FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Merry Christmas!
It is with Jesus Joy, that I welcome you to another edition of The Corinthian Voice.
So many people want to take Jesus out of Christmas, but I declare today and always that there can be no
Christmas without Jesus.
The Lord has brought us to the close of another year. It has been a very challenging year for all of us. But in
spite of everything he has continued to show us mercy. Without God our Father, you and I never would
have made it.

Finally, I pause to say thank you for all the hard work. You’ve given of your time, and your talents; your
tithes and offerings. We absolutely cannot stop now, the more we give to God,
the more He gives to us.
I am expecting God to do the unexpected… in 2015. Are you, Saints, ready to serve God like never before?
Because that is what it’s going to take … a commitment to do your best!
I believe that I will see many of you blessed like never before!

Break Every Chain - Annual Women’s Day Conference

need, and I know what it is
to have plenty. I have
learned the secret of being
content in any and every
situation, whether well fed
or hungry, whether living in
plenty or in want. I can do
all things through Christ
who gives me strength.”
Philippians 4:12-13
Have you ever been in a dry
place in your life and felt like
God had forgotten all about
you? You pray about a
change, yet your change
just does not seem to come.
Have you ever had way
more bills than money to
make your ends meet? But
no matter what you do, you
just can't seem to get
ahead. Have you ever had a
wayward child who broke
your heart because they
made some bad choices
trying to find their own way?
Although you gave them all
that you had, yet, they still
could not get their life
straight. And their bad decisions corrupted their life and
yours. Or how about a
spouse that worked every
ounce of your patience, and
your happily ever after fairy
tale marriage is barely
hanging on by a thread?
You pray that God will
change them, but they are
still getting on your last
nerve. And God decides
that He will change you
instead, so that you can
accept your spouse for who
they are. At some time or

another, we have all had
some struggles. We have all
had challenges that made
us question our faith in God.
Life has a way of knocking
the breath out of us. We can
get so boggled down by
worries and our struggles,
that we lose sight of God
being our keeper. We can
allow our storms to hinder
our praise to God, and we
forget that God can speak
one word, and calm our
storms. We become broken.
We become bound up with
dealing with life. And before
we know it, we are prisoners of our struggles. We
allow the chains of life to
shackle us to our past. We
allow the chains of life to
shackle us to our pain. We
become content in our
struggle. And that is the why
this year’s Women's Day
Conference entitled Break
Every Chain, was especially
awesome because we need
God to break every chain in
our life. There is something
about the power of prayer.
But there is uniqueness
when the women of God
come together on one accord to worship and fellowship. Our conference kicked
off on Saturday morning at
8:30 AM with registration in
the fellowship hall. Then, at
the 9:00 AM Minister Pam
Robinson led praise and
worship along with the
CMBC Praise Team in the
sanctuary. Our mission
statement was given by our
VOICE
very own First Lady, Minister
Deborah Reeves. Then we
preceded to our various workshop classes. Workshop I was
for the married women.
Deaconess Phillermena
Carter was the facilitator, and her subject
was The Chain
Breaker. Deaconess Carter taught
about how as
believers we know
that Christ died on
the cross and
freed us from our
bondage. Yet there are a
lot of Christian women today
being held hostage to a variety
of things in our everyday lives.
She taught how when we allow
these things to hold us hostage it hinders us from having
a closer relationship with
things to hold us hostage it
hinders us from having a
closer relationship with Christ,
and keeps us from living productive lives. She reminded
her class how Satan has come
only to steal, kill and destroy.
And the scare tactics that he
uses to keep us bound are low
self-esteem, addictions,
jealousy and broken hearts.
But she gave her class hope
when she boldly proclaimed
that Jesus is the Chain
Breaker. And because of Him
we can walk in our liberty
when we identify our obstacles
and overcome through belief,
glorifying God, finding in God,
being dedicated to prayer and
having a heart for God. Workshop II was for the single

women. Minister Mary
Moore was the facilitator,
and her subject was Chains
that Bind Us. Minister
Moore taught that women
are too scattered, too distracted and too burdened
down with the cares and
pleasures of life. And because of this, faith has no
time or place to take root
and grow in us. She shared
that we have
many things in
our lives that
control us and
makes us feel
“unclean”. Things
such as an illness, depression, a marriage
that ended in
divorce, being
single in a society that is geared
towards family
and past failures can take
hold of our lives and make
us want to give up. She
taught how as single women, we can sometimes feel
isolated, even in church.
Her class focused on the
woman with the issue of
blood and how she too felt
isolated. But the woman
had heard about Jesus and
she risked everything to get
to the man who she knew
could heal her. The woman
took a chance. The woman
had single-minded faith with
nothing to lose. She believed that if she could just
touch the hem of his garment she would be healed.
Minister Moore asked her
class this question. What
are you willing to go through
to get your healing and
breakthrough? Workshop III
was for our young ladies, 12
-17 years of age with guest
facilitator, Deaconess Charlotte Price, from Triedstone
Missionary Baptist Church.,
and her subject was, Take a
Stand. She shared the im-
portance of our young ladies standing for what they
believe in as young Christians. After our awesome
classes, we joined for a
wonderful lunch prepared
by Sister Marie Pollard and
the kitchen staff. And then
we attended our conference
play written and directed by
Sister Rochelle Strong entitled, “You can do it”. Starring Sister Cynthia Tolliver,
Sister Shaneka Tolliver,
Deaconess Annette Evans
and First Lady Joyce Mason, from Alpha and Omega
First Baptist Church in
Youngstown, Ohio. This
was a play of healing, deliv-
erance and restoration. It
was an awesome production. We also had many
vendors at this Saturday
event. And then we climaxed our celebration on
Sunday November 2, 2014
at our 9:40 AM service. We
were blessed by First Lady
Jowanda Thomas, from The
Truth Church right here in
Columbus, Ohio. First Lady
Thomas blessed
us with her testimony of being a
breast cancer
survivor. And she
taught from our
theme scripture
Philippians 4:1213, and pricked
our ears and
hearts by telling
us that sometimes
we all need an
attitude adjustment. Lady Thomas left us
with something to think
about. The 2014 Women's
Conference was a blessing.

Tithing - Your gift to your church

Many Christians struggle with the issue of tithing. Some refuse to submit to the
biblical exhortations about making offerings to the Lord. Tithing/giving is intended to be a joy and a blessing. Sadly, that is sometimes not the case in the church
today.
Beginning January 4, 2015, Elder Reeves will hold a 90-day Tithing Challenge.
He is challenging all CMBC members to tithe, faithfully, 10 percent of their salary
from January to March, 2015. All members will be asked to walk down to the
front of the church during the tithes and offerings segment. It takes three weeks
to start a habit or routine. Elder Reeves is giving his congregation three months
to continue or begin to strengthen our relationship with God. Hallelujah!

Men’s Day Celebration

The Men of Corinthian
Missionary Baptist Church
held their annual Men’s Day
on Sunday, November 15.
Brother Duane Mullins,
worship leader, kicked off
the day with a warm
welcome and then introduced the CMBC men’s
choir, who sang a few
spiritual hymns throughout
the service. Deacon Mackenzie gave a strong testimony about church members and was quoted as
saying, “We, Columbus, we
are sleeping.” He went on to
say that as church
members it is the men’s
responsibility to step up in
the church and make a difference there and in the
community.
Next, Brother Mullins introduced Brother James
Woods, who performed a

Brother Tommie Brown,
who introduced the guest
speaker, Dr. A.L. Owens.
Dr. Owen’s sermon was
entitled, “Why Evil Men Prosper. Why Good Men Suffer.”
Dr. Owens told the congregation to not be angry about the
prosperity of the ungodly and
to thank God for what you
have.
Brother Wyche closed out the
praise portion by singing
Holiness.

Dr. Michael Drake, Current OSU President

On January 30, 2014, The
Ohio State University Board
of Trustees today announced its, 15th President, Michael V. Drake. Dr.
Drake is the first African
American President in the
history of Ohio State University. He replaced former
President, Gordon Gee.
President Drake has an
appreciation for Ohio because his mother was from
Youngstown. President
Drake was born on July 9,
1951 in New York City.
He is an alumnus of Stanford University (BA) and UC
San Francisco (MD). While
being a Chancellor at University of California, Irvine,
since 2005.
He was also a Distinguished
Professor Ophthalmology
(School of Medicine) and
Education (School of Education). Ophthalmology is the
branch of medicine concerned with the study and
treatment of disorders and
diseases of the eye. Dr.
Drake was over the first new
public law school in California in over forty years. Dr.
Drake has also launched
programs in public health,
nursing science, and pharmaceutical sciences.
He is a supporter of athletics.
He sits on the NCAA’s Board
of Directors that incorporates
18 university chief executives
and acts as intercollegiate
athletics’ leading governing
body. At Ohio State, he will
be involved with the athletics

Ms. Aleese Chante Butler - Urbana University

Ms. Aleese Chante Butler is the daughter of Joni Butler. She was baptized by Elder Reeves
at a very young age. Aleese was also very active in church. She attended Corinthian Bible
Institute, and Youth Church. She was a Youth Choir Member, an usher and candy striper. She
also was a youth mime.
In her senior year at Gahanna Lincoln High School she was offered an Athletic Scholarship
to attend Urbana University in the fall of 2014. Aleese's position on the team is Middle Block.
In the Mountain East Conference the Blue Knight's ranked fourth this past season!
At Urbana University, Aleese, majors in Exercise Science which is the study of the connection between physical and mental wellness, exercise, and nutrition. She is working toward a career in
sports psychology or athletic training. Aleese is, currently, on the Dean's List with a 3.75 GPA.

Let’s make this ongoing fundraiser a success by bringing our recyclables to the church
and depositing them in the green and yellow bin! The bin is located on the west side of
the church, near the pantry entrance.

Don’t Let The Holidays Get You Stuffed
by Sis Melissa Wilson
Do you love holiday food? I sure do. Pumpkin pie, turkey, cranberry sauce and more. I’ll take all of it--even the Brussels Sprouts. But, like you, I don't want to get stuffed, or overdo it this year (or any year), and I want to save room
for a slice of pie. So, I took advice from a top nutrition expert, Sarah Jio, to give us tips for a eat-this-not-that plan for
our Christmas and upcoming holiday meals.
Here are some tips for choosing wisely this holiday season:
Nuts: They're your friend. Limit yourself to one serving (about a small palm full) before the big meal, and you will
eat less food later.

and salt and pepper instead, and you'll have a much healthier dish.
Eggnog: Yes, it's pretty rich, but it also has a lot of nutrients, like protein and calcium. So don't deprive yourself
of your favorite holiday treat. Just have a half cup, which will save you 200 calories. You can also cut with a
little skim milk. It's always best to dilute it a bit.
Pie: Put simply, choose apple or pumpkin. Sorry, pecan pie is a dieter's death trap. Also, skip the whipped cream
and ice cream. Pie is delicious without the trimmings!
