Easter Swing is brought to you by the Seattle Swing Dance Club, a
non-profit membership organization who relies upon its volunteers to make this event
happen. Everyone who assisted you this weekend is a volunteer. Your registration desk
staff, workshop, competition and private lesson coordinators, and even your event directors, are all volunteers. Over 120 volunteers commit their time and energy to ensure
Easter Swing runs smoothly. Their efforts, along with the Event Directors and Leads
Team, who work throughout the year, are the reason you have such a wonderful dance
experience at Easter Swing. Please take a moment to thank the volunteers you see.
They deserve your heartfelt appreciation! They are throwing this party for YOU.
To the Leads Team: Thank you for bringing your talents, skills, dedication, and passion
to the team. Your support and excitement have meant everything and made this a successful, growing event. We appreciate everything you do. Thank you all so very much!
To the Volunteers: You are amazing! The Seattle Swing Dance Club and Easter Swing
are very lucky to have you. Thank you so very much for all that you do. This event is

Easter Swing proudly carries on the tradition of selecting a charitable organization
for our annual fundraiser. Last year you helped raise $1,500 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year we have selected Dance for Parkinson’s—dance
classes taught by professional dancers and offered free of charge for people with
Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers.

We are pleased to offer an incredible variety of workshops over this weekend!
Are there levels? There are no levels to the workshops. All social, technical, and versatile workshops are open to everyone with a workshop band or a workshop ticket.
Newcomer Intensive: These workshops are designed for any person who is brand new
to West Coast Swing or partner dancing. You will learn the basics of connection, partnering, and the basic West Coast Swing patterns that will get you dancing immediately.
This 4-hour FREE intensive is the perfect introduction. The workshops are on Saturday
afternoon and evening, with a dinner break. After the workshop, enjoy some practice
dancing and then use your Spectator Pass to watch the Saturday night professional
competitions. The intensive is in Evergreen EF at 3:30 pm on Saturday.
Social Dancer: These workshops are designed for the social dancer in all of us! Instructors will focus on socially leadable and followable skills so that you have the most enjoyable dance every time on the floor and you leave your partners wanting more.
Technical Dancer: As a technical dancer, you want to learn the technical nuances and
details about West Coast Swing. Instructors will focus on the aspects that unlock the
secrets of this dance to help you become a better social and competitive dancer. You
may walk away with some serious homework.
Versatile Dancer: As a versatile dancer, you enjoy seeing how West Coast Swing has
been shaped and influenced over the years by different dance styles. 5 hours of Jazz,
Shag, and Zouk workshops by top professionals in their field who will work with you to
learn those dances and how to start incorporating them into your own West Coast
Swing dance.
Workshop Pricing
Individual workshops are $15 per individual hour of workshop (a 2-hour
workshop is $30). Save by purchasing a Workshop Pass for $45. Purchase
your workshops at the Registration Desk.
Private Lessons are available with all your favorite instructors. Lessons are available on a
first–come, first–served basis and are held in semi-private rooms throughout the hotel.
We handle the scheduling on behalf of the instructors at the Private Lesson Desk.
Private Lesson Desk Hours:
Thursday: 8:00 pm–9:30 pm
Friday: 12:30 pm–7:00 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am–3:00 pm

EASTER SWING 2016
Competitions are an exciting component of any west coast swing dance convention. We
are sanctioned by the National Association of Swing Dance Events and registered with the
World Swing Dance Council and the Young Adult Swing Dance Association. We offer the
opportunity to compete in the following divisions:
Jack and Jill: This division highlights social swing dancing skills at a performance level for
randomly paired leaders/followers who will dance with an emphasis on technique, timing and teamwork to music selected by the DJ. We offer Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, All-Stars, Champions and Masters (experienced, mature WCS competitors at
least 50 years old) and Easter Egg Scramble (any level competitor, also known as AllAmerican).
Competitors’ Meeting for Jack and Jill Competitors
Saturday: Noon, Evergreen Ballroom E
The competitors’ meeting is not mandatory, but highly recommended for the Novice
level competitors. In addition, any changes to the competition rules will be announced
during the competitors’ meeting. Petitioners must attend in order to hear petition results. Please be sure to review the competitions rules, which are available at the Competition Registration Desk and at easterswing.org.
Strictly Swing: Contestants enter with a partner of their choice. Pre- choreographed
moves are not allowed; choreography that is “on the fly” and strictly lead and follow is
the essence of this division. Partner weight support moves (drops, leans, circular movements) are allowed as long as both partners keep at least one foot on the floor. Dancing
must consist of at least 90% recognizable swing patterns. We offer Novice/Intermediate,
Advanced/All-Stars, Champions and Sophisticated (competitors at least 35 years old).
Routines: For Classic, Showcase, Rising Star and YASDA Divisions, competitors enter
as a couple, supply their own music, and perform a routine prepared in advance.
Costumes are allowed and encouraged.
Classic Division: Swing dancing that allows choreography with an “on the ground”
approach to the dance. No more than five partner weight support moves are permitted. Recognizable swing content must be present in at least 80% of the performance as required by NASDE.
Showcase Division: Swing dancing that allows choreography with flair toward lifts,
aerials, acrobatics, and other partner weight support moves. This division requires at
least three partner weight support moves including one with
the partner above the waist. There are no maximum number of lifts, but performance must include 60% swing content.
EASTER SWING 2016

Good Egg Award
The Seattle Swing Dance Club presents The Good Egg Award! This award will
be presented to the events “favorite” social dancers. The recipients of this
award are those who most embody what social dancing really means. The
Good Eggs are not the flashiest dancers with the biggest moves or the ones
you watch burning up the floor. Over the course of the weekend, if you find
someone who just made you smile, made you feel like you were the center of
the world for that dance, the person who gave you an amazing dance, or who
was the highlight of your weekend, that is who you should nominate for this
award! When you registered you were given a nomination slip: one side for a
leader and the other side for a follow. Write the name(s) of your nominee(s)
and drop the slip in the box on or near the registration desk BEFORE Sunday at
1:00 pm. Please remember the essence of this award is for the most enjoyable
social dance, so please nominate someone you actually danced with THIS
weekend!

EASTER SWING 2016
Welcome to our 22nd year of Easter Swing! Thank you for celebrating once
again with us!
This event is owned and sponsored by the Seattle Swing Dance Club the longest
running swing club in the country. It has been our pleasure to lead this event for the
first time. All three of us worked with Jim Minty for several years in Lead positions and
have had the pleasure this year of continuing to work with an amazing group of leads.
All of us have put in many hours over the years into making this event what it is today.
We would like to invite you to take advantage of all the activities and benefits
available to you this weekend such as…..

The extensive workshop program, which includes three different focuses:
social dancers, technical dancers, and versatile dancers. In addition, we
are offering the free newcomer classes for those of you just starting out.

Competition challenges through Strictly Swings and Jack and Jill’s. Don’t miss
our second annual Easter Egg Scramble (All-American).

Private lessons with your favorite instructors.

Two world class shopping malls attached with over 40 restaurants/bars
within 3 blocks.

Over 100 volunteers from the Seattle Swing Dance Club, our sponsoring
entity and biggest supporter. Please take the time to thank them and even
better, ask them to dance!
There will be plenty of time for social dancing and socializing throughout the weekend.
Make sure to mingle and dance with someone new – you never know it could be your
best dance of the weekend. And if it is—consider nominating that person for the Good
Egg award!
Have FUN!
