The Hospitality Team continues to play an active role in a
busy market but has noticed some changes that seem to
reflect the macro economic situation of the nation. The
outlook for economic growth in New Zealand over the
next 6 to 12 months is looking increasingly poor. Some
segments within the hospitality portfolio continue to take
longer to move than others. Our findings show that well
run businesses achieving industry best practice ratios
can still achieve ratios of 3 times EBITDA.
The local economy has seen some room for optimism
with factors such as the tight labour market and some
export gains being encouraging. The problem is however
that the Governor of the Reserve Bank is running a very
tight monetary policy and net migration (most notably in
the wealthy investor migrant category) has reduced the
pool of inbound investors and capital.
