We know you love our non-seasonal brews, but
variety is the spice of life right? Try these limitedtime flavors, only at our Haus!
We’re kicking off 2016 with Schwarzbier — a rich
and roasty favorite boasting notes of chocolate and
coffee, and a 5.8% abv. In February we cozy up to
Hoppy Weizen. This new Cleveland brew, features
aggressive notes, a citrus-hops aroma and 6% abv.
March will have you feeling lucky with Dunkler Bock.
Malty and full of flavor, our Dark Bock is 7% abv and
the perfect way to drink into spring.
All of our beers are made right on-site and adhere
to the strict German Purity Law set forth by Wilhelm
IV, Duke of Bavaria in 1516. It stated that only four
ingredients - barley, hops, water and yeast - could
be included in the making of Germany’s brew. He
even declared draconian penalties for anyone who
continued to add impurities like mushroom spores
and brushwood, saying the “poisoned” barrel would
be “smashed on the ground and the concoction will
be publicly poured in the alleys and the streams!”
At Hofbräuhaus Cleveland, we happily oblige
Wilhelm’s 400-year-old law and look forward to
seeing you here in January, February and March to
enjoy our seasonal flavors!

One step inside Hofbräuhaus Cleveland
and it’s clear not all breweries are created
equal. What makes our on-site brewery
so special? We spoke with brew master
Josh Jones and got an inside look at the
man behind the brew, and what it takes to
deliver your favorite flavors.
A trip to America’s oldest brewery,
Yuengling, and this Ohio native was on his
path to brewing Germany’s favorite beer.
He’s been brewing beer since 2005 and
has been with Hofbräuhaus Cleveland
since July 2014 where he’s in charge
of brewing our four year-round and 12
seasonal brews.
Learn to speak German at any age! With more than fifty years
of experience, Lenau Park’s German Language School offers
classes for both children and adults. We also offer the
National German Exam and the Deutsches Sprachidiplom
(German Language Diploma).

First brewed for only the Bavarian Dukes,
our beer is still made according to the
famous Purity Law, or Reinheitsgebot,
stating only four ingredients can be used:
barley, yeast, hops and water.
BOOT
Every day we produce 2,000 liters, about
525 gallons, at a time or even double
batches if necessary —that’s up to 4,000
liters! Look around, do you see those big
copper kettles in the Bier Hall? They’re
not just for looks. That’s where the
complex starches in the malt are broken
into simple sugars, later consumed by
the yeast in the brewing process, to
create alcohol and carbon dioxide. Josh
and his crew extract and separate the
sugary liquid known as wort, then boil it
to sanitize the wort and allow hops to be
added for bitterness and aroma.

we love Shotskiis so much! A
Shotski is a row of shot glasses
attached to a ski. Participants
line up, tilt the paddle and take
the shot, together. Brilliant right?
History places the origin of
Shotskiis in Austria (not long after
the introduction of skiing itself)
where it takes the traditional
German name Schnappski.
Here at Hofbräuhaus Cleveland,
the shots are secured to the ski,
however, the traditional alpine
shotski simply places the glass
on a ski or within a small groove
made for the glasses. This
obviously calls for a bit more skill
but is considered by some to be
the “true” Shotski way.
