Tis the Season for
Fresh Fruits
and Vegetables
Midway through the school year, the student councils
of Armour School and Holden School met to discuss a
way to work together and form a community partnership while raising money for a great organization. A
plan for Stuck for a Buck was hatched, and Armour
School held their event on April 19. Assistant Principal
Ms. Hartless, and math teacher, Mr. Rinconeno, volunteered to be the targets of whipped cream pies while
duct taped to the doors of the building.
Pictured with Alderman Balcer: Jim Abete, Kim Shviraga, Kathy Abete, Cindee Mitchell, Maria RicobeneAbete, Phil Abete, Colleen Williams, Tony Abete and John Anderson.
Student Council members from Holden came to Armour to cheer on the students as pies were hurled at
their favorite staff members. Armour Students raised
$675 for Easter Seals Therapeutic School and Center
for Autism Research.

On June 2, 2012, the Sisters of St. Casimir, the SSC Associates, and those who had
come for the monthly Mass praying for the Beatification of Venerable Maria Kaupas,
joined together in a Breast Cancer Awareness Prayer Walk.
The short walk was held on the SSC Motherhouse grounds, 2601 W. Marquette Rd.
and was held in memory of Mother Maria, who had suffered from the disease and all
who have struggled or are presently struggling with this illness.
The unique walk allowed the infirmed Sisters the opportunity to join with the
greater community to encourage breast cancer awareness through prayer and action.
All the wheelchairbound Sisters had their
“drivers,” those with
walkers and canes had
their assistants. Pink
balloons, leis and ribbons were distributed.
Pink flags marked the
way. Special hymns
and prayers were reverently sung and recited.
The event was organized by the Sisters
of St. Casimir Associates.

The Chicago Bach
Ensemble at St. Jerome
Church Tomorrow
The Chicago Bach Ensemble opens Cycle 2 of its
Bach Cantata Project with a performance at St. Jerome
Church, 2823 S. Princeton Ave. The performance will
be held on Thursday, June 28th at 8pm.
On the program are four cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach. Vocal text and translations will be displayed
on a screen during the concert. A special treat this cycle
will be the guest appearance by baritone Levi Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez, who has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Houston
Grand Opera and the San Francisco Opera and is featured at Grant Park later this summer, will be singing
the solo bass cantata BWV 56.
The Chicago Bach Ensemble, a group of roughly
twenty musicians consisting of an orchestra, a vocal ensemble, organist and a conductor, was formed with the
idea of presenting the sacred music of J.S. Bach in the
space it was originally intended for - a church - and to
the people it was originally intended for - the community of that church. The composer faced many hardships
during his life but always remained true to his desire
for the ultimate light. His cantatas carry the expression
of this desire.
Please come, listen and be elevated.

Fire Safety
at Armour School
Open House at Kiddy Kare
Why do people hurt the ones they love?
Find out.
Armour School would like to thank Firefighter Brian
Johnson for visiting our primary classrooms. He talked
to the children about fire safety and prevention. He
brought along some of the equipment and clothing that
firefighters use on the job. The students were very interested and engaged in the presentation. Mr. Johnson
answered all their questions, distributed some smoke
alarms and let the students try on some of the equipment. Thank you, Firefighter Johnson for sharing part of
your busy day with us!

DAILY PRAYER TO ST. ANTHONY- I salute
you, great St. Anthony, and rejoice at the favors which our Lord has so liberally bestowed
on you. I remind you especially of that
blessed moment when the Divine Infant Jesus
condescended to embrace and fondly caress
you. Oh, what great happiness & joy must
have filled your heart on that occasion! By
this special privilege & by the joy of your innocent vision by which you now behold Him
face to face, I beg, entreat, and conjure you, O
dear St. Anthony, to help me in my afflictions,
troubles & anxieties, particularly concerning
(mention troubles and desires.) Oh let your
heart be moved to intercede for me, to hear &
answer me. Tell our Lord of the wants and the
necessities of your devoted client. One word,
one sigh from your heart, which Jesus loved
so much, will crown my success and fill me
with joy and gratitude. Amen

Here’s how to read your bill. Visit cookcountytreasurer.com or
cookcountypropertyinfo.com and:
• Click “View Taxing Districts Financial Statements”
• Enter your 14-digit Property Index Number (PIN)
• Click the icon beside each agency name to display its financial information
That information includes budget and debt figures for your municipality, school district, police and fire districts, library district and other units of government, along with the rate of
salary increases and the levy (tax) for each taxing agency – with a percentage figure of levy
growth over 10 years.
The data available through cookcountytreasurer.com or cookcountypropertyinfo.com
contains the following information for 526 taxing agencies across Cook County:
• Local government budgeted revenues
• Local government outstanding debt and pension debt
• Local government 10-year-levy (taxing) history
• Percentage of levy (taxing) change over 10 years
• Rate of return on investments
• Rate of salary increases
We give you this information online and on your bill because you have a right to see the
numbers that make up what you pay. Our latest calculations show the governments of Cook
County owe at least $140 billion for pensions and other costs, money which will come out of
our payments and our future.
A note: 24 agencies have not fully reported their data, as required by the Debt Disclosure
Ordinance which was passed by the Cook County Board of Commissioners. We are working
with these agencies to comply with the DDO before they are compelled to do so.
Meanwhile, read your bill when you receive it.
