The Window of Indonesian Islamic Academic Excellence
The Window of
Indonesian Islamic Academic Excellence
Indonesia is constitutionally a secular state (but the government
officially recognizes only six formal religions), with Islam being the
dominant religion in the country. Indonesia also has a larger Muslim
population than any other countries in the world, with approximately
202.9 million identifying themselves as Muslim (87.2% of Indonesia's
total population in 2011).
Indonesia as an Islamic and Democracy Country
"But even as this land of my youth
has changed in so many ways, those
things that I learned to love about
Indonesia -- that spirit of tolerance
that is written into your constitution,
symbolized in your mosques and
churches and temples standing
alongside each other; that spirit that
is embodied in your people -- that still
lives on,"
- Barrack Obama
"As I travel around the world over the
next years, I will be saying to people: if
you want to know whether Islam,
democracy, modernity and women's
rights can co-exist, go to Indonesia,“
- Hillary Clinton
