the final phases of the new $20
Million North Tower expansion project. The third floor will
feature the Maternity Suites at Oak Hill. The construction of
the third and fourth floors represents an investment by HCA
of over $70 million in just the past few years. The North
Tower offers advanced surgical suites, post-operative,
intensive care and Heart Institute Units. The Maternity
Suites will make their debut in the Summer of 2016.

More than 100 local firefighters turned out for Palms of
Pasadena’s hosted fire drill. Because equipment causes so
much damage, it is unusual for the firefighters to get to do this
type of practice in an actual building, but the hospital opened
their doors prior to starting a $10 million renovation project.
