As seen in the photo above of our 20 year partnership celebration, we were able to spend the New Year in the beautiful
Florida Keys with our partners (the Biglia family) who visited from Italy. It was interesting to compare notes as to the industry
movement and expected growth for 2013. The Eurotech machines are still the top choice in the European market and the US
market is showing every indication of the following suit.
I thought Modern Machine Shop did an excellent job with their article that came out in December, titled Machine Tool
Spending Up Again in 2013. Following is a small clip from this article (see your newsletter email for link to full article):
Since the financial collapse in late 2008, manufacturing has been a leader in the U.S. economic recovery.
Capacity utilization in metalworking facilities is at a high level and has grown at a historically unprecedented rate
for the past three years. Similarly, industrial production has rebounded dramatically from its collapse in 2009.
Production of consumer durable goods is growing at its fastest rate in nearly 20 years. The significant turnaround
has led metalworking facilities to dramatically increase their levels of equipment and tooling investment. –

On that same note, another article came to my attention just this week from the SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers).
Manufacturing Growth Suggests Economic Expansion Will Continue: The Institute for Supply Management
reported Wednesday that its manufacturing rose to 50.7 in December from a three-year low of 49.5 in
November. Bloomberg News (1/3, Chandra) says the up-tick in manufacturing reflects "growth in orders,
employment and exports" and indicates "the U.S. expansion will be sustained in 2013 following the budget
deal."
The AP (1/2) reports, "There have been some positive signs for factory output. In November, companies
substantially increased their orders for a category of large equipment that reflects their investment plans. That
followed a big increase in the same category in October." -from the Daily Executive Briefing, January 3, 2013
