FOOTNOTES
January/February 2014
Since last Sunday’s Cross Country race at Saffron Walden the
league tables have been in a state of flux due to some inaccurate accounting!! As Footnotes goes to
press I have the latest results, but they
could all change! If the figures stay the
same then we are in a great position
but with one race still to be run its any-

one's to take the championship. So may I remind you the next
and last event for this season is at Bishops Stortford on Sunday
Feb 16th. We need all members who have a breath in them to
turn up in force as this is the decider!!!

Mar Cyl will be hosting an evening of talent and titillation to raise
money for his chosen charity “The Born Free Foundation” for his
VLM place He is looking for “talented” (and he uses that word
loosely) individuals for the contest. Wither its singing, dancing,
magic, comedy or just
plain silliness Mark wants
to hear from you. A date
for this marvellous event is
still to be confirmed until
he knows availability of the
entered acts. There will
be prizes for the winner
and runners up. If you
think you’ve got what it
takes then give Mark a call on 07825 106602 or drop him an email
for more information to [email protected].

TBC, depending on the date of the Hertford 10k which is likely to clash
with VLM this year. Another possibility is the St Albans 10k or perhaps
another designated parkrun. Watch this space. I'm open to suggestions
too, of course.

BIRTHDAY ANNOUNCEMENT
To celebrate the 7th birthday of our late son James Robert Hamm, on May 26th, we have decided to run the 10k race (Mario) and the 1 mile fun run (Emma and Daniel) in the Hatfield
Broad Oak series. We are hoping to raise money for James’ memorial garden at his school,
Priors Wood, Ware. We would like to invite you to come along and join us to either participate in the main race with Mario (its also a WJ club championship race) or to take part in the
fun run with Emma and Daniel, or to just come along to support. We are really keen to encourage as many friends and family of James and Daniel, as well as teachers, support staff,
parents and hospital staff to take part in the fun run either walking or jogging. Daniela has
already started with his training and if enough interest is shown amongst pupils we are hoping to be able to set up a training session for them at the school. To participate in the main
10k event, entries can be made online prior to the event and the fun run can be entered on
the day and it’s free to do so. To find out more details of the race please go to www.hbo10k.org.uk
You can also contact me, Mario for more information via email at mar-
[email protected] or on my mobile 07931 400967.
There will be an opportunity to make a donation on the day or alternatively any sponsorship
can be handed directly to the school office, or given to Emma or myself. Please remember
that any donations are very much appreciated no matter how big or small. We would also be
grateful if participants could wear a blue top in James’ memory. We’d love to see you there.
Emma, Mario & Daniel Hamm
MEET A JOGGEROO
In each edition of Footnotes I will be bringing you
a Joggeroo so that you can get to know them better. Miss Jan/Feb is:
SARAH MASON
Birthday: December 19th
How long have you been a member of the club?
Since October 2010, so 3 years.
What/Who inspires you to run? Paula Radcliffe, Mo
Farah, Usain Bolt, Terry…...one day I’ll catch them all!!
Probably because I wouldn't know what else to do with
Tuesday and Thursday nights if I didn't run!!
Favorite race and why? I haven't done many races,
but the Royal Parks 1/2 so far, purely for the scenery!
Otherwise I LOVE the propeller run, I'm probably it’s
one and only fan!
Significant others: None—young, free and single and
living life to the full!
Favorite holiday destination and why? I don’t really
go to one place I tend to travel—best holiday yet was 6
weeks inter-railing around France and Spain. If you’ve
never been to the Alhambra Palace (Granada, Spain)
then GO! Absolutely AMAZING—says the history nerd!
Any hobbies? Erm…….running… any form of sport,
reading, visiting (or volunteering in) museums—and I’m
doing an OU degree in history but that’s not really a
hobby!!
Food: Heaven and Hell?
Heaven, my mums roast—especially potatoes. Hell,
sweetcorn—WHY? JUST WHY WOULD YOU WANT
TO EAT THAT??
Drink: Heaven and Hell?
First Friday of the Month
Drinks
Heaven, white wine (not particularly fussy) Hell, vodka, it hates me I hate it.
One interesting
fact that people
may not know
about you: I can
speak German,
had a lovely conversation with a
German grandpa
on a train in Germany. He told
me all about the
C16th castle of
the Rhine.
