ATTENDANCE REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES
TARDY POLICY
At Cibola High School, students who are not in their assigned
classrooms, seats, or activities before the bell rings, and do not have
a pass, will be considered tardy. Tardy students are not allowed to
enter their class and are to report to the “Tardy Sweep Room” for the
remainder of that class period. The sweep room monitor will
supervise tardy students and make record of their attendance in the
tardy sweep room. Failure to report to the “Tardy Sweep Room” will
constitute an absence, and the students will be considered truant.
After five tardies in a semester, students are referred to
administration for further disciplinary action. Students who are more
than 10 minutes late for a class will be considered absent for that
period and should report to the Attendance Office for a pass to class.
This situation will count towards a student’s unexcused absence
total.
CLASS SCHEDULES
The master schedule is developed from student requests during
registration in the spring semester. Tentative class schedules are
distributed to registered students during August registration.
The only valid reasons for schedule changes are:
 Changes needed to justify graduation requirements.
 Changes necessary due to the failure of a pre-requisite course.
 Changes required for health reasons. (Doctor verification
required)
 Changes required because of completion of summer school or
correspondence courses.
 Changes required because of course conflicts appearing on
computer schedule.
 Changes required because of an Exceptional Student Services
Individual Education Plan.
DETENTION
Tuesday and Thursday
2:36 – 4:36 p.m
Room 721
Detention will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in Room
721 beginning at 2:36 p.m. Students who are not on time to the
detention room will be marked absent and referred back to the
person who assigned the detention. Students are expected to attend
detention on the date assigned to avoid further disciplinary action.

ACADEMIC INFORMATION
Teachers have the responsibility to develop grading procedures and
establish necessary criteria to fit their grading system. Grades are
based upon the following percentages with their grade point value
being determined by the level of class and grade earned:
Regular
AP Courses
A = 90 – 100%
4 points
5 points
B = 80 – 89%
3 points
4 points
C = 70 – 79%
2 points

D = 60 – 69%
1 point

F / NC
0 points
0 points
Credit is given for grades of A, B, C, and D, but F and NC do not
receive credit. An “I” indicates incomplete and means that the
student was unable to complete work due to circumstances beyond
his/her control. It is the responsibility of the student to complete work
within two weeks or a failing grade will be issued. NC’s indicate the
student passed the class but did not meet attendance requirements.
LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER
The Library Media Center is open before, during and after school.
Students must have a written pass from a teacher during class time.
Library rules are posted and enforced along with school policies.
Students may check out up to three books with a current student ID.
Books are checked out for 2 weeks. Overdue book fines are 10 cents
per day. Students who have lost books will be charged the
replacement cost of the item plus an administrative fee.
Library computers are for educational purposes only – no social
networking sites, music, games, videos, chat or other
inappropriate activities. No electronic equipment may be used in
the library.
Printing and photocopying fees are 10 cents per page for black and
white copies and 25 cents per page for color copies. Blank CDs may
be purchased at the Circulation Desk.
Library catalog and databases may be accessed at school or from
home. Bookmarks are available in the library with the passwords.
Library home page may be accessed at http://merlin.yumaed.org.
SCHOLARSHIPS
In the past years, Cibola High seniors have received millions of
dollars in college scholarships. There are many local, state, and
national scholarships. Visit the Cibola High Counseling Office to

scholarships:

FINANCIAL AID
Financial aid packets are available in the counseling office. Many

income of the family during the past year. Check with your counselor
for help with these applications, and a financial aid workshop will be
offered in the fall.
ACADEMIC RECOGNITION
Cibola High School feels very strongly about recognizing students for
their achievements. Academic recognition includes Honor Roll (3.5
GPA or above), A-Team (students with a weighted GPA of 4.0 or
above and no grade lower than a B for a grading period),
Renaissance Program (all A’s, all A’s and B’s), Academic Hall of
Fame (high college entrance exam test scores), and National Merit
Scholarship winners.
Students who meet the criteria of scholastic, leadership, service, and
character are encouraged to seek membership in the Cibola High
School Chapter of the National Honor Society.
REPORT CARDS
Progress report cards will be sent home with students at the end of
the first two marking periods of each semester so that parents and
students may monitor grades, school attendance, and eligibility for
extra-curricular activities. Report cards with semester grades will be
mailed home at the end of the fall and spring semesters. Semester
grades are calculated by the following method:
•
•

BOOKSTORE
The Cibola High Bookstore is located on the main courtyard mall.
Students may pay fees and purchase school items during business
hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Student ID is required in the
Bookstore.
STUDENT ID CARDS
Student ID cards are necessary to conduct business in all areas of
the school. Students are required to get and carry a valid ID card
at all times while on campus or at school-sanctioned functions.
Students must present the card to any district staff member
upon request. A student that does not carry it or refuses to
present it upon request will be considered Insubordinate, which
is a Class Four Violation.
ID cards will be available for purchase at registration. If an ID card is
lost, stolen, or damaged, the student must immediately purchase a
new ID. Replacement IDs will be purchased and issued in the
bookstore.
Modifying or altering an ID card is a Class Four Violation and will
result in the card being confiscated, and the student will be required
to purchase a new one.
NON-EDUCATIONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Students may possess cell phones, iPods, CD players and
walkmans on school property and school-sponsored activities.
Students may NOT turn on or use them on school grounds until the
end of the official instructional day. It is the students’ responsibility to
ensure that they are turned off and out of sight during the
instructional day. Electronic devices may be confiscated if this
policy is not followed. The campus is NOT responsible for items
stolen, lost, or damaged. The owner assumes all risks for noneducational electronic items and personal property brought to school.
The campus will NOT compensate for any item confiscated, lost,
stolen or damaged.
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
Cibola High School is proud to offer a wide variety of opportunities
for students to participate in extra-curricular activities. We believe
that these activities are vital to the educational development of the
students and are designed to satisfy the recreational, social, and
extended academic needs and interests of all students. For more
information about clubs, or to get information needed to start a new
club, contact a Student Council representative or stop by the Cibola
Activities Office.

Student vehicles that do not have stickers must be parked in
legal parking off campus.
1. Stickers must be permanently affixed to the lower left-hand
corner of the windshield of the vehicle to which it is assigned.
2. Students may only request one sticker at a time. Should the
vehicle be sold or another vehicle is used, the original parking
sticker should be presented to the Athletics Department and
another sticker will be issued.
3. Lost stickers will be replaced for a $2.00 charge.
4. Violations of driving/parking regulations will result in the loss of
parking privileges.
5. Students who bring their vehicles to school do so at their own
risk. The school is not responsible for loss or damage to any
vehicles while they are parked or operated in the parking areas.
6. Students may not go to their vehicles until their classes are
finished for the day.
7. Any vehicle while on campus is subject to search if it is
determined that the vehicle may contain items that are of harm to
