Project:
Kvaerner Masa-Yards is part of the joint shipyard
management company of Aker Kvaerner and Aker RGI.
With 16 500 employees and a turnover of approximately
2.5 billion Euro, Aker Kvaerner Yards is the largest
European shipbuilding company and the fourth largest
worldwide.
Installation:
Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Helsinki and Turku has been
trusting in Armaflex for five years now. Armaflex is the only
elastomeric insulation material to be used on the cooling
water pipes of the air-conditioning system and on the
refrigeration lines needed for storing food and cooling
drinking water on the luxury cruise ships.
The shipyard in Helsinki uses only NH/Armaflex. The nonhalogen insulation material is the only product to fulfil the
high demands of CCL (Carnival Cruise Lines) and Costa
Cruises. NH/Armaflex is produced without the addition of
chlorides and bromides (i.e. without halogens). In the event
of a fire, potential problems of toxicity can therefore be
ruled out to the greatest possible extent. In order to
eliminate potential weak points in the insulation around
pipe hangers, the Armafix pipe hanger has also been used
since 2001. This pipe hanger guarantees that no thermal
bridging occurs between the pipe and hanger and prevents
condensation and unnecessary energy losses.
Matti Örnmark, who is responsible for insulation at the
Kvaerner shipyard in Helsinki, says: “We chose Armacell
as our business partner not only because of its excellent
products; the service is outstanding, too. The dimensioning
of the insulation thicknesses, the requested certificates,
training for insulators, technical seminars for the engineers
of the shipping companies, immediate answers to technical
questions and a very good delivery service through the
Finnish wholesaler Onninen Oy - that all goes to make up
our successful cooperation.”
