We combine decades
of
experience
with
the latest research
in equine nutrition to
continually craft better
ways to formulate our
products to feed equine
companions.
We’re passionate about protecting your horse’s well-being, so
we created Sentinel®, a full line of nutrient release formula feeds
to meet your horse’s developmental and activity requirements.
Because it’s our passion to protect yours.
SENTINEL® HORSE FEEDS
Sentinel® is a result of pressure-cooking, combining moisture,
heat and pressure. Horses have a very sensitive digestive tract,
and pressure-cooked feed provides the best in nutrition and
digestion. While pressure cooking is not new, this method of
feeding is relatively new to the equine industry. Blue Seal Feeds
has been a leader in this field, manufacturing 100% Pressure
Cooked horse feeds for more than 18 years. Blue Seal offers an
extensive line of pressure cooked horse feeds under the Sentinel
brand of equine products. These Nutrient Release Formula feeds
are made with all natural low starch and sugar ingredients and
include soybean hulls, beet pulp, rice bran and flaxseed plus
vitamins and minerals. They are pressure cooked, forming highly
digestible nuggets designed to optimize nutrition and digestion.
Extruded feeds are designed for maximum breakdown through
enhanced enzyme activity that starts as soon as your horse takes
its first bite.

Low Starch and Sugar Ingredients – A low starch and sugar diet is
often recommended by veterinarians and nutritionists for horses with a
history of metabolic and digestive challenges, such as Cushing’s, insulin
resistance, tying up, DOD, EPSM, colic and laminitis.
Healthy Rate of Intake – The light and airy nature of pressure cooked
feeds may facilitate the breakdown of feed for horses while encouraging
slower consumption and more thorough chewing. A slower rate of intake
with more complete chewing may help minimize the risk of digestive
upsets, such as colic and choke.
High Nutrient Density – Provides more actual nutrition by weight;
you may feed less while delivering more of what your horse needs for
optimum health and ideal body condition.
Stable Digestive Environment – Direct-fed microorganisms and
fermentation products aid in maintaining healthy digestion and active
microbial fermentation for sustained nutrient digestibility, absorption
and assimilation. These additives may support the presence of beneficial
bacteria in the gut, resulting in sustained horse health and a more stable
digestive tract environment.
Built-In Fiber – Highly fermentable fiber sources such as soybean
hulls, rice bran and beet pulp support healthy digestive activity while
providing extra calories in a safe and natural form.
Healthy Skin and Hair Coat – Highly digestible fat from Soybean
Oil and Flaxseed (sources of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids) helps
provide extra calories for maintaining ideal body condition and helps
promote a healthy skin and hair coat.
Brain and Visual Support – Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), an Omega-3
fatty acid, is a structural component of nerve cells in the brain and eyes
and a key component of heart tissue. Studies have shown that DHA is
important for mental and visual development and
plays a key role in the anti-inflammatory process.

digestive health and function.

NUTRIENT
RELEASE
Extruded feeds are designed for maximum
breakdown through enhanced enzyme activity that
starts as soon as your horse takes its first bite
optimizing digestibility and nutrient utilization;
safely delivering unmatched nutrition naturally.
All natural ingredients including soybean hulls,
beet pulp, rice bran and flaxseed plus vitamins and
minerals are pressure cooked forming highly
digestible nuggets designed to release the full
nutritional power of these wholesome ingredients.
Mouth:
Feed mixes with natural saliva to facilitate the initial breakdown of ingredients
to food particles. The light and airy nature of pressure cooked feeds allows for
better interaction with saliva, helping promote proper digestive action while
encouraging a more natural, slower rate of intake.
Stomach:
Natural enzymes and acids convert feed particles into essential nutrients for
efficient absorption. With pressure cooking of ingredients, essential proteins,
carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins undergo maximal digestion,
minimizing the undesirable passage of nutrients like starches and sugars to the
hindgut.
Intestine:
7.
Intestinal absorption of nutrients is essential for life processes including
respiration, metabolism, growth, reproduction and physical activity.
Incorporating amino acids from quality protein, energy from fat and soluble
carbohydrates, trace minerals from biologically available forms and antioxidant
vitamins ensures nutrients are available for maximal utilization.
Cecum:
The active microbial population found in the cecum serves to ferment forage and
other fiber components into usable energy, protein and other nutrients like
B-vitamins. Superior fermentable fiber from sources like soybean hulls, beet pulp
and rice bran provide calories for energy in a safe and natural form while
direct-fed microbials help to maintain a stable intestinal environment.
Colon
&
Rectum:
Absorption of nutrients obtained from the fermentation of forage and other fiber
sources is an important source of natural energy, protein, minerals and vitamins
for the horse. Feeding a high quality, highly digestible pressure cooked feed with
healthy fermentation leads to efficient absorption of nutrients and water by the
colon and encourage
