State of the City 2014

The Picerne Group is constructing Aria:
198 upscale apartments built to condominium
standards at Bloomfield and Artesia
The renovation of Cerritos Plaza is underway and is
expected to be completed in spring 2015
The Los Cerritos Center installed a solar energy
system with 3,354 solar panels on the mall’s roof
that will produce 1,300 Megawatts of power,
enough energy to power 120 homes for one year
A new Cerritos Auto Square sign featuring the
latest technology was installed in March
Businesses have opened at the remodeled
Fountain Plaza, including the 85°C Bakery Cafe
The Cerritos Library Teen Studio has served 17,255 teens
since opening in September 2013
1,980,542 people are served by the City’s
parks/programs every year. Cerritos has 25 parks
and recreation facilities, plus classes, special
events and excursions.
Playgrounds at Joe A. Gonsalves Park and the Cerritos Sports
Complex were recently resurfaced with
ADA-compliant material. A project to improve Heritage Park
will be completed in June.
The City sponsored a benefit concert for the Philippines
that raised $51,000 for relief efforts by the American Red
Cross for victims of Typhoon Haiyan
The COW service was enhanced with
the launch of a new app that allows
real-time tracking of the buses
“Infinity 2” by sculptor Cliff Garten will be installed in the
Cerritos Sculpture Garden. The cost was paid for by
the development community.

Redevelopment Dissolution Litigation
• The State of California dissolved
redevelopment agencies effective
February 1, 2012
• A total of 173 lawsuits have been filed
against the State of California related to
the dissolution of redevelopment.
• The City of Cerritos is a plaintiff in three
of the lawsuits and is a real party to two
additional lawsuits.

Retail Sales Recovering from the
Recession
• Overall retail sales in Cerritos are
estimated to remain steady at
$2.735 billion in Fiscal Year 2013-2014
• Cerritos Auto Square sales are estimated
to improve as follows:
5% increase in Fiscal Year 2013-2014
4% increase in Fiscal Year 2014-2015
Kaiser Permanente recently opened the full-service
Cerritos Medical Offices in a 50,000-square-foot building
Automotive Sales Trends
• New car registrations in California increased
by 11.9% in 2013 compared to 2012. (The
total was 65% greater than the recessionary
low point in 2009.)
• California car sales are expected to increase
by 5.2% in 2014.
• Nationwide, 15.6 million cars were sold in the
United States in 2013; the best sales year
since 2007.
• From January 1 through May 27, 2014, the
Cerritos Auto Square sold 22,098 vehicles.
