PACE UNIVERSITY COOPERATIVE EDUCATION AND CAREER SERVICES
Annual Report 2006-2007
Executive Summary
The 2006-2007 academic year was a positive and productive one for the staff of Co-op & Career Services
and resulted in a strong job market for the class of 2007. This report summarizes the activities and events
we were engaged in throughout the year in support of professional career development as well as
employment outcomes as reported to our office. This year we accomplished a major objective with the
acquisition of space for a satellite office in the Kessel Student Center on the Pleasantville campus. This
new location increased our visibility and allowed for much easier access to counselors. We were delighted
to finally secure a location that enables the Pleasantville student body to become more involved in our
programs.
Another major accomplishment of this year was the initiation of the Co-op, Internship & Experiential
Awards open to any student who participated in some form of experiential learning while at Pace. The
award was created to emphasize the importance of learning outside the classroom and to recognize the
accomplishments and personal growth of students who participate in such activities. Faculty members
were asked to nominate students who then submitted an application, essay and letters of recommendation.
Twenty-seven students were nominated and 5 were selected winners by the committee. We look forward
to this award growing in future years as we seek to promote the emphasis on professional education and
linking classroom to careers.
We continue to see an increasing use of the internet for job searching and professional networking. Over
6,000 jobs were posted on our eRecruiting database during the academic year by 2,665 employers; 1,400
of them were new employers requesting access to our students and alumni. More than 39,000 resumes
were submitted for these positions. Starting in July 2007 a major administrative change was made in
response to employers’ requests to post their own jobs directly onto our database.
Outreach to employers this year included our first ever electronic newsletter sent to over 2,000 members of
the business community as well as numerous employer visits and job development activities. Our new
Corporate Sponsorship initiative included adding partnerships this year with Vertrue, Goldman Sachs and
RSM McGladrey totaling almost $10,000 in contributions. Our job fairs continue to grow and attract
employers from diverse industries. In addition, over 20 employers sponsored our career fairs, dining
etiquette dinners and other special events.
Assessment continues to be a major objective. This year we undertook a detailed employer survey to
obtain feedback on the level of our service and Pace students’ readiness for the workplace. We surveyed
only those who actually conducted campus interviews but will expand next year to the larger pool of
employer contacts. 75% rated Pace students’ preparedness for interviews as good to excellent and 85%
rated the overall service from staff at good to excellent. In addition, I secured a Presidential Grant to survey
alumni from the classes of 2002-2005 regarding perceptions of their Pace experience and how they felt
Pace prepared them for their professional lives after graduation. Over 400 responses have been received
and at this time, the data is still being analyzed.
Our staff continued to contribute to the field of career services in different capacities including national and
regional conference and panel presentations, media interviews, professional association participation and
campus, admissions and community activities.
The employment data contained in this report was obtained through individual contact, mail and email
surveys conducted prior to graduation through six months following degree completion. The following
pages offer a window into our students’ successes and the department’s varied activities of the past
academic year.
