Grade 1/2
Under the sea exploration in Grade 1.2 has come to a sad end
with the completion of these posters. The students have spent
time over three weeks, asking questions, researching answers,
designing posters and finally completed these wonderful informative posters. Please enjoy having a look at these wonderful posters.
What a day it was!
Fun and frivolity! Relays, races, marshmallow shootouts and a yummy lunch! What could it be? That’s easy! It
was our annual end of year special event. The threatening clouds meant we moved our event back to school
but this did not dampen the enthusiasm.
Starting just after recess, the whole school F-5 was mixed into multi-age groups and completed three crazy
Christmas rotations. Mrs Reid and Leanne provided plenty of exercise and a memorable tune with their
Twelve days of Christmas relay. Miss Brennan and Ms Webster got into a ‘white winter’ snowball storm (it
was fierce!) before sharpening our aims to stuff a snowman full of marshmallows and using a specially designed marshmallow shooter to sling marshmallows through hoops suspended from the ceiling. And let’s not
forget about Janine and Mrs Godde who were enveloped in a present wrapping frenzy – you should have
seen that paper fly – and candy cane precision that could have rivalled a biochemist! Enormous fun was had
by all.
We headed off to Bell Hall for a rest and munched on a delicious BBQ lunch, kindly donated and prepared by
the Tallangatta Rotary Club. The Club even provided us with a delicious icy treat that was enjoyed by all.
Thank you to this group of hard working community members! We were delighted to have the Tallangatta
Rotary Club involved in our school and hope to continue this association into 2016 and beyond. Be sure to
thank any of this group if you see them out and about!

Tallangatta Students Hit by a ROCKIT!!
They had the students of Tallangatta dancing, laughing and really
thinking about the cyberworld.…
Last week PROJECT ROCKIT, blasted into Tallangatta giving more
than 150 local kids a chance to share and learn together about
interacting in the cyber world.
PROJECT ROCKIT is Australia’s youth driven movement against
bullying, and in 10 years has worked with more than 100,000
students to addresses bullying and cyber-bullying. The national
anti-bullying and cyber safety education program was delivered to
Tallangatta Primary school students from years 3 to 6 in the
morning, and then Tallangatta Secondary school Year 7 and 8
students in the afternoon. Tania Reid heard PROJECT ROCKIT
speak at the Positive Schools Conference in Melbourne in June
this year. After meeting with the speakers she was very keen to
try to arrange for them to speak to students in Tallangatta. The
PROJECT ROCKIT programs empower young people to stand up and equip school students with real
ways they can stand-up to cyber-bullying without putting themselves at risk.
Caitliin and Cassie from PROJECT ROCKIT gave students these Hot tips to stay safe online:
- Difficult conversations should always be had offline
- Using emojis can help to avoid miscommunications
- Passwords should be kept secret
- Don't add “randoms” and keep your profile private
- Think before you post info about yourself or someone else. Would I be okay with my Mum seeing
this?
- Click on the "report abuse" button if you see online abuse
- Reach out: if you or somebody you know are going through hard times, nobody should have to deal
with it alone.
Tallangatta Primary School Year 5 and 6 students commented

“Caitlin and Cassie were so interesting
to listen to!”
“It was really interesting doing the human chain where we could see how
messages can get (inadvertently)
changed!”
What a fantastic opportunity our local students were given!
Pets Parade Day
What a wonderful (and hairy) day! Thanks to all the parents who came to the parade and for bringing their family
pets. From smallest to largest; cutest to scariest, all the
pets did a beautiful “catwalk” to show off their abilities.
Well done to the SRC for organising the special event
and to all the pets, for being so well behaved!
Literacy and Numeracy Corner!
Congratulations:
Congratulations to Kyra and Jacinta Bussau for solving last week’s Christmas maths puzzle! You have been
awarded a small prize for your efforts!
Feedback requested:
Throughout 2015, as Literacy and Numeracy Co-ordinator, I have placed a small article in the newsletter
each week. These articles contained handy hints, quirky facts and puzzles to stretch your thinking. I’d love to
get some feedback regarding these! Are they helpful, useful or even fun to read? Would you like to see more
or less of something? Do you need different sorts of information? Please send me a little note, or give me a
quick call, or catch me at school. I would love to hear your ideas looking forward into 2016!
SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN!
It’s school holiday time again and as always there are lots of different things you can do with your children
that are not only fun but also help promote literacy and numeracy as well. Of course, reading regularly, even
if it is just a few pages, helps students retain their reading skills. Writing a few times a week is also beneficial
and can be loads of fun. And let’s not forget about maths – counting sheep, cars, posts (ANYTHING) to save
us from the “Are we there yet?” car conversation! Art and craft activities open up a whole new world of conversation, problem solving and interest. There are many websites available that offer great ideas – try the
following Google search “craft+kids+activities” and select to your hearts content.
Check out the websites below for some fantastic suggestions or just come up with
your own plans.

Library News
Thank you to those who have returned overdue library books.
As the year is ending I need to do a stocktake of the library books and would like any
borrowed books returned to the tub in the
library please.
Overdue notices have been sent home so
please check if you have any books hiding
under the bed or in the toy box!
If you are sure a book is lost, return the slip
