It is 1987 and Britain is about to be hit by
the worst storm in living memory.
Following critical acclaim and a sell-out run
as part of their first Rep season, The Faction
revive Schiller’s masterpiece, Mary Stuart.
A suspected terrorist has been arrested,
hastily tried with a law invented specifically
for her and condemned to death by a
jury, but not of her peers. That would be
impossible: her only peer is Queen Elizabeth I.
This presents Elizabeth with a terrifying
dilemma: either to reign in fear for the rest of
her life or to have Mary Stuart executed.
As one couple’s relationship falls apart, this
powerful drama deftly interweaves the chaos
of their lives with that of the terrifying hurricane
raging outside. Using exciting and evocative
staging and a stunning visual kaleidoscope
of images and stories, the havoc wreaked by
nature and its impact on the individuals whose
path it crosses is brilliantly revealed.
