AT A GLANCE 2013
Activity report
The MD’s Word
CERIC confirms it’s ongoing growth with a 23 % increase
in net sales in 2013, and many new brickwork projects
in 2014.
2013 confirms CERIC’s worldwide expansion. Moving
into new premises, that are just as spacious as they
are modern, was the opportunity to celebrate
CERIC’s 50 years anniversary. This reflection on 50
years of passion for Heavy Clay, of technological
leadership and of international conquests made us
aware that CERIC is first of all a HUMAN ADVENTURE.
Numerous historical anecdotes by Jean MERIENNE
were a clear evidence of it.
So WHY ?
What does CERIC embody that our customers do
not find in other engineering companies? Why does
explain this innate, almost trans-generational and
nearly passionate trust? Why such a support after the recent difficult years (the 2009 financial crisis
and the 2010 bursting of the housing bubble in many
countries)? The movie focusing of the values that
make CERIC is providing some answers (see our
web site: www.ceric.com):
CERIC’s PASSION for EARTH and FIRE, the intimate
belief that HEAVY CLAY is THE material of choice
for SUSTAINABLE HOUSING thanks to its ecological,
economic and societal aspects. Being motivated
by the conviction that this type of housing meets
human aspirations of health and well-being. Demonstrating moreover that Heavy Clay materials
provide local solutions to global issues: use of local
natural resources, emergence of local businesses,
creation of local jobs, adaptation to local and traditional construction methods. That is the driving
force behind CERIC.
CERIC made a choice between TRADITION and the
control by multinational companies on cheap and
commonplace construction ways: thus enabling its
customers and building materials producers who
are driven by the same values to provide ever improving products in the respect of tradition; allowing
them as well to let their own customers, the “inhabitants of the Earth”, to continue to choose their housing style, and to pass it on to their children.
HOW ?
Simply by restoring the thousand-year acclaim of
Heavy Clay. By developing technologies meeting
new goals of energy consumption and CO2 emissions, of alternative fuels (biomass energy…), while
still ensuring attractive industrial productivities and
unmatched returns on investment. And by developing the outstanding attributes of the Heavy
Clay building materials.
Of course we build beautiful machinery and great
brick plants, but we like to remind ourselves that
every year in Algeria alone, CERIC is indirectly participating in the lodging of 200 000 families in a
home whose style and quality meet their quality of
life expectations!
Starting 2014 we are pushing this belief to South
America, South-East Asia, CIS, and so on: so called
emerging countries with a rapidly growing population and a strong increase in their living standards,
and equal rights to quality housing. Their entrepreneurs and investors therefore need a technology
allowing them to offer the same Heavy Clay products within first rate industrial and economical
standards.

INAUGURATION OF NEW OFFICES: CERIC, 50 years later
CERIC inaugurated its new premises on June 27th, 2013
in front of more than a hundred guests:
customers, international suppliers, key figures of the
Heavy Clay sector, political and financial partners and
former employees of CERIC. This is a new step in the
growth of CERIC as the office space has been doubled
and so allows the integration of new employees.
Mr. HÉBRARD, President, Mr. WAGNER, Managing Director of CERIC Technologies and Mr. POIRIER, President of
PLÉIADE INVESTISSEMENT have successively welcomed
the guests through speeches presenting CERIC’s
international dimension and its prospects for development.
Mr. MERIENNE, co-founder of CERIC, then intervened, recalling, inter alia, that « CERIC Technologies is the only
heir to CERIC ». A new movie called « CERIC, 50 years later » was presented, emphasizing the continuity of CERIC’s spirit and more particularly its ongoing commitment to innovation.
CERIC INNOVATES
Bpifrance EXCELLENCE, CERIC’s non-stop innovation recognized
CERIC is entering the elite world of Bpifrance EXCELLENCE , select circle made of 2000 French SMEs known and

NEW PLANTS
The year 2013 was marked by the commissioning of BRANIS plant in Algeria.
Beyond the mere fact that this plant is probably the most productive one in Algeria, it is also the one involving
the greatest technological mastery.
This plant features for the first time the new CERIC APR rapid dryer (with reduced steps): with an overall length
of only 111 m and clays 6,5 m wide, it is equipped with 78 mobile racks totaling no less than 468 trays. BRANIS
plant is also equipped with a new Demeter 730 extrusion unit. Totally redesigned, this new extrusion unit PELERIN®
is actually a new machinery. Its new design relates to the variable speed drives, the reducing gears, the shafts
and augers, the rotating sets, the grids and the position of the vacuum chamber. All aspects of its construction
contribute to reaching a production capacity of way over 80 tons/ho.
BRANIS brickworks is the plant of all superlatives with its clay pit developing a capacity of 9 000 m3, an excavator
shifting on two beams with a range of 17 m handling more than 100 tons/ho ; a 164 m long kiln with a 8.2 m
canal internal width, 2 setting lines, three packaging lines, …

CERIC has initiated the construction of four new brickworks ranging from 120 000 to 160 000 tons:
> Belhoul
> Protimgad 3
> Taghaste 2
> Sfapromaco
All these Algerian plants shall be equipped with preparation and fabrication machinery of the PELERIN® range, with
CERIC CASING kilns and rapid dryers. These four fully automated and remote controlled units will be mostly equipped
with packaging units allowing the loading of trucks much more rapidly. Excavators made by PELERIN® shall also be
assembled in order to ensure a total automation from the feeding of the clay, bulk delivered from the quarry, to the
fired bricks loaded onto outgoing trucks.
Renovations
In France, CERIC carried out renovation works for its
historic customers:
IMERYS Saint Germer and IMERYS Wardrecques.
On this late site, CERIC has performed modification
works on kiln aeraulics and process, in order to increase
the kiln recovery to the dryer. Thanks to these modifications
the global energy consumption of the whole drying/firing process was significantly reduced. Over 40 meters
of ducts have been added, some connection points
reaching a height of above 8 meters. This intervention
was integrated into an approach of “energy savings”
initiated by the customer, designed to recover the
air extracted under-car and to increase the air flow
feeding the dryer.
CERIC thermal department also signed several major orders with WIENERBERGER
UK, and in particular:
> On a site near Manchester, an order for the improvement of the firing process
on a German traditional kiln by adding CERIC’s high-temperature air mixing on
pre-fire section. These works make it possible to optimize firing homogeneity and
to improve products quality.
> An order, carried-out in close co-operation with the customer, relating to the
modernization and the compliance of over 20 years old kiln equipment in a
roof-tiles plant. The heating equipment now meets the very latest standards in
force: 746-2 Version 2010.
In the Republic of Mordovia, CERIC equipped SARANSK with a PELERIN® 5RR6 double-pulley roller crusher
to upgrade its existing CERIC unit.
Increases in capacity
The plant of SARL Société Fabrication de Briques IMJ in Batna was
commissioned by CERIC in 2012 with a production of 300 tons/day.
Given the success of high quality bricks with its customers, IMJ entrusted
CERIC in 2013 with the increase of kiln capacity. Thanks to the addition of
several heating equipment, the installation of a rapid cooling zone and the
adjustment performed by CERIC ceramist engineers, the kiln capacity could
be increased to 530 tons per day, i.e. 170% of the rated production capacity.

The 2013 operational performance, led by another significant increase of turnover of over 23% compared
to previous year, enables to continue and to even
speed up the evolution of CERIC. CERIC’s Management, in full agreement with its shareholders, decided
therefore to speed up its development strategy following three major axes:
> an ambitious R&D program (3% of revenues),
> a significant investment in human resources,
> an enlarged world coverage.

Even though this impacted negatively its 2012 Current
Operating Income, CERIC remains convinced that
those commitments are contributing to a continuous
successful growth of the company. The shift in 2013
sales by region as well as early 2014 order entries are
already confirming this strategic approach. Together
with the strong increase of equity during 2013 (net
increase of 34% compared to 2013) CERIC is well
prepared to strengthen its leading position on the
market in the future.
