Dr. Michael S. Derry went home to be with the
Lord January 18, 2015. A tribute to the life of
Pastor Mike Derry will be Noon on Saturday,
January 31, 2015, at Poca Baptist Church.* The family will
receive friends from 10:00 to Noon on Saturday prior to the
service. If you would like to ride with our church, please meet us
in the lower lot by 10 AM.
Pastor Mike served as Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church of
Hurricane from September 1990 – November 1999. He came
to us from a church in Ohio and served our church faithfully for
almost 10 years. During his tenure at First Baptist Church, our
Family Life Center became a reality and has been a vital part of
our total ministry. He left this church to become an Area Minister with the West Virginia Baptist Convention. Later he served
the Lord by ministering to his people at Poca Baptist Church.
We will be forever grateful for his legacy and the many lives he
touched at First Baptist Church.

As we get rolling again, now is a great time for new folks to join us in the
Music & Worship Ministry! We are now in an open enrollment time and
our goal for 2015 is 50 Choir members! So If you like to sing then come
and help us lead the congregation in worship! We are starting on our Easter
Musical “Only Jesus” this week so now is a great time to join! Also if you
know someone who plays an instrument (well), please ask them to come see
me. Excited for 2015!

Excerpt from farewell letter from FBA parent:
“I wanted to encourage each one of the staff
and teachers because what you do each day is
not just a job. It is truly a ministry. You are
making a difference in each of these children's
lives. I know because three of those children
live at my house. I always knew they were
safe, loved and learning about Jesus. Thank
you and continue working for the Lord.”
