imolai MBH 560T, the largest tonnage
capacity lift in Turkey which was purchased
by Aykırı Shipyard with the sales agreement
made in December 2012 and installed in April
2013, was delivered free of any problems on March
3, 2014 after finger pier and dock concreting
and with the static and dynamic tests successful.
The static test was performed at x1.25 capacity
(560Tx1.25=700T ) and the float taken from the
pier was disconnected from the water line, held
over the slings for 15 minutes and the tests for the
drum, pilot valves, ropes, slings, main engine and
auxiliary engine were performed using visuals and
data provided via plc computer and no error was
detected. The dynamic test was performed with
x1.1 capacity (560Tx1.1=620T ) and 620T waterfilled float taken from the pier was removed from
the sea, rotated 360 degrees around its axis for 10
minutes in Slew-Drive mode, moved for 10-minute
periods with crab walks and all hydraulic systems,
main and auxiliary engines, ropes, slings, pivot pin
tensions, hydro-valves and alarm systems were
tested. Cimolai MBH 560T was proven as a lift
exceeding 100% capacity and received full marks
from the shipyard’s operations managers, Bilal and
Muammer Aykın.

“What made me decide to work here were
specifically the vision, open-mindedness and
approaches of top-level managers. Everyone
here are extremely good professionals. It is a
completely business-focused company and
therefore I fit in easily. I can say that this is
a really professional atmosphere. In crane

that manufacturing a RTG crane takes almost 1 year
and they are widely preferred in Turkey in the last
years. Aktan thinks that the reason of this is that it
operates on electric power and adds: “Most of the RTG
sales we make consists of electric products. Diesel
costs in Turkey are quite high and therefore port
operators prefer electric-powered RTGs. It is also faster
and more economic as compared to other container

products and the number or users in Turkey is also on
the rise”.

obligations
to my family”
Ömer Dedeoğlu was graduated from Yıldız
Technical University Surveying Engineering
Department in 2007 and fulfilled his
military obligation afterwards. After the
military service, he had a 3-month business
experience and joined Das Otomotiv,
where he has been working since 2008.
Dedeoğlu says that her was assigned
to DAS Engineering in his first days at
DAS and continues: “In my first days, we
were making a research on wind energy.
We were researching the process from
building a wind power station to the day of
commissioning”. Dedeoğlu explains that he
continued to work for DAS Engineering and
then assigned for Order Follow-up at DAS
Otomotiv in May 2013 and adds: “My work
now covers the process beginning with the
placement of order and ending with delivery
of the product. Dispatch of products
from the plant, placement of orders,
delivery times, transportation, follow-up of
insurance processes, customs procedures,
receipt of payments by the customers and
similar processes are included”. Dedeoğlu
reminded that they functioned as a bridge
between sales and after-sales services and
added: “The scope of our job is actually
quite extensive. In some cases, we provide
assistance regarding the delivery times at
pre-order stage. After the sale is finalized,
all processes related with delivery of the
product to the customer are under our
control. We keep the customer up-to-date
on the delivery time. Our basic objective is
to deliver the products to customers fast
and securely. These processes are important
not only for the customer but also for
internal data flow”.
DAS is a family
Dedeoğlu said that DAS, being
the first step in his career, is
very important for him and
continued: “I am very happy
at DAS Otomotiv. This is my
6th year. Actually I do not
feel like I am coming to
a workplace. It feels like
I am out of one home
into another one. We
are a family here. Under
the corporate identity,
we can feel the warmth
of a family. This
is not the
case in many
companies and
it helps me a
lot”. Dedeoğlu
continued:
“I do not feel
uncomfortable
here, waiting for the month to end. I just feel
like I am fulfilling my obligations to my family
and I work for that purpose. With this level of
integrity and warmth, everyone is efficient
and does the best.”

What can you tell us about the new
organization in Azerbaijan?
I can say that the Azerbaijan organization gained
pace with the establishment of our local company,
Das Kran AZ in April 2010. During this period,
we made several visits to Azerbaijan and we
were informed on the region. Oil and natural gas
resources as well as the developing nature of the
region makes it important for us.
What is your organization to provide services
for the projects in the region?
The initial organization is the local service team,
which is very important for us. The service team
was trained as necessary and is now capable of
immediate intervention to any failure.
What will be the activities regarding the
maintenance and spare part services in the
region?
With the purposes of fast responds to the needs of
customers in the region, we placed DAS Otomotiv
containers at the sites of major projects and try to
make a difference. We provide maintenance and
spare part services for Terex cranes in the region.
We supply spare parts from our inventory as fast as

possible and prevent interruption of equipment.
Which projects in Baku are your machines used
for? Can you give us basic information on the
projects?
Oil projects (construction of platforms and refineries),
chemicals plants, Olympic Stadium, Socar Headquarters,
Shooting Complex, Baku Haydar Aliyev International
Can you detail which machines are used for which
projects?
We sold 44 pieces of equipment for the Olympic Stadium
Project being constructed for the first European Olympics
in 2015. This package includes tower cranes, mobile
cranes, platforms and telescopic forklifts plus a 1250 ton
capacity crawler crane. We sold 20 pieces of Terex cranes
and Genie equipment for Socar Headquarters Project. We
sold 34 pieces of Genie platforms for Baku Haydar Aliyev
International Airport. 5 rough terrain mobile cranes are
operating at Qazma and Azerikimya which are managed
by Socar. 4 luffing type tower cranes with a capacity of
24 tons were sold for Ministry of Property Committee
and Baku Tower project constructed by Azinko Holding
companies. We also have a 32-ton capacity crane at the
shooting complex built for the European Olympics project.
What can you say about your rental services?
Comparing the market demand for platforms and the
equipment available, we can see a significant lack. In
this sense, we started to rent hydraulic platforms with
an operating height between 12 to 43 in 2013. We want
to increase the number and be effective in this business.
Anything to add?
Although we can exist only if we make sales, we are also
aware of the importance of after-sales services and we will
use our best efforts to provide best services for the customers
in a timely manner.

Finishing touches at
Akasya Acıbadem
Hareket providing
services at Akasya
Acıbadem residential
project at Istanbul’s
Anatolian Side mounted
steel constructions of
up to 20 tons to the roof
floor at a height of 100
meters. 600 ton-capacity
Terex CC2800-1 crawler
crane was used
A
kasya Acıbadem, one of the most prestigious
residential projects of Istanbul’s Anatolian Side,
was recently completed and mounting of steel
constructions specially designed for the roof
floor were among the finishing touches. Terex CC2800-1
crawler crane used for mounting the steel constructions at
an height of 100 meters made a majestic site at the busiest
district of the Anatolian side.
Hareket at work
Hareket was assigned to transport the steel constructions
manufactured for Akasya Acıbadem project and weighed
up to 20 tons and used a 600 ton-capacity Terex CC28001 crawler crane for the job. Terex CC2800-1 crawler crane
was the preferred machine for this prestigious project and
the constructions were transported to the site in pieces
by Hareket, which also made a site research before the
assembly of the crane. The engineers of the company
had to take many factors into account including strong
winds, narrow working space and the location of the
crane and specified the best boom configuration Terex
CC2800-1 crawler crane based on the date gathered
ViZYON 2014 ISSUE: 7
from the research. Following the determination of the
boom configuration and location of the crane, Hareket
performed a site survey and the lifting operation started
after the required conditions were met.
Project-specific boom
Following the ground reinforcement required for the
lifting operations, Hareket assembled the Terex CC28001 crawler crane and a configuration of 84-meter main
boom with a length of 144 meters and a 60 luffing fly
boom as specified by the project team was installed.
After the installation of the boom, 250 tons of rear
counterweight was mounted to the Terex CC2800-1 and
the configuration was suitable for lifting 32 tons of load
to a height of 92 meters. Hareket engineers told that
the most challenging aspects of the project were strong
wind and narrow working space, complete installation
of Terex CC2800-1 took 1 week and they lifted steel
constructions ranging from 1 ton to 20 tons in weight
to a height of 100 meters for assembly. It was reported
that all safety measures were taken by Hareket for Akasya
Acıbadem as usual, that they had to stop the operation
a couple of times due to strong wind and all wind limits
were strictly observed.
Step-by-step operation
4 Hareket transported the components of Terex CC2800-1 to Akasya Acıbadem project site with 31 trips using 6 trailers
and 3 low-bed vehicles.
4 Ground surveys were performed before the project. Certain tests were performed for ground reinforcement and the
ground was reinforced by some materials to make it available for lifting.
4 After the survey, the location of the crane and the boom configuration was determined. ( 84-meter main boom - 60
luffing fly boom)
4 Terex CC2800-1 installed with a 250-ton rear counterweight and a specific boom configuration was suitable for lifting
30.3 tons of load to the assembly site which was at a distance of 94 meters.
4 Finally, steel constructions ranging from 1 ton to 20 tons in weight were lifted to a height of 100 meters and
assembled by the assembly team.

Scheduling for uninterrupted Works
Das Otomotiv will provide maintenance and repair
works for 5 cranes and 80 other machines owned
by Çaba at IHI site. Das Otomotiv Service Chief Sabri
Kaya said that a team of 3 employees will handle the
maintenance and repair of the machinery during
the project. He expressed that a permanent service
center was established at Yalova site for this important
project for urgent intervention to the machinery and
continued: “The works here cannot be interrupted.
The project is late from the schedule and IHI wants
a fast progress. Therefore, we decided to establish
a permanent service center at the project site.
We will store all spare parts including pumps and
hydro-engines which may be required during the
project. In case of a failure, we will replace the failed
component. We will repair the demounted component
to prevent any delay. The challenge is that there will
be one crawler and one mobile crane on each pier.
When these fail, we will be able to intervene without
interrupting the works. There are no other options for
off shore intervention”. Kaya expressed that the service
will be operational throughout the project scheduled
to late 2015.
One crane will be maintained every month
Kaya said that on shore project works are expected
to be completed by the end of May and afterwards
the cranes will be installed on piers. Kaya expressed
that the total capacity of work for the bridge with
252-meter high piers will be 72 thousand tons and the
25-meter long and 36-meter wide bridge floors which
will be 325 tons in weight will be manufactured in
İzmit Gölcük site, loaded on barges and then mounted
using cranes. Kaya said that they will do their best to
prevent any interruption of works due to machinery
failure during this high-paced project and that their
schedule is to maintain one crane every month.

Mounting with CC2800-1 Terex CC2400
at Ağaoğlu Skytower
at AKSA Project
A
window cleaning elevator was mounted to Ağaoğlu Skytower Ataşehir.
Sarılar was assigned for lifting the elevator and a Terex CC2800- 1 crane was
used. The specifications of the crane used for the mounting are: SWSL, 84m
main boom, 90m fly jib, superlift counterweight 50t. The materials were lifted to a
horizontal access distance of 62m. The heaviest lift was 7 tons. CC2800-1 equipped
with a system length of 174m and a superlift attachment lifted the 7-ton load to a
height of 160m with 30 percent capacity. The ground was reinforced by concrete to
support a total weight of 486 tons and a soil pressure of 21.6t/square meter.

Hüseyin Altun, Terex CC2400 Crawler Crane Operator said: “I operate a Terex CC2400
crawler crane in this project. We installed the Terex CC2400 with 1 160-ton mobile crane
and use a 60-meter boom configuration”. Hüseyin Altun expressed that the purifying units
were successfully mounted and continued: “The working space was narrow and this caused
some delays. The units we lifted were ranging from 55 tons and 80 tons in weight. We set
up the most suitable boom configuration based on the environmental conditions and load
specifications”. Hüseyin Altun commented on the crane as follows: “Terex CC2400 was the
first crane I operated from crawler Terex CC series. I think that the crane is quite practical
and usable. It is very good in terms of view of sight, comfort and ease of use. I can say that it
functions quite sufficiently.”

3rd bridge construction
increases its pace
Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge construction works by IC İçtaş – Astaldi Consortium are continuing fast. The
bridge, which is the first ‘ecosystem bridge’ to preserve natural life, is scheduled for 2015. A total of four
45t-capacity Terex CTL 650 F45 luffing tower cranes are used, with two cranes located on each side
Y
avuz Sultan Selim Bridge, the 3rd bridge
on Bosporus, was started on 29 May 2013
after long discussions and the works are
now ongoing with a fast pace. The piers of
the bridge which will be 320 meters high are already
at 200 meters. 3rd Bridge Construction Director
Osman Sarı, involved in any successful projects earlier,
expressed that the 3rd Bridge will be constructed
much faster as compared to Fatih Sultan Mehmet
Bridge. Sarı said that the progress is much faster. He
expressed that the bridge is a majestic construction
with its specifications and the pace of works does
not cause any quality issues. The bridge towers are
constructed with a 24-hour shift system. 65 workers
are simultaneously on the towers and the number of
workers involved within the days is 300.
Cranes are rising
The works on the towers are performed in 3 stages.
The hydraulic system pushes the mould system up
using 60 pistons. Tower cranes are connected to
bridge towers and they also rise. Every 30 meters,
these cranes also go up. The mould system on bridge
towers which were at a height of 208 meters were
than changed after 208 meters and a climbing mould
system is now used. Dr. Michel Virlogeux, the French
Building Engineer who designed the Bosporus Bridge,
says that this bridge is the most significant ongoing
bridge project in the world. Virlogeux, also known as
a master of bridges, assured the people of Istanbul
regarding earthquakes and added: “Earthquake is an
important issue in Turkey. The Bosporus is seismically
safer as compared to Izmit coast. It is at a level almost
one third of Izmit coast. The bridge was designed with
the flexibility to prevent any affect of an earthquake”.

Selim Bridge is 59 meters wide, with
8 lanes of road. A 2-lane train line will
also be on the bridge. It will be the first
suspension bridge with a rail transport
system on its main span of 1408
meters and the suspension bridge with
highest towers exceeding 320 meters.
Bridge piers will be 20-meter deep,
with a diameter of 20 meters. The piers
will be 12 meters below sea level.
The projects consists of 1875-meter
long suspension bridge, 60-meter
long viaducts and 21-kilometer long
tunnels. There are 45 intersections
en-route, including the access roads.
65 viaducts and 7 tunnels will be built
to minimize the environmental effect.
In certain areas, the viaducts will be as
high as 85 meters. Total length of the
tunnels will be more than 5 kilometers.
Cranes used
Tower cranes have an important role
in construction of bridge piers. A total
of four 45t-capacity Terex CTL 650
F45 luffing tower cranes are used,
with two cranes located on each
side. CTL 650 F45 luffing jib tower
crane was introduced in 2012 as the
newest member of Terex’s new extra-high capacity
tower crane family. The product was manufactured
at the plant in Fontanfredda-Italy and the design was
made based on the requirements of Terex tower crane
users with high lifting capacity, ease of installation,
operator comfort and site security kept in mind. The
design of CTL 650 F45 is suitable for lifting operations
at urban construction works and power stations with
a maximum lifting capacity of 45t, 65m extra long jib
size and Terex’s new generation EVO15 operator cabin.
Other superb specifications are: Folding platform
and A-frame press design allowing transportation
with a single standard trailer reduce the costs.
Automatic slewing unit lubrication system decreases
maintenance time. In addition, a third lifting drum
can be used as service crane during assembly. The
new CTL650 F45 is designed for both heavy lifting
and high winding capacity with single- and doubleequipment options. The word “F” in the name of the
crane is a referral to Ferrucio Moritsch by Terex, who
was considered as a leader in tower crane industry,
especially for luffing tower cranes, and passed away in
2011.
