What is Street Bikers United Hawaii, Inc? An ORGANIZATION that works on behalf of all
motorcyclists in the state of Hawaii, promoting motorcycle safety and protecting motorcyclists
from legislation that may negatively affect the right to ride free. The optional helmet law, affordable
motorcycle insurance, and the ability to build and register your custom ride in Hawaii are just a
few reasons why your support of Street Bikers United Hawaii, Inc is so important. Street Bikers
United Hawaii, Inc is not a club but an organization that is open to all riders, regardless of club
affiliation or type of motorcycle you choose to ride. Your membership donation goes to fight
anti-motorcyclist legislation in Hawaii. Continue to ride free.

STREET BIKERS UNITED HAWAII, INC 2
WELCOME OUR NEW VICE PRESIDENT
OAHU CHAPTER
KEN HARMEYER
Hello,
Please let me introduce myself. I am Ken Harmeyer, the
new Vice President of the Street Bikers United Oahu
Chapter. I am also the new SBU Oahu calendar coordina7
tor. If you have something you want put on the calendar
please let me know and it will be done.
I have been a member of SBU for several years, and I be7
lieve in what we are doing. I feel if you don’t get involved
you don’t have a reason to complain. I have been involved in local politics for many years,
and have seen what politicians will do if they are allowed to get away with it.
I do not believe the government has a right to tell me what I can wear when I ride. If I
want to wear slippers a tank top, shorts and no helmet, that is my business. I don’t want
the government to tell me what type of muffler I have to put on my bike or where I have to
buy that muffler. Several years ago the City and County of Honolulu tried to pass a law
requiring motorcyclist to buy OEM mufflers. That means you would have to go to the
dealer to get your muffler. Forget mufflers that sound good if a law like that ever passes.
Many States and cities have motorcycle only checkpoints, that is not right. In the past
many companies refused medical insurance to motorcyclist. They would cover a drunk
driver, but not a biker.
These are just some of the reasons I volunteered for the position. I hope I will do a job
worthy of the membership.
I hope you will encourage all of the riders you know to join SBU. Politicians look at num7
bers. They respond to groups who have large numbers, those are the people who will get
them elected. If we have large numbers we can keep the laws for motorcyclist reasonable.
Without the members we will have to put up with whatever the minority wants.
I am also currently the President of the Christian Motorcyclist Assoc. We bless bikes,
pray for people and visit riders in the hospital. We would be glad to pray with you and
your club.
If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to call or e mail me.

STREET BIKERS UNITED
is looking into having a fee to ride in 2013 Toy Parade. We
have a committee that will get all the facts together. It will take some time to do this right. So for
now we are getting all the response from people that are on facebook so far. The good and the
bad. If you don’t know this, The Toy Parade cost anywhere from $10,000.00 to $12,000.00 to put
together. We must pay Policemen, Safety Systems, Insurance, Park Fee, Permits. We do get donations from people, but never enough. We go around Magic Island asking for a $2.00 donation,
would you believe people won’t even put in $2.00. Figure $2.00 x 5,000 bikes = $10,000.00, that
would be a big help. We lucky to get $3,000.00
I've been Oahu chapters secretary for a couple of years now and haven't witnessed anything like that. We are not a
'club' but more of a lobbying group whose purpose is to educate and defend bikers rights. When bills come up during
legislation, its our reps who are there getting support in our favor...keep us riding free. ..free to choose how we ride and
free to choose what alterations we do to our stocked bikes. The more members we have, the louder our voice will be. As
said before, we are not a club and there is not one person who makes all decisions. Issues are brought before its members, like these conversations with the toy parade, and weighing the input things may change.. or not.
You shouldn't charge for it, there are already T-shirts for sale. This is about the kids and fellowship of riders not money."
I have already moved off island but I think a small fee is fair. for the past three years as a member of the chrome divas
we have helped with donation buckets as riders enter the park. sadly it is chore to get donations. people want show up
and ride but not help monetarily, it's a want something for nothing attitude. the more rooted clubs and associations help
out it's all the others that choose not to.
"It cost SBU over 12 thousand dollars to put on the Toy run, with permits, HPD and safety systems sign and coning off
street, so I think they are just trying to defray the cost. For those that purchase Toy run shirts and bring toys to donate
kudos to you and your support. Checkout the pictures from the Toy run and see how many ride in without toys or purchase t-shirts to support. Maybe they should charge the ones that do not donate toys if they refuse they weren't going
to donate toys anyway...."
"Yeah, I wouldn't mind paying a buck or two on top of the toy"
"Then its no longer charity. We donate our money and toys, if its mandatory it no longer is about people going above
and beyond to help out."
"Ray...why don't you give the riders something for their money, like an organized breakfast, saimin, water, drinks or
snacks. You have them there for 2 - 4 hours, their wanting to eat and drink, but the disorganized breakfast tent you guys
had was a hassle, a long line for a manini breakfast" No can...no can. You could make good money for SBU buy prepurchased breakfast bentos and hot andagi or malasadas or something that would make good sales. Remember...there is
no other concessions open for business, its all yours. 3 to 4+ thousand bikers? with CASH in their pockets, just wanting
this event over so they can ride to go someplace to eat, loss opportunity Ray. I don't know how many bikers were there,
but a customer base like that and you don't make a sale while they are there...missed opportunity."
"I think it's so fun to watch and bringing a toy for the cause is the least we can do.. Charging would be kinda weird.."
"Foolish. many of the bikers are already giving their time, energy and gifts for this cause. All you will accomplish is reducing the turnout for this great cause. Plus...your organizing this event is not the greatest, its becoming more of a hassle than a organized event. We waited over :30 mins just to turn in our toy, standing in line watching the marines throw
the toys into the boxes only to have the volunteers pull it back out and insert it into the proper boxes. Bunch of bozo's all
dressed up and not having a purpose to the cause. Now you want to charge....again Fools."
"If you start charging for this event you wont get a great turnout because some of us already spend at least a 100.00 as
couple for tee shirts donations toys and food."
"Maybe eliminate the parade all together and just find a location that can house all the bikers in one location. Let everyone come and go as they please but charge for food, drink, vendors, etc. Have live music, entertainment, toy drop off,
motorcycle vendors, clothes vendors, accessories, Bike show, contests, etc. An all day event. Just sayin"
