ClubandtheBoardMembershaveanobjectiveandthatistoEducate,
EntertainandShareinourexperiencesthroughourcollectivepassionfor
drivingeitheronthetrackorthroughscenicroads.
Ourclubhasbeengrowingwellthesepastyearsandin2012ourmembership
hasincreasedover560members.OurHCPClubactivitieshavealsogrownwith30

deliveredwellorganizedandeducationaldrivingexperiencesfortheclubat
LimeRockParkandatWatkinsGlenInternational.UnfortunatelyforusDon
andJimwishtoretirefromtheirpositionsafterthreeyearsofbuildingupa
strongDriversEducationprogram.Eventhoughtheyarepassingontheir
responsibilities Iamsurewewillcontinuetoseethemonthetrack.Thankyou
DonandJim.OncewewerenotifiedofDon’sandJim’sretirementwe
announcedweweresearchingforreplacements.TheClubBoarddecidedto
makeanoffertoChrisdeGraffenriedfortheTrackChairmanpositionfor2013
andheaccepted.TheClubBoardalsomadeanoffertoAndyDormanforthe
Registrarpositionin2013.PleasewelcomeChrisandAndytotheirnewpositions
andwelookforward tosupportingthemandtheirTrackDEprograms.
TrackMentor–ChrisdeGraffenriedhadvolunteeredtodevelopour
MentoringProgramoverthepastfewyearswherehewouldofferhisassistance
toanyonewishingadviseorhelparoundthetrackorpriortoanyDEevent.
WithChrismovingovertotheTrackChairman,thisMentorpositionopened
andweadvertisedforanyonethatmaybeinterestedinfillingtheposition.Iam
pleasedtoannounceJohnShaferhasvolunteeredtobeMentorin2013andwe
lookforwardtohisassistancetoourclubmembers.
Autocross-AndyDormanour2012AutocrossChairmanhadofferedthree
datesforlowspeedcompetitivedrivingwithgoodattendance.Andywillbe
movingintotheRegistrarpositionandleavingtheAutocrossChairman
positionafter8yearsofmanagingsafecompetitivefun.Thisopenedthe
AutocrosspositionwhichtheboardopenedtotheclubaswedidwiththeTrack

SocialActivities–LydiaMarlowourActivitiesChairpersonwassuccessfulin
formingvolunteersub-committeestoplanandimplementavarietyoffun,food
andfellowshipdrivingactivitiesin2012.Weexperiencedscenicbackroads
throughthenortheastinwellorganizedandsafeevents.Webrokerecordsallyear
longfromgathering27PorschesforourdrivetoSmithandWessoninSpringfield,
MAto94attendeesattheannualPicnicatThacherParktohavingagoodturnout of
97attendeesatourannualdinnerattheEdisonClub.AdditionallyourWeekend
GetawayinSalem,MAwasspookyandenjoyable.Withthemanyplannedevents
eachyearwetypicallypostphotosofeachactivityonourwebsite.Somakesure

attendanceofHCPmemberstoDEevents(makingthemsustainableor
moresustainable).
Thegroupstargetedforthementorprogramwouldbegreenoryellow(possibly
selectwhite)driverslookingtoincreasetheircomfortlevelatDEevents.In
additionthisincludesrecruitingfromthemembershippeoplewhomaybewant
totryaDEeventbutarehesitant.Forexample,onepopulationwhichwould
benefitgreatlyistheautocrossattendeeswhogetatasteofthe“speedbug”and
wanttostepitupanotchbuthaven’tyettriedDE.Remember,Porscheautomobiles
havefarmorecapabilitythancanbeutilizedonthestreet.Ifyouboughtthecar
toimpressyourneighbors,itcansitinthedriveway.Ifyouwantasupreme
adrenalinrush,tryaDEevent.AtmyfirsteventonaSaturdayatLRP,my
kneesdidn’tstopshakinguntilaboutTuesday;Iwashooked.
Thisprogrammaybeespeciallyimportantthisyearsincewearegoingtotryto
increasetheoverallnumberofparticipants.
Increasingthecomfortleveloffirsttimeparticipantswillbeaccomplished
through:
1) Increasingvehiclepreparedness–e.g.thementorwouldgooverachecklist
withthementeebeforethetechinspection,aswellasproviding alistofthingsthey
suggestbringingtotheeventtomaintainthevehicleandthedriver.Thiscould
beeitheroverthephone,bye-mailorinperson.
2) Increasing“mentalawareness”–e.g.thementorwouldgivethementeea
listofexpectationsthattheyshouldhavefortheprogressionoftheday aswellas
whatwillberequiredofthementeethroughouttheday(classroomattendance,
whentobewhere,trackspecificrules,nourishment)
3) Improvedat-eventcomfort–e.g.thementeehasprocedural/technicalquestions
butisn’tsurewhotoapproach,questionsaboutcarperformance, concernsabout
otherstudents/instructor,someoneelsetocatcharidealongwith,etc.
4) Improvedsocialatmosphere–e.g.before,duringandafterrunsessions
someoneto“hangout”with,getdinnerwith,traveltoandfromeventwith,
sharetoolswithetc.Thiscanalsoincludeprovidinginfoonwheretostay,best
waytogetthere,andotherlogisticalthingsassociatedwiththeoverallexperience.
ThepeoplewhowewouldbelookingtomentorsomeonearebothRedand
(select)Blackdriverswhoregularlyattendeventsandcanhandlebeingbothan
instructorandthetime/knowledgerequiredformentoring.
Myroleinthiswouldbecoordinatingthisprocess,ensuringthat:
1)
HCPmembershipisawareofthenewprogram–(inadditiontooffering
ourservicetoourgreen/yellowmembers?)
2) Someonelookingformentorisappropriatelymatched

3) ParticipationintheDEprepcourseintheearlymonthseachyear
4) AttendanceofmostAutocross/DEeventstofacilitatethisprocess
5) Recruitingmentors
HCPDEeventsaretypicallyheldatLimeRockPark(LRP)orWatkinsGlen
International(WGI).MembersalsofrequentotherPCARegionDEeventsat
trackssuchasMosport,NewJerseyMotorsportsPark,Mt.Tremblant,New
HampshireMotorSpeedway,Pocono,etc.Eachofthesevenueshasawebsite
showinglayout,trackmaps,directions,placestostay,etc.AllPCADEeventsare
listedonclubregistration.netbeginningattheendoftheyearforthefollowing
year.Aseventschedulesarefinalizedtheyareaddedtothewebsite.
Registeringforour,oranyPCARegionDEevent,isdoneon
clubregistration.net.IfyouhaveaPaypalaccount,itonlytakesafewseconds.
NOTE:IfyouselectaparticularDEevent,paycloseattentiontowhenregistration
opensasthemorepopulareventsfillupquickly.Someofushaveactuallyregistered

thatyouwishyouhad.IneithersituationthenewHCPPCADEMentorprogramisheretohelp.
ThenewMentorProgram’sgoalsaresimple;topairNoviceattendeeswith
