Christ has opened for us the way to a new life! The Resurrection of Christ is the principle of our own resurrection, now by the justification of our souls and one day by the new life he will impart to our bodies (CCC.658). “We firmly believe, and hence we hope that, just as Christ is truly risen from the dead and lives forever, so after death the righteous will live forever with the risen Christ and he will raise them up on the last day” (CCC, 989). How can you experience new life in Christ today? archstl.org/dynamic PARISH STAFF Rev. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to support home mission dioceses in the United States is by supporting seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, because educating each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week’s appeal. 2 l Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 Sunday, March 27 — Happy Easter Monday, March 28 8:30 a.m.—Faith Journey Group, St. Blaise Rm. 6:00 p.m.—Quilting, Annex 6:30 p.m.—Boy Scout Troop #954, Gym 7:00 p.m.—YM Advisory Mtg., St. Blaise Rm. Solidarity binds the rich to the poor. It makes the free zealous for the cause of the oppressed. It drives the comfortable and secure to take risks for the victims of tyranny and war. It calls those who are strong to care for those who are weak and vulnerable across the spectrum of human life. It opens homes and hearts to those in flight from terror and to migrants whose daily toil sup~ U.S. Catholic Bishops ports affluent lifestyles.” Called to Global Solidarity, A Statement of the national Conference of Catholic Bishops DAVID KAUFFMAN TICKETS Tickets for the David Kauffman Concert Thursday evening, March 31, 7pm, Skip Viragh Performing Arts Center @ Chaminade, 425 S. Call day or night to hear readings from daily Mass, prayer texts, and reflections for each day of the liturgical year. HEARING ASSISTANCE IN CHURCH! For those who need help overcoming background noise, reverberation or distance from the microphones in church, we have purchased 10 handheld receivers that connect directly to the audio of our sound system. This allows listeners to sit anywhere in church and listen at the volume they need without disturbing others! Receivers are available for borrow before each weekend Mass and return immediately after. The receivers accept universal headphones/earphones. For hygienic reasons, please purchase your own headphones, e.g., Walgreens, Target, Best Buy, etc. Keep them in your purse or car glove compartment – that way they will be easily accessible when you come to Mass! There is a limited number of over-the-ear headphones for borrow. We also are pleased to offer neck loops for parishioners who have telephone coil hearing aids. Receivers are available in the small conference room at the East end of the gathering space. A volunteer will be there to help you. STEPHEN MINISTRY "On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. " ~ John 20:1 We all know how the rest of that story goes! He is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Hope... He gave to us! In this most remarkable act of love, lies our hope. Amidst chocolate bunnies, pink and purple 'grass', and jelly beans, it may be difficult to remember what Easter Sunday is really about! We have been given our greatest gift...He died, and then rose from the dead...for us! So that we can live! When we are faced with life issues, such as death of a loved one; job loss; loneliness; issues that shake our foundation of faith, and more, we generally turn toward ourselves, and the struggle of 'getting through' this issue. The problem of that approach is that it is only our struggle and issue that we see. Consider calling the caring, listening Stephen Ministry, 739-0230, ext. 130, and leave a confidential message. Reach out to the specially trained and selected; lay Stephen Ministers to help you get through the struggle that you face. Perhaps you will share in the hope of this day! Please share with someone who may benefit from this message! MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER A Marriage Encounter weekend is like springtime because it is a weekend of fresh air, restoration and a rich fullness of life. If you would like to make your marriage even more special than it already is, apply for a weekend on April 22-24 or August 5-7. For more information call 649.7317 or see our website at www.stl-wwme.org. (314) 739-0230, Extension 132 Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 | 5 D ID Y OU K NOW ? Rediscover Jesus An Invitation By: Matthew Kelly The “Year of Study”... Chapter 12 The Soul of the Gospel Point to Ponder: Everybody needs to forgive somebody. Verse to Live: “If you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you.” ~ Matthew 6:14 Question to Consider: How seriously do you take Jesus’ invitation to forgive? Prayer: Jesus, you forgive me even though you know I am going to sin again. Teach me to be that generous with my forgiveness. CHAPTER SUMMARY: The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic (Page 105-106) If you read five pages of a great Catholic book every day, you will be amazed how your knowledge and enthusiasm for the faith will begin to grow. Five pages a day is 1,825 pages in a year, 18,250 pages in a decade, and 45,625 pages over twenty-five years. That’s 228 books with an average length of two hundred pages. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS CAN BE FOUND ON THE ARCHDIOCESE’S WEBSITE (archstl.org), Click on the Dynamic Catholic Alive! Link, then on “Study.” ACTION ITEM: Listen to Lighthouse Catholic Media CDs. QUOTE: (The Saints on Prayer) “One must not fear truth, because it is a friend of man and of his freedom.” ~ Pope Benedict XVI 6 | Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 Go make disciples of all nations Like last Lent a series of weekly bulletin articles this year called us to reflect on five areas of discipleship—worship, fellowship, stewardship, service and evangelization. The articles had four parts: a scripture quote, a quote of someone or an article, my reflection and Personal Reflection questions for parishioners. During this Easter season, I ask you again to reflect on these five areas through different lenses. The first is “Did You Know.” With over 3700 events each year, Holy Spirit Parish offers many opportunities for parishioners and others to deepen their discipleship. The “Did You Know” section will provide interesting facts about life at Holy Spirit in these five areas. The second section is “What Will/Can I Personally Commit Myself To?” This section invites parishioners to reflect on ways of committing themselves to worship, fellowship, stewardship, service and evangelization. During Easter time this year we will celebrate the Risen Lord in several ways. On April 3 we will celebrate Fr. Jerry Meier’s 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood. On Sunday, May 1, 42 children will receive Jesus for the first time as they make their First Communion. This year, the Feast of Pentecost, is the twelfth anniversary of the founding of Holy Spirit Parish. At those Masses, on May 14 & 15, parishioners will be invited to make a commitment in the five aspects of discipleship. A brochure with a Commitment Card will be sent home a couple weeks before the Feast of Pentecost. Part of the brochure will be statements of what parishioners can expect from the parish in each of the five areas. These statements were developed at several Leadership Community Nights. During the Easter season, the Sunday readings speak of how the early church came to a deeper understanding of discipleship. This is the grace that is offered to us each year as we journey from Easter Sunday to the Feast of Pentecost. Easter Peace, Fr.
