Martin A. Snyder ’61, Keynote Speaker
The Inside Story on Energy
Marty Snyder has graciously agreed to share with us
his work as Executive Director of the Hydrogen
Fusion Center of NYU’s Courant Institute.
Bringing together scientists from the nuclear
fields of both fission and fusion (most of whom
had never met), he has been seeking advances
leading to our ultimate energy solutions. Applying
his business acumen, scientific knowledge, and
outsider’s perspective, Marty has been promoting the
idea of fusion-fission hybrid systems for nuclear waste.
This will open up the possibility of significant nuclear development, so
necessary for the stability of our future energy.
If all this makes your head spin, be assured that with his previous
college teaching experience, Marty will offer an entertaining step-by
step path through the rudiments of nuclear physics and our present
energy configuration (“nuclear energy and power for dummies”). He
will give an overview of the “renewables” picture, and include his view
of where we now are and where we need to go.

The Why and How
Former Board Chair Rush Haines ’61, celebrating
his 50th reunion this weekend, was quite
literally the right man at the right time to serve
Episcopal in that capacity. A real estate lawyer
by day, he dedicated countless hours and
innumerable brain cells to making the move
from Merion to Newtown Square possible.
From settling on the land to negotiating the sale
of the Merion and Devon sites to the exhaustive
(and exhausting) master planning process, it was Rush’s tenacious
leadership, laser-like focus and purposeful approach to the project that
in large measure made Episcopal’s new campus a reality. Hear him tell
