– together, we celebrate the theme for Earth Hour 2012
On Saturday, 31st March 2012 from 8.30 pm to
9.30 pm, iconic landmarks all over the world
switched off essential lights to show their support
for Earth Hour 2012 in a bid to highlight global
climate change. Likewise, in Bandar Putra, the
main lights at IOI Mall and the Corporate Office
were switched off to observe Earth Hour 2012 as
part of our efforts to “switch on” the awareness for
thinking and living green.
Although the dimming of lights is merely a
symbolic gesture, such a single step has
tremendous impact on the planet. It also gives us
greater satisfaction to know that our efforts inspire
people across our townships to take sustainability
actions, and share their commitment to the
environment.

IOI Mall 2012
USHERING THE DRAGON YEAR
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year
celebrations, IOI Mall Bandar Putra,
Kulaijaya organized their annual IOI Mall
Open Lion Dance Competition on the 15th
of January, 2012. The co-organisers for
this event were Persekutuan Wushu, Johor
and Persatuan Wushu, Naga Dan Singa
Long Yi Kulai, Johor.

In the competition, each troupe was given 8 to 10 minutes
to do the performance, accompanied by percussion set
and judged by professional judges. All shoppers and
guests were also entertained by Professional Wushu and
Dragon Dance performances.

The 12 troupes comprised of 5 Malaysian Troupes, 4
Singaporean Troupes and 1 Taiwanese Troupe
competed for cash prizes worth RM3,000.00 along
with trophies and medals.
The objectives of this event were to promote the lion
dance as a healthy cultural and sport and to display the
uniqueness of Chinese cultural activities to the public .

The Competition is divided into 2 categories –
• Junior Body Builder Category for participants aged below
21 years old
• New Talent Category for new faces and those who had
taken part in body-building contests but yet to win.
Altogether, 16 gyms from various places in Johor took part
in this event. They had sent their best talents to compete
for the coveted titles. The 16 gyms were Mr Big Gym, Burly
Gym, Star Gym, San Suria Gym, Ironville Gym, Sure Fit
Gym, GP Gym, Meteor Gym, Bindu Gym, Hyper Gym, KBS
Larkin Gym, Scientex Gym, Excel Gym, Touch Guy Gym, Fit
Gym and Gym Pontian.

The ‘Persatuan Bina Badan & Angkat Berat Johor’ has
specially invited Encik Othman Yahya, who had held the
title Mr Malaysia, Mr Asia and Mr Universe to perform
during the interval session. It was a sensational performance and the crowd went wild with cheers.

The main objective of the event is to discover budding

EVENTS @ THE CLUB
Teambuilding at IOI Palm Villa
Golf & Country Resort
The employees of Shimano Components (M) Sdn Bhd took part
in Training & Teambuilding at IOI Palm Villa Golf and Country
Resort for two weekends, on the 3rd to 4th February 2012 and 10th
to 11th February 2012. There were indoor and outdoor activities.
Indoor activities were held in Palm & Putra Room. Outdoor
activities were held at the Sports Recreation Area. The activities
were held to enable employees get to know each other better
and foster good team spirit.
MSSJ 2012 Ping Pong Competition
Putra Sports Complex played host to 200 students from various
schools all over Johor who came for the Johor Ping Pong State
Player Selection Competition organized by Majlis Sukan Negeri
Johor. The selection camp lasted for 3 days from 17th to 19th
February 2012. The prize giving ceremony was held on the last
day of the competition.
Diamond Classic Chinese New Year
Golf Tournament 2012
The Annual Diamond Classic Chinese New Year Golf Tournament
was held on the 11th February 2012 at Palm & Putra Golf Course.
This year’s event had received an overwhelming of 102
participants. The golfers had a great time playing golf. The
evening ended with a sumptuous dinner during the prize
giving ceremony.
Johor Fire Department Charity
Golf Competition 2012
The Johor Fire Department organized a Charity Golf Tournament on
the 3rd March 2012, Saturday at IOI Palm Villa Golf & Country
Resort. The event drew a crowd of 126 people at the Palm & Putra
Course. The event closed with dinner treats, prize giving
ceremony and Lucky Draws !
Maybank's Kejohanan Golf 5 Penjuru
Naungan 3 Division
Maybank's Kejohanan Golf 5 Penjuru Naungan 3 Division was
held on the 11th March 2012, Sunday at IOI Palm Villa Golf &
Country Resort. 44 golfers participated in this event, which lasted
for half day. The prize giving ceremony and lucky draws were
held in the afternoon along with delicious buffet lunch.
Maybank Junior Golf Academy
Maybank Junior Golf Academy organized a special junior golf
class on the 16th to 17th March 2012. Mr. Steven Hiew from Solid
Golf Driving Range gave basic golf lessons to 50 children aged
ranging from 6-12 years old. These children had never played
golf before. Participants that showed golfing potential were
considered for a place in the Maybank Junior Champions Academy.
