About Lakeview
Lakeview is one of the most sought after communities on the
Northside. Just minutes from downtown, Lakeview is home to
some of Chicago’s best culture, shopping and dining. In Lakeview
you will find an eclectic mix of “off-Loop” theatres in the Belmont
Theater District; unique shopping and dining in the Southport
Corridor and a vast collection of independent businesses on
Lincoln Avenue. Visit us in the summer months for the Low Line
Market at Southport featuring fruits, vegetables and local sourced
items all made in Chicago. Whether you’re a local, a regular visitor
to Lakeview or someone visiting us for the first time, we hope you
will explore and enjoy our community.
About the Lakeview Chamber of
Commerce & Friends of Lakeview
Spend just $300 at a minimum of five participating
merchants between November 1st and December 31st, 2012

The Lakeview Chamber of Commerce is organized so that the
local business community shall prosper. All necessary means of
promotion shall be provided and particular emphasis shall be
given to retail, professional, educational and economic interests of
the area. The Chamber was originally formed in the late 1960’s as
the Lincoln Belmont Ashland Businessman’s Association with the
primary purpose being to promote the area which was at one time
the most sought after retail district outside of State Street. Today
the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce serves over 300 member
businesses and manages SSA 27.
In 2011, the Chamber in conjunction with SSA 27 released the
award winning Lakeview Area Master Plan or LAMP. Since then,
the organization has focused on building a unique, sustainable
community where people have a desire to live, work and visit
with regularity.
The Friends of Lakeview is a not-for-profit, 501c3 corporation
(application pending) dedicated to the enrichment of the
Lakeview Community. Our mission is to enhance the overall
experience for our businesses, residents and visitors. We will
do this via advocacy, promotion, and fundraising activities
focusing on sustainability, cultural experiences and capital
improvement projects.
Service Area
Our service area is from Diversey on the South, to Irving Park
Road on the North, and Ravenswood on the West, to Racine on
the East.

About Lakeview
Parking & Permits
Parking regulations are strictly enforced throughout Lakeview.
Read signs carefully as restrictions vary between commercial and
residential streets. Parking restrictions are stricter during Cubs
games and special events held at Wrigley Field.
Residential Permit Parking
Most side streets are regulated by residential parking permits or
what is locally known as “the 383”. Parking permits may be
obtained via the City Clerk’s office or the Alderman’s Office. By
obtaining a 383 permit, local residents are allowed to park on side
streets including during Cubs night games. Parking permits must
be renewed every year with the purchase of the yearly city vehicle
sticker. For more information about residential permit parking, visit

Parking Meters
All commercial parking streets are regulated by metered parking.
The meters accept all major credit cards and quarters. Hours of
operation vary so read signs carefully. Meter parking is enforced
on Sundays!

A guide to the new and what to do in Chicago’s Lakeview.
The Music Box Theatre
Opened in 1929, The Music Box Theatre serves as Chicago’s
premier venue for independent and foreign films. With 700
seats, it is the largest theater space operating full-time in the
city. The Music Box Theatre presents 300 films annually,
ranging from provocative documentaries and avant-garde
midnight shows to family friendly sing-a-longs.
The Mercury Theater
The Mercury Theater is an intimate, 290-seat space converted
from the Blaine Theater, a historic silent film nickelodeon
named after former Senator and Secretary of State James G.
Blaine. The Mercury Theater enjoys much critical acclaim and
hosts a number of touring companies, local theater
productions, and small concerts.
The Athenaeum Theatre
Opened in 1911, The Athenaeum Theatre is the oldest
continuously operating off-Loop theater in Chicago. Originally
conceived as a neighborhood playhouse, it now serves as a
cultural resource for the community with five performances
stages used for arts, education, and social services.

The Belmont Theater
The Belmont Theater, designed by Walter W. Ahlschlager, first
opened its doors in 1925. With its close proximity to public
transportation and the bustling Lincoln/Belmont/Ashland
commercial corridor, patrons were drawn to this 3,200 seat
movie palace, which offered both live entertainment and
movies. Today, the cinema is defunct, but you can still see the
original terra cotta façade incorporated into the new building,
which now houses a number of mixed-use spaces.

The Low-Line Farmer’s Market
The Low-Line Market, slated to open in June of 2013 at the
auxiliary exit of the Southport ‘L’ station, is a prepared food
and farmers market that aims at increasing sustainability in
the Lakeview community, while also creating an experience

to a collection of high quality produce, prepared foods and
