Head for the Day
The TMS Annual Parent Luncheon is a wonderful yearly event where the TMS
community comes together to celebrate friendships and raise funds to allow
the School to do its best and go beyond for students. Being Head for the Day
was introduced as a new item in the silent auction last year. As a result, we
are looking forward to Julia from class 320 at the Bayview Campus taking her
position as Head for the Day on Tuesday, April 16th.
Julia plans to start her day in the Head’s Office at the Bayview Campus. From
there she will greet Bayview students as they enter the School. Next she will
visit classes at the Bayview Campus to recognize and celebrate the great
work being done as students and teachers strive to go beyond. Julia may
even stop and share a favoured story with one or more of the classes she
visits. Julia then plans to host a pizza lunch for her ‘former’ classmates in 320
and survey the class regarding their ideas to make TMS even better. She will
then meet with the Academic Heads to share the information she has
gathered and make recommendations regarding future plans to address
these ideas. Julia will also meet with a number of the Head’s direct reports in
Marketing and Communications, Admissions and Advancement to review the
progress of their current initiatives. Finally, Julia plans to conclude her day by
touching base with the Chair of the Board to report on the outcomes of her
day.
If you have an opportunity on the 16th, please take a moment to say “hello”
and welcome our Head for the Day.
Welcome New TMS Board Trustee, Annette Nunno
TMS is pleased to welcome Annette Nunno as a new Board Member. With a
Bachelor’s degree in the Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Annette
has many years of teaching experience in both the elementary, high school
and adult education working for the Toronto Catholic District School Board.
She specialized in teaching French immersion and core language courses.
Annette has also taught, Law, History, Geography, English, Italian, English as a
Second Language (E.S.L.), Careers and Civics classes as well as adult
education courses. Presently, Annette is a Registered Real Estate Broker and
licensed mortgage broker working in her family’s brokerage which is
registered with The Toronto Real Estate Board. Annette and her husband
Chris Tsiantis are parents of three children attending TMS: Anthony in Lower
Elementary, Alessia in her last year of Children’s House and Alexander
finishing in the Toddler Program. Annette has put forth a considerable
amount of volunteer effort as a TMS volunteer in a number of areas including
Classroom Representative Program, TMS Annual Parent Luncheon,
Scholastic Book Program and Pizza Lunches.
With her teaching and business experience, her track record as a committed
volunteer and as an experienced parent at TMS, Annette is a welcome
addition to TMS Board of Trustees. She looks forward to assisting the School
to achieve its long term goals to go beyond for students from 18 months to 18
years and its adult students.

Students celebrated “Norouz”, the Iranian New Year. The non-religious cultural event starts on the first
day of spring at the astronomical vernal equinox, when the sunlight is evenly divided between the North
and South hemispheres. Students Samin Joulaie (Class 315), Maryam Joulaie (Class 314) and Emma
Hassani (Class 315) presented to their peers with help from TMS parent Mrs. Joulaie.

Spring Parent/Teacher interview dates for Toddler, Children’s House and Lower Elementary students are April
4th, 9th and 11th. Bayview Campus Interviews will be booked through the online booking system:
https://secure.parentinterviews.com/tmsschoolbv
Detailed instructions for using the software are located on the TMS website www.tmsschool.ca (on the bottom
of the Home Page, click on the TMS Community tab, select ‘Parent Teacher Interview Instructions’).
Effective immediately, you can register a new account. The booking system will be available until 3 pm on the
date of the interviews (for example, interviews on April 4th can be booked until 3 pm on April 4th - as availability
allows). All interview times (homeroom teachers and specialists) must be booked through the online system.
Upper Elementary students (Grades 4, 5 and 6) will take part in Student Led Conferences instead of ParentTeacher Interviews. The dates and booking process are the same. Please ensure you book for your child’s
grade level and specific homeroom.

A Reflection from a Member of the
TMS Production Mirror Image
Being part of the musical Mirror Image was a great experience for
me. In addition to developing and strengthening friendships with
other cast members as we worked together at rehearsals, I was able
to enjoy one of my favourite activities: acting.
To act is to become a different person on stage. During the final
performance, all cast members brought imaginary characters to life,
convincing the audience, for at least a moment, that they were real.
Every rehearsal led up to that final performance. It was difficult at first
since there were two separate casts, both who rehearsed a little
differently. For example, both casts initially prepared different
choreography for the final music number, which involved all cast
members. Our final rehearsals were the only time we had to figure
out how to make transitions between scenes, and run through the full
play.
Although the rehearsing was a bit difficult at times, we worked hard to
make the production come together in the end. Our efforts really paid
off and the show was a success.

Titan Team Focus: Under 14 and
Under 16 Boys Basketball
A Banner Day! U14 Boys Basketball –
Success at the Final Four SSAF Tournament
Congratulations to the U14 Boys Basketball team who won
the banner after defeating Tall Pines 32-29, at the Final Four
SSAF Tournament hosted by TMS on Thursday, March 28th.
In addition to winning the banner, the team placed first in the
North Division. Winning a banner is not easy considering that
only one of 21 teams can win. If that is not enough of an
accomplishment, this is the second year in a row that TMS
has won the U14 Boys championship. The grade 8 members
of the team also reminded me that they were champions
two years ago while in their final year at the Bayview
Campus.
In the championship game the boys started out with the
early lead. Basketball however is a game of streaks and the
team faced adversity in the third quarter when Tall Pines tied
the game. Still committed to team play, the boys started
scoring again and resumed the lead. The photograph to the
left captures Jacob Martins as he is about to score the final
point of the game at the free throw line with 2 seconds left to
play in the game.
Ms. Sutherland and I would like to thank the parents, family
and TMS community who came and supported us
throughout the season. To the team, we are very proud of
your dedication, unselfish play, positive attitude, grace and
courtesy, both on and off the court. Next year we will be
proud to see the senior members of the team compete in
their new division under Coach Walker and welcome
students from the Bayview Campus to try out for the team.

U16 Boys work hard all day
to place 3rd in the SSAF
Basketball Championship
Tournament.
Last Thursday, the U16 boys headed to the
Hoop Dome to participate in the SSAF
Championship Banner tournament. TMS got out
to a great start winning their 1st match by over 10
points against TCMPS. Their 2nd match was
against a much bigger and stronger team in
Metro Prep. Despite working hard on the court
TMS lost their 2nd match. The boys used the
loss as fuel to win the next two matches against NTCS and Prestige, clinching 2nd place in their pool
and a spot in the semi-finals. They were matched up against MPS who had placed 1st in the other
pool and whom TMS had lost to last week in the warm-up tournament finals. TMS fought hard all
game and kept the match close but MPS’ size and baskets in the paint were too much for them to
handle and they ended up losing. The U16 boys should be extremely proud of their 3rd place finish out
of 10 teams. Well done and congrats on a great season.
