Kindergarten News…
One of my students collected and submitted $144.00
for the Leukemia Pennies for Patients. We will attend
the Pumpkin Patch this October. Pre K C101 created
beautiful leaves for their Fall wreaths, celebrating the
first day of Fall.
We are busy learning about synonyms and verbs.
Thanks to all the parents who return homework and
behavior charts daily . Please continue to stress the
importance of good behavior in
school.

2nd Grade News…
As the season changes and the temperature begin to
FALL... We are SUPER EXCITED about learning parts of
speech as well increasing our vocabulary skills. Read daily
for ten to fifteen minutes. Parents, please send the K-2 Primary Journal no later than Friday, Oct 2nd. This is an important item for our class. Thank you in advance.
The end of the quarter is approaching fast. Quarterly exams will be given October 5th—October 9th. Please assist
your child with studying for their quarterly exams. The
second quarter starts immediately after exams and our
work will become more rigorous. Please assist your child
with all work.

3rd Grade News…
Ending the 1st Quarter Strong!
Math Review Skills: To end the 1st Quarter we will be sharpening our understanding of the
Distributive Property and Problem Solving Using Units of 2-5 and 10.
Sample Problem: Davie used the distributive property to solve a multiplication problem. Look at his work below, write
the multiplication problem Davie solved and complete the number bond. Learning Artifacts
(5 x 4) + (3 x 4) = 9 x 4
Science Review Skills: In science we will be reviewing the stages of matter, scientific method, force, motion, and sim-
ple machines.
4th Grade Thank you
to all of the parents who attend-
ed the STAR meetings, on last week, to discuss your child’s
progress thus far. The meetings were very productive and
we can already see students working harder to reach each
fourth grade goal. If you were unable to attend these meeting and you missed Open House, please call the school to
schedule an appointment to meet your child’s teacher. It is
critical to your child’s success that all parents and teachers
are working closely together to ensure grade level success.
Please check your child’s black and white notebook each
night. You will be able see the work students are learning
and completing in class. Most tests are coming from the
work in the black and white composition notebooks. Students should be studying from these notebooks and homework practice sheets each night. Studying will help your
child to remember what has been taught and improve test
grades.
4th Grade News...
Tech Tips from the Tech Coach
During Technology Night @ Mahalia Jackson
Elementary, our parents and students took a quiz
using ActiVotes, our interactive student response
system. The quiz helped them understand the various devices available to our students and how they
are used to facilitate learning. They also worked
cooperatively to complete a research project about
Mahalia Jackson. After conducting their research,
they used Big Huge Labs or PowerPoint to create a
presentation about Mahalia Jackson. The students
and parents presented their work together.
To ensure that Limited English Proficient (LEP) parents and guardians gain meaningful access to
information that the District provides about its programs and activities for parents and guardians,
two interpreters/translators are available for parents.

Parents’ Rights in Education
Title I, under the
“No Child Left Behind Act”,
is the nation’s largest federal assistance programs for schools.
The goal of Title I is to help every child get a high-quality education. Title I funds are directed toward
students who need them the most.
The aim of Title I is to raise school accountability, provide more financial flexibility, set goals, improve
teacher quality, provide school choice and make school safer.
As a parent of a student in a Title I school, you play an important role in your child’s education. You
have the right to know how your child’s school is performing and the qualifications of their teachers.
